Sorry to trouble you St Mirren fans.

Just after a bit of info on one of your youngsters we have signed until the end of the season with my team Stranraer.

    Caneron McPherson.

    Any info would be great

Not seen too much of him, but he played a couple of games in preseason that I was at, one in midfield, the other at right back. Seemed capable enough in either of those positions and could do well for you. A competitive player from what I remember of what I've seen.

  2. Delighted with the signing of Hippolyte. Always looked dangerous when we've played Falkirk, although not sure how much actual damage he's done us over the years. He comes into the squad and will vie with Smith, Reilly, Mullen, Morgan, Flynn and possibly Todd when fit, for the four attacking positions.

Always thought we needed a slightly different option up front as almost all our attacking players are smaller, nippy players. Hippolyte seems to be more of a traditional winger when played wide, but also someone who can also play centrally, so a versatile guy which is great to have on the bench, and gives him a few positions to try to dislodge someone for a starting place.

There's been a lot of talk of Jack Ross being able to get the best out of the boy, but as much as that, he might just be at an age where he can mature as a player, and a fresh start might be the kickstart he needs.

Very pleased with our squad for the rest of the season, and hopefully 3 points on Saturday will help us take the next step towards possible glory...(which is a long way off yet)

For me it's about players seeing the finishing line and what persoanl advantages winning the title will bring. Of course we will drop points so will other teams also our home record is impressive.

Seeing the finishing line and having their eyes on the prize can ramp up the pressure, or lead to them getting complacent thinking they're already nearly there. Our home record is impressive, but we've lost at home to Dumbarton in the league and to Raith and Livingston in the cups, so we're not invincible, and need to keep our focus on each individual game. That's how I see it anyway...

Spot on though ( if ) we win on Saturday and United get beat by ICT I can't see us losing 4 games with 12 left. Saying that fully expect a reaction from United this Saturday.

We can easily lose 4 games. We've already lost to Morton, Utd, Dunfermline and Dumbarton so what's to stop us losing more? We could draw 6 games for the same net result.

Win on Saturday, then look to the next game...is my personal way of looking at it...

Yea McGinn should not be mentiond I was only thinking attacking midfield player.

Personally it's a strong defending midfielder that's needed going forward is not a problem our goals for prove that but we have a habit of being pinned back  Josh in the middile might be the answer.

Mark Hill is the defensive midfielder, and will be used when required I'm sure. I agree we need a more experienced and accomplished player in that position if we go up, but he's what we have right now.

A different option up front is what we will no doubt be going for now...

  6. Lose to Utd, who also win their game in hand, and all it takes is another defeat and a draw for them to match our points total.

It's far from over, although the pressure is very much on Utd, and based on their last few games, they don't appear to have the stomach for it. All it takes is us to drop points on Saturday and Utd to win in Inverness for the pendulum to begin to swing the other way a little again. Win on Saturday, and we've ticked off another game...

If we get promoted this season I'd say yes, the last two times we got relegated it took us eight and five seasons to get back up respectively, if we do it this season (and nothing's won yet) then that'll be three so better than I'd expected.

OK we took the calculated risk of giving the McAllister money to JR last season but we still made a profit and I'd be surprised if we don't make one again this season.

In summary us overachieving - a wee bit this season (my pre-season prediction was between 3rd & 5th), Utd. underachieving I'd say so.

Any of the ITK guys got gossip on an arrival before the window shuts?

I'm not ITK, but I do think we'll get someone in before the window closes, an attacking player with more stature than  our other attacking players, while at the same time having pace and mobility. You'd assume it would have to be quite imminent as well given the window closes on Wednesday...

I never in a million years thought we'd be in this position of strength but even from week one I saw enough to know were going to be there or thereabouts. I said from the start that the league title fight would be cutthroat with Utd, ourselves and Falkirk (lol) sweating it out and being on edge week in week out.

I thought we'd win the league, based on last season February onwards and the fact we've got Jack Ross in charge. The BetFred Cup was treated more as preseason than anything else by us, and it was clear to see in most of those games that we were more interested in gaining fitness than being overly competitive.

The one thing i did worry about was our being bullied as we're not a big side, physically, but we have more than showed we can look after ourselves when teams have tried to kick us off the park, Morgan especially. Able to give it back as well, which has been pleasing.

He looks not bad attacking wise but defensively he’s absolutely hopeless. Still young and has loads of room to improve, if we get 250k for him we should snatch it up.

Also seen on the COYB page that Dunnes away training with Blackburn, anyone know any better?

£200k according to Paul Joyce of the Times who is spot on with Liverpool news. I assume you'll have a sell on clause in there, as seems standard with all these deals nowadays.

Well, probably quite a lot of changes, but most teams seem to be having a fairly big playing staff turnover most summers now, and we've done a huge amount of work in the transfer market since Jack has been here (not all of it successfully, of course, but that's not criticism.)

Long way to go yet, though. No way are we home and dry just yet.

I do, of course, believe that if the players you've outlined above happened to help us canter to the title here, then they should get their chance in the top flight, but no doubt we'd need to add quality. Saturday lunchtime will be a good indicator of the gap we would potentially need to make up. We'll see.

We'd need some additions, mainly down the spine, but Smith especially is one who I think can do very well in the Prem. Reilly also didn't get too much of a shot with Hearts - only time he started more than 2 games in a row he got 3 in 5 starts. Strikers thrive on confidence, and if he keeps scoring the way he is, and getting a regular start, we could see a different player if we and he get up a league again.

Some upgrades needed, and hopefully Jack will be ruthless when needed, but this team has shown tremendous spirit this season on top of everything else, and he'll want to have that same character in the team, whoever is there and wherever we end up.

Sorry lads forgot we aren't aloud to discuss the possibility of strengthening the starting 11 just because we are top of the league :unsure2:

I've stated several times that players signed should be players who want to play in the first eleven rather than come as backup. Flynn is in that bracket, as is Mullen. Not sure Hill is, but as a loan who will be costing us next to nothing, I'm fine with that. Would be delighted if he secured a first team slot as it would mean he's doing the business.

Sounds similar to McShane so seems like he has been brought in as back up and to challenge for his spot.

Weak point is maybe a bit strong but it's the position where we need some backup and there is potential to win a place in the starting 11. McGinn and Morgan are first name on the team sheet, Flynn I'm assuming is backup/challenge for Maggennis.

You think McShane is a ball winning midfielder...good defensively? McShane is a creative midfielder who is better in the opposition half in my opinion, which is backed up by his 11 assists this season. A ball winning midfielder is what we've been missing at times, so I'd expect Hill to come in at certain points in games, when we need more dig in midfield.

Flynn should provide some more creativity if and when McShane is rested/dropped admittedly, but it would be hasty to change a winning team for the sake of it at the moment. These signings serve to give us a stronger bench, filled with players who believe they should be starting and who will go all out to prove it to the manager, which is what we need.

I don't really get why so many people think McShane should, or will, be dropped for a guy who we haven't actually seen play yet. McShane has been really good this season. He's got more assists than anyone else in the team and is a real creative force in our midfield. He's also one of Ross' guys and hasn't let him down. Flynn, or Magennis for that matter, are going to have to earn McShane's spot, because right now he's deservedly ahead of both as a central midfielder.

    Spot on.
