If everyone did it the club would have in the region of two million pounds, which it could presumably use to improve the product and thus the number of walk-up customers.

For that price you could go to about 65 games at current walk-up prices. That would mean attending nearly every home match for four years. The club would be mad not to try to lock that in early. They should be offering 50 year season tickets.

Not sure they would attract sufficient walk up’s to cover for the shortfall.

Let’s say we have what 900 season ticket holders who sign up yearly. If they all go 5 yearly, we get a shit load of extra money in year 1.

We throw a load of money at the team, gain promotion to the promised land. Attract some new fans and have a couple of years in the Premier League before doing a Livvy and coming back down.

We then find ourselves back the championship, probably with a significantly higher wage bill than we have now and still have 2 years with no season ticket money coming in and crowds that are in decline because those new fans we attracted during the good years don’t hang around.

It’s all hypothetical but we definitely wouldn’t be the first club to try to throw money at it and fail…..

Maybe the 5 year tickets are capped at so many per year to ensure a more steady income stream over time.

  2. Not sure how I feel about a 5 year ticket.

Great that the club get the cash now and lock that supporter in for 5 years but if everyone does it, surely they lose out on future income. Seems a lot like a payday loan.

Getting money upfront for future ticket sales rings a bell, don’t remember it ending well for another club……

Andy Weir, also popped up in an episode of Still Game (spotty boy on the cinema desk). Occasionally credited as James on IMDB. Got his break in Braveheart as Young Hamish.

Last I heard he was out in US doing stuff. Nice fella.

I believe Andy Weir landed a job as some kinda marketing manager with one of the large whisky producers looking after North America.

Nope, Dougie Ramsay went in nets for the penalty.

Mark McGeown took the player down and was red carded, Dougie Ramsay went in nets and conceded the penalty, they brought the other keeper on after that. Lost the game 2-0. Craig Brown was in the hospitality. Craig Conway was probably the best player in what was a very poor game.

According to the match report, Phillips came on a minute before Dargo scored, so I think you may be wrong.

McCall's hit rate was better than the current recruitment. I dont think that is rose tinted. A lot of that is down to the market. Ironically, signing non-league jobbers from down south, isn't even a cheap option.

It is considered sensible from a business model. Sign them on frees, a good season up here and sell them on. Make a bit of money through 'player trading'. I get the principle and maybe if 1 in every 8 is like Dipo it works?

Edit - As an aside I'd take David Ferguson at right back over Nick fucking McAllister! That's for sure.

I think the biggest issue we’ve had since McCall left is the turnover in the squads. It’s back to the old days of a full rebuild every year.

He did well to keep a quality core together so only needed to add a couple.

After Hopkin/Duffy, Bullen needed to pretty much do a full rebuild last season. We then needed to do another in the summer.

Its unrealistic to expect to be able to do this and everyone work out.

We’ve obviously had a nightmare with some of the newbies coming in on 2 year deals and flopping.

This is somewhat rose-tinted. McCall also tried to redeem quite a few people who ended up being done jobbers.

We definitely look at the McCall signings with rose-tinted glasses now.

For every Laurence Shankland there is a Kris Doolan. For every Michael Rose, there is a Sam Roscoe and for every Liam Smith there’s a David Ferguson.

Then we have guys like McKenna & Nesbit who went on to have very good careers but were definitely in the miss rather than the hit column at Ayr.
