  1. I also wonder about the context. It’s absolutely grim watching the matches on a stream anyway. The same game would be a bit different if viewed live instead of a frequently buffering single camera view which does nothing but follow the ball. It has been rotten but many of the one goal defeats have been pretty close. We have lacked goal threat big time.
  2. I’m certain some of the dross in our flatlining bottom league days were worse than this. The Jim George de facto juniors, the Jim Fallon side that dropped like a stone down a well and McCabe’s folly were certainly worse than this. This side’s not great but I don’t think it’s the worst. Most of the defeats have been by a single goal. I’m just thinking Moonster that a couple of the examples I’ve quoted are before your time.
  3. Ross Forbes may well be done but his perfect corner was the reason for our equaliser. What a goal by Wilson to win it. Football is indeed a funny old game.
  4. To be fair if the new lot achieve what Alex Jackson, Martin Foy and Robert Robertson did, I would have no complaints.
  5. To be fair it’s not even one working day after the announcement as today is bank holiday. Might they be waiting for the outcome of tomorrow night’s game to engage with the media/ fans?
  6. Surely the points wouldn't be awarded to Clyde when it was their player who had Covid? Wrong signal doesn't begin to cover that.
  7. There is certainly no guarantee we'd get a new manager bounce but in the last chance saloon surely it would be worth a try?
  8. I am generally supportive of an incumbent manager as there is statistical proof that it is very rarely a quick fix to sack someone and bring in someone else https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/sacking-managers-pointless-stats-slaven-bilic-west-ham-premier-league-a8044586.html However, it's clear that things aren't working big time and frankly we don't have anything else we can do. The end of the season looks as if it will be too late so the time to act is now. We only have to look back at our last play-off situation and sticking with a management team whose time was up, to see what will likely happen. If Duffy's contract is up at the end of the season then he should go now. His presence isn't going to save us but his way-going might. Here's the crucial thing though - who would/could we bring in? It'll most likely be someone who has failed elsewhere. When Arbroath went for Dick Campbell for instance, he had been sacked by Forfar. In fact he was sacked by every team he's managed except Brechin (whom he left to manage Thistle) and Cowdenbeath (Whom he left to go to Brechin). If we were to sack Duffy and appoint someone temporary until the imminent end of the season - who would you go for?
  9. I would agree with that. Amazing to think that on the other hand, Nisbet is a first pick, has played for Scotland and Hibs have apparently knocked back £3 million for him.
  10. Yes and John Hosie on the tannoy "Right you boys off the park!" 61 not out.
  11. Just reflecting and comparing that 7 goals in one game to 9 in 17.........

  13. On Wednesday it'll be fifty years since I attended my first game at Boghead. It was a 7-0 victory against Stirling Albion and remains the only time I have ever seen the Sons win by a seven goal margin. My second game was a week later and the last of 70-71 season , a 4-1 victory against Queens Park. Before that, the only 2 Sons games I had attended were the two League Cup semi final matches against Celtic in October 1970 at Hampden. My first full season supporting Sons was the following 71-72 season when we gained promotion to the top league for the first time in 50 years. My parents bought me a season ticket and I attended every home game. Next year it'll be 50 years on from that. Phew!
  14. I couldn't watch the game last night. This isn't any indication of my confidence, just availability - I had some work to do and had the radio on in the background. Derek Ferguson's updates were, I think spot on and he highlighted something thus: "Dumbarton have struggled to score many goals and watching this it's easy to see why. Carswell and Wedderburn want to take another touch and too much time instead of just looking for the pass". He said this at 1-0. I was reminded of a stat I heard this week that 75% of all goals from open play are scored within 10 seconds of gaining possession. Amazing what a decent result can do for confidence. Let's hope it carries forward to Saturday.
  15. To be fair, you're too young to have seen Willie Wigham throw the ball into his own net on 14th April 1973 at Boghead in a 1-1 draw with Ayr United.
  16. Honestly, I wonder if there is a more annoying duo on sports radio than John Collins and Craig Levein. Even if what Collins was saying wasn't utter shite ("You could see 2 or 3,000 Rangers/Celtic fans clicking through the turnstiles at Colts away games") his nasal whine actually makes me want to launch the radio out the nearest window. Levein, an unmitigated disaster in his last three football jobs, sounds like one of those pontificating teachers that you hated at school. All that's missing sometimes is "If you know what's good for you laddie!" Good on the dissenting voices of Jim MacInally and Richie Foster who at least provided some light and shade to counter the nonsense spouted by the gruesome twosome.
  17. I see Duthie was banned for two years for testing positive for cannabis. The ban expired yesterday.
  18. What happened with McGrath at East Kilbride?
  19. Whilst none of the names may be inspiring, you can't fault Sam Ramsbottom for trying. There's a few decent saves below but not a lot of catching going on. It's a funny old game though as Kevin Nisbet is reputed to have said when he was called into the Scotland squad today.
  20. Or a central defensive partnership of 1) Cushley and Bolton 2) Ruddy and Bolton or 3) Cushley and Ruddy Read that and thank goodness this was in the days before 3 or 5 at the back. Can you imagine the three of them in the one side? *shudder*
  21. I was sad to hear of the passing of the captain of our 71-72 Championship winning side, Jack Bolton. A big centre half of the old school. He was 79.
