Yeah Paul is very quick. What I meant was in an attacking sense. Mitch seems to have some pace but I would like a winger to come in (preferably left seeing as we have Mcginn on the right) who is quick.

Not slow but not quick either. If that makes sense.
Agreed! They aren't slow players and would match most defenders but won't clearly outpace them in the way some like Del Carcary would. Haven't had a player with that pace since he left. Would love to see someone like that come in.

I'd quite like to see a striker with a presence come in. After seeing how effective it was having someone like Lister last year I think it would be useful. I would also like to see a big commanding centre back come in. Wouldn't mind if both were loan signings to be honest.

What's the line up like?

Won't manage to make it through tomorrow unfortunately (gigging).
Will be interesting to see if we feature many (if any) other trialists. I still expect we will make a couple of loan signings. But obviously we won't know until nearer the start of the season...

What we need is a chissy type who can play anywhere what ever happened to ally graham or strling smith?
Pretty sure Ally Graham was at the Bankies last season! If he is still there we might get a look at him when we play them in a few weeks.

Lamont had one of the best deliveries I have seen in a sons player in years! He did lack elsewhere in his game - tracking back etc. But his delivery was spot on 90% of the time. Better delivery than Gilhaney or McDougall. I reckon he still has a lot of development to go through as a player and still has a chance at 2nd/1st division level.

I thought Lamont looked far better when we were in the 2nd and lost his way last season. If anything Lamont got worse, where Creaney improved.

I thought he struggled in the second and wouldn't have been good enough for a 3rd division team. Having said that, he vastly improved with us. Always the weak link in our squad though. Should find a mid-table 2nd division side.

Not really sure what to take from Ewings signing. Would suggest that the aforementioned theory of Lithgow running out of time was rubbish - as they waited for Jamie.
I would say we have 2 fairly decent keepers now. Both have their own qualities both positive and negative. I had kinda hoped we would maybe get a slightly better goalkeeper (possibly on loan) but having two signed up would suggest Murray is happy with what we had and now have for next season.

Agree with you there, Snudge. Smith will move into central defence, Linton will get the LB position.
Which can only mean that James Creaney, if he's still with us, will be wrapped up in bubble wrap and kept away from football matches.
Clouds and silver linings, eh?
Edited for primary school spelling
Well that could work, but I would hope that we bring in at least 1 centre back (preferably 2) who would be more than capable of first team places. I'm sure Murray has been considering alternatives to Lithgow (as he took so long to sign) and hopefully he has someone lined up.
As for James Crainey - couldn't be more glad he is nowhere near our squad. Seemed like a great guy, but was well out of his depth in the 2nd division in my opinion.

I feel that playing alongside someone like Graham or Murray he could really come on. He is still young after all. I hope he gets his chance in pre season and I reckon he will or his contract would probably have been mutually terminated at the end of the season.
Have to agree to an extent. McNiff may not be capable of playing in the first division but as mentioned by others, he could at the very least be a useful squad player. At the end of the day, James Creaney made how many games last season? If he was worthy of so many appearances then I think Martin deserves a chance!
I think the criticism of our defence is understandable but personally think we are one good defender away from having a very decent 1st division defence.

Haha. Didn't think we would get McGinn back at all! Delighted that he has signed up. Could have signed for any 1st division team and in my opinion could also do a job in the spl!!
The players must really have enjoyed playing under Murray to sign up. Especially the likes of McGinn and Smith!
Squad is shaping up nicely

Can only agree with the others! I am sure Murray will make an offer and the fact that he has been with us before can only help the offer.St Mirren have released Paul McGinn.
That being said, he is far too good for most (if not all) of the first division clubs in my opinion.
What about Andy Geggan now that Dunfermline went down haha!?

Quite a lot of Morton fans wanted Turner.
Morton offered Turner a contract.
Turner rejected that contract.
Turner signed a 2 year deal with Dumbarton.
I believe he just got a job as a personal trainer and it has been mentioned that the combination of that and part time with us would probably amount to more than only playing full time with Morton.
Think he would have been a great signing for any first division team so absolutely delighted to have him in the squad!

Like Turner I reckon Geggan would be a major scoop for Dumbarton! This the Boy who suffered the Knee injury a couple of years ago ? Or am I thinking of Michael Devlin?
Nah, you are correct. Nicky signed for Motherwell and spent basically his first season out with quite a bad injury. Was such a great player and had so much potential when first with us. But as mentioned, he is still very young and could still be a good first division player.

St Mirren fans saying McGinn is out of contract and no word on whether he's being offered a new deal. Am I just being greedy now?
Haha. Greedy perhaps, but if we didn't have the hunger we wouldn't get anywhere. I do think McGinn was in a different league to the majority (if not all) of our squad.
Would imagine he would be able to easily do a job at St Mirren though.

For any Morton fans wishing Chris Turner to sign for them. No such luck! Signed a 2 year deal with the sons

Great news! Biggest signing so far I'd say... and a 2 year contract as well!

Great news that Garry has singed on!

Could have been a lot more difficult! Will be good to see all three 'returning players'.
