  1. Think this could mean the end for Swanson, it’s just not worked out.
The squad is starting to look unbalanced imo. 3 no 10 types, 3 wingers in a side no playing them atm, but only one holding and one all round type midfielders.

I'm willing to trust the club to be on top of this and noticed where we're short, but I agree that Swanson is likely to be a goner.
  2. This is, as they say, pish.
The Scott Allan deal in January was a fortunate bit of luck as Celtc desperately wanted Bain
As to players all loaned from Celtc? I think you will find that Maclaren, Kamberi, Hyndman, Barker, Bogdan, Agypong (sp) didn't come from Celtc.
We have a dedicated team that works on nothing but player identification.
Now if you don't mind, we have a European game to worry about later on.
Have any of our loans from Celtic even played again for them after leaving Hibs? Henderson would be the last one I think?
  3. They seem 50/50 on who to blame, seems evenly split between Celtic hating Petrie and Peter Liewell which is amusing cause they seemed 50/50 on signing him until now, not Celtic class etc.. funny in two years time when he's sold for 20 odd million.
Can't wait till Celtic sign him for 12m in 18 months and Hibs get more than Celtic offered via a sell on fee.

  4. The American move was never happening. It would’ve gone to a tribunal. We had a good negotiating point as no club wants it to go to a tribunal especially when you consider he was at saints from an early age.
Now we look to be getting £120k topped up by another £1m+ pretty good negotiation by the looks of it.
Well that's what he was threatening no?

Fwiw I have zero problem with St Mirren getting a hefty sell on. But I'd wait to see what you actually get before you start working out who you'd spend it on. Petrie specifically stated that the sell on was nowhere near 33%. I would be unsurprised if McGinn was getting a share of the fee for example and that was coming out of either the overall fee or the "33%" rather than Hibs portion. Same with the VAT to be paid. Any of these things will reduce the amount St Mirren will get from a headline 33% on the fee.
  5. Celtic are the masters of the low ball bid. They are happy to accept inflated fees for their players but p1ss about when it comes to other Scottish players. They think they are billy big balls and can get away with it.
We told them to F off when they tried it on with Carson in January this year.  Celtic fans pass it off as good business. No it is not. You want something you pay a fair price for it. That is how it works in the real world.
I hope he goes to Villa. They have a chance of being promoted back to the Premiership and even if not at the 1st attempt they play some big games in the Championship.
Teach Celtic a lesson - hopefully.
I personally think that Celtic are attempting to manipulate the Scottish market. They are literally the only ones who have decent cash to spend. So they're using that cash to put as low offers in as possible for players who look like they'll be something special. The likes of Christie and Morgan are those players. They have then set the market as "its not realistic to expect big fees in Scotland, look at the amount we paid for xxxxx". Except the transfer market has went utterly mental over the last few years. Scottish player valuations have not remotely tracked this.

Celtic could well find that they're now having to compete with clubs willing to spend more money than they will. Every successful Scottish transfer down south will increase the cost of doing business for them.

I want Hibs to spend a chunk of this cash from Mcginn in Scotland for way higher a fee than either arse cheek would spend. That would set the market in a good way for everyone.
  6. Let me guess, "The Celtic Blog" has come out with some sort of conspiracy?
I'm a Celtic fan and I find that guy to be completely cringey.
As for a move to Aston Villa, this would be a good move for McGinn.  Looking at Villa's midfielders he should easily be able to make it in to their starting XI.  He's certainly better than Glen Whelan, Henri Lansbury, et al.
Apparently Hibs are not going to sell him to Celtic for reasons. Those reasons are unspecified but Hibs wanting and getting a higher fee appears to mean we're now on the enemy list. Boy's a slavering p***k in other words.
  7. Chuck in a 250k offer for Allan.  We can just get him on a precontract in January anyway.  But Hibs might as well let lesser clubs benefit from be green pound.  Hopefully he #handsitin because he’s #Bornahibee

    Nah, 50k bid for Griffiths.

We should also make sure that it's clear that he only wants to sign for Hibs and its a bit cunty from Celtic not letting him get his dream move.

  8. Mulumbu is obvious, but I doubt if he would be willing to play another year in Scotland. Maybe he will retire if he doesn't get a big contract somewhere?

Scott Allan would be another obvious one, with using Mallan in a deeper role more often.

An interesting idea a journo put up a couple of weeks ago is Greg Docherty, who seems to have been completely binned by Gerrard. But whether the **** would be willing to loan/sell anything to Hibs is dubious.

I'm not fussed about Allan. Mallan is absolutely fine in that position. Only way I'd have wanted to get Allan in was if we'd made the group stage of the Europa League. That's a bit more distant prospect than at this time yesterday...

My thoughts about Mulumbu is that he'd be looking to play whenever he's fit. That might not be something he'd be getting offered in many places that would be a step up from Kilmarnock. If McGinn goes from Hibs we'd be offering him that level of responsibility and it would be in a squad that you don't have to wishcast too much to think could well be challenging for a trophy. I don't think he's ever won a thing in his career?

  9. Would any midfielders in Scotland be realistic targets to (potentially) fill the hole left by McGinn and Dylan?
Kamara, Campbell and Magennis are all highly rated but have a feeling their clubs will be wanting more than we will pay...
Any of those 3 would be excellent signings. Short term I'd see zero reason to not go for Mulumbu. Think Kamara is out of contract next season so he's maybe plausible.

If we end up getting a good fee for Mcginn with St Mirren scooping up a hefty sell on percentage that can only help to make other sides be more willing to sell to Hibs. We will have demonstrated that we're in a financial position to demand a high fee.
  10. I'm not complaining but can't work out why no English teams paying guys £70,000+ per week didn't pick up on these two [McLaren and Kamberi] after their performances last season?
There was interest in Kamberi, but Grasshoppers went a bit mental and asked for 2m for him when Hibs had an option for 100k. Maclaren I've no idea.
  11. People moaning at people moaning about the lack of signings in time for the European fixtures yet here we are a few days away from the start of the league campaign nevermind europe and still a lack of signings.
We've lost Mcgeouch, Maclaren, Barker and Allan from last season. We've signed Mallan and Agyepong who you'd say are replacements for Allan and Barker. We've got Slivka and Shaw already in the squad who've shown enough to get a chance imo.

But I think something that people are missing is that we're not going to know our budget till we find out how far we are going in Europe, plus how much we end up getting for Mcginn (you'd assume). Each round we get through in Europe is probably clearing 400k for us.

As of next Friday night we will have zero English clubs looking to sign players we're interested in, plus anyone they haven't ditched will suddenly be available on loan.

There's a bit of an incentive to wait a wee bit yet imo. It could mean getting much better quality than we can atm.
  12. There are rumours now that MacLaren is going back to Australia. I’d be very surprised but also delighted if we got him back.
I think I'm the only one who isn't that fussed. Really good penalty box striker but done f**k all outside the box. Add a quick striker to play beside Kamberi and put a bit of trust in Shaw at least till the January window I'd be happy with.

  13. How come the NFL, located in a country that is a cesspit of late capitalism, is able to be far more socialist than UEFA football has become?
I'm not sure that the huge revenue pocketed by the owners in American sport is particularly socialist tbh. They artificially keep players salaries down to allegedly keep a more even playing field, but in reality it's to increase profits.
  14. Hibs must be in a fantastic position to turn down £2m + a loan player (tbc).
It is admirable that they are standing firm as Celtic do there usual low ball offers sh1te. All that said I think £2m is decent for a player with one year left on his contract.
I can see Celtic walking away and signing him in Jan for nowt. Are they really going to go back with a 4th bid ?
I can fully understand St Mirren fans wanting Hibs to do a deal. I assume that if he signs on a pre contract in Jan then sell on % would be null and void going forwards ?
Back of a fag packet calculation has us with around 1m banked from the 2 rounds of Europe. Win the next one and that would rise to probably around 1.7m. We've sold near enough 14k season tickets which is well up on the same point last season. We earned around an extra 1.2m from prize money from the league compared to the season before.

"2m" is not 2m to Hibs. St Mirren get 33% and there's VAT due on the fee. We'd be getting around 1.1m for him. That's not even close to enough.

We're under zero pressure to sell. Overwhelm us or gtf.
  15. He's only got one cap for Ghana, so that would have to go to an appeal.
I think part of the reason City like punting players to Scotland on loan (also rumoured to be giving the Aussie winger Arzani to Celtic) is that for reasons unknown it seems to be easier to get a work permit to play in Scotland than it is in England. e.g. Efe not getting a permit to play for Blackburn a month or so before he signed for Hibs.
I've got literally no idea how work permits work here. Wasn't it Jason Scotland who was kb'd for one with Dundee Utd but got one for St Johnstone a few years back?
