  1. I'd like to see us make use of one set piece next season. Just one. Our corners/long throws were horrendous for the talent we had in the squad.

I think the long throws are sometimes harder to deal with than corners - albeit our corners were horrific 90% of the time!

  2. Funnily enough, I had no idea where the Linton rumours had started from. Said it a couple of days back and still don't know where if came from. I thought he was as settled as anyone with us and why would he want to move. Great to have him signed up. Would be great to start making more effective use of his long throws next season!

    Edit:

Haha. Damn, Silverton beat me to it. But aye!

  3. to be fair....I thought Ewings started last season well, and had cut out some of the errors....he then got injured, and Grindlay got his place, and after that, both were in and out the team

I suspect most keepers with most teams in this league have seen good and bad from their keepers.

Most of the goals we lost were not down to howlers from either Ewings or Grindlay.....they were down to the style of football we play....we play a very open and expansive game....that leaves gaps, and as a result, we will lose goals

I wouldn't be totally unhappy if we re-signed both and used the money for a quality striker or new RB

I have been saying this all along! Jamie started every game up until he got injured in the warm up vs Morton in January. I don't remember many people having that much of a problem before that. I do think he struggled badly afterwards but the manager made a bit of a mess of things in switching between the keepers etc... It is clear to anyone that Murray sees Jamie as our no 1 over Grindlay when you see the appearances last season.

I had heard rumours that Grindlay will be offered a 2nd/3rd choice role and that Jamie would be offered the same. I think it is needless to have 3 goalkeepers, but we will have to wait and see:

    a. Whether he signs Stephen up for next season.

    b. Whether he brings in a new keeper.

  4. I wasn't under the impression that Linton wasn't happy with us. I think and hope that he is one of the next players to sign on in the next few days. He makes a difference to the team. Unless he was to be going Full time (can't see that happening) then surely we will be his best option?

  5. Why are we suggesting Murray might be giving Smith a chance to prove his fitness? Because he was a cracking left-back (utility player) who, for reasons we may not be privy to, lost his fitness. Scott Smith has something to prove and perhaps Murray is giving his that chance.

Have to say I agree with that. Scott Smith isn't a bad player because his fitness went to hell. He is still really young and obviously Murray reckons he deserves another chance. I think it is fair or him to say, 'if you get your fitness back to what is was (or thereabouts) then you can have a contract'... He made a mistake and struggled to recover throughout the season. Seems he has one last chance now. I would still like Scott Smith as part of our squad if he is fit.

  6. 'That's tea time ref' has been one of my favourite things to hear at games over the years. Always find myself saying it when I'm playing a tense game of FIFA or Football Manager.

    Very sad news indeed, R.I.P.

Sad news! Most folk knew him and he was a good guy. Just loved the sons and was a true old school football fan. Always made me laugh hearing him shout tea time ref. Especially after one of my mates made an effort in a midweek game in shouting 'bed time ref'... got quite a few laughs and didn't have the same effect. Hope one day I can have supported the sons as long as he did.

  7. Delighted to have some signing news to talk about. It is great that we are holding on to the younger guys and I hope young Ally signs up in the coming days also as he looks like he could be a great wee player.

Gils signing speaks for itself really. He has really settled at Dumbarton having had a bit of a stop start career beforehand (due to injuries and what not). He contributes a lot to the team and when he is playing well, the team play so much better. He has his off days - but who doesn't??

I am very happy to see Prunty sign up. He offers a lot In terms of experience around the whole dressing room etc. But I also think that he is always good for 5/10 goals a season. Something which is very valuable. Especially when your top scorer is only scoring 5 or so more than that. He also has to keep up his overhead kick record!

  8. Stephen Grindlay has definitely been offered a one year deal but only as 2nd/3rd choice keeper. With a potential testimonial he has a decision to make.

This is what I was told today as well. Surely to god he won't keep both Ewings and Grindlay though??

I was also told he would be bringing in someone else who he'd want to be the first choice. We don't need three keepers'. Although I doubt we would get the 2 we have now to sign new deals if Murray has plans to bring in a third (first choice) keeper.

  9. Agree with Jordo, a lot of part time players will fancy playing for us next year and I've no doubt Murray will be looking at the best talent below us but at the same time waiting to see what the Premiership teams release like he did with Mitch Megginson.

Murray summed it up well a couple of months back when he said that any part time player who wants to stay PT because of work or whatever; will want to come to Dumbarton. That coupled with working under Ian will be very attractive. The other kind of player we may attract are the ones looking to step down from Full time.

    Exciting times for us :)

  10. Don't think anyone can emphasise enough just how much of a difference this will make to the players who will sign up in the coming days. Players want to work with Murray and players from other teams will also want to be a part of Dumbarton and Ian Murray's team for next season.

It is a great advantage having the extra year on his contract. I just wonder whether any players will be signed on deals which are longer than just 12 months.

  11. Had Kane not came in, Garry is our next striker?? So, next season he will be a starter up front (obviously depending on who we sign). I rate him very highly, he reminds me of Prunty a bit in his work rate and effort. He offers a lot to the club and given a consistent run in the team I think he will score plenty of goals too.

Would be gutted if he left - which he won't! ;)

  12. Ex trialist Craig Sutherland (remember him? went to Blackpool) has just signed for Queens Park. Would like to see us make a move for him in the summer.

Decent wee player! Bit of pace and knew how to finish as well. Went and saw Blackpool playing shortly after he signed with them and remember being amazed that we had him on trial beforehand! Didn't look out of place in the championship (English). Unless things have gone tragically wrong then I reckon he could definitely do a job in our championship.

  13. I know this is a bit out of the blue but does any sons fan remember the game against Manchester Utd in 1991? It was a bit before i was born but all i can find was the goalscorers for United that day (Mark Robins x2,Mark Hughes x2 and Brian McClair) can anyone else give me more info about the line ups? Is it true that Schmeichel made his début that day?

Reason I ask is that I overhead a few guys at the game yesterday one was a regular and the other one I hadn't seen before, the regular said something about it being Schmeiches first game for them just wondered if it was true, cracking bit of trivia if it is!

I'm pretty sure that is correct! I was only born in 91 but my dad's told me stories quite a few times of how he through the ball 3/4 of the length of the pitch (think it was also a goal assist). Think it might have been a testimonial match...

  14. Noticed that today Ross Forbes signed for Dunfermline. He is definitely a player I'd have welcomed back into our squad. Even with the depth we have.

Anyway, I'm pretty buzzing since Kano has signed on til the end of the season! Have to agree that he has brought out the best in Nish as well. Roll on tomorrow :)

  15. I see it doesn't mention whether it's a loan or a transfer. Presumably it's a loan until the end of the current season when his Dumbarton contract expires.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Murray wanted to get Joe Coleman and Owen out on loan for some game time. I get the feeling Ronald may break the trend of players going out on loan never to return to the club. Think Murray might still see him as 'one for the future'. Have to agree though, a bit baffling.
