  1. For a BIG club like Falkirk finishing above the likes of QOS and Morton shouldn't be viewed as an achievement but a formality, so nothing to really seeth about for me. I admire your faith in thinking that Hartley will be your Saviour. He's certainly made a great improvement in his time in charge, you managed to move up the table and finish above Dumbarton.
  2. A perfect example of the sneaky cnut he is. A typical give it out but can't take it type of player. Well placed with the worst full time team in the Championship 2017-2018.
  3. Quite agree, Dobbie prefers the ball to his feet, as did Stirling when he was here, as did Thomas, it didn't stop the hoofball mentality we employed ad-nauseum. To be fair I suppose we don't, or didn't, have players in defence and central midfield calm enough with the ball at their feet to play silky football out from the back.
  4. Either you were very bright for your age or Muir had to repeat a year. (I don't think either of these are the correct reason btw, SD's statistics are more likely to be correct.)
  5. Ayr United are apparently interested in signing Jordan Marshall. Considering one of the reasons he turned down a new deal with Queens was rumoured to be the travelling involved from NE England, it would be strange if he signed for a club even further away. I would hope that we could have bettered any deal offered by Ayr United if it came down to cash. Also Tan Man is considering a move over the water to Linfield in NornIreland.
  6. Martin showed in the recent win up at Morton that he is a more than competent keeper, and that was pre-op on his hand injury. If he can steer clear of other injuries I think we will see more evidence of the man who came highly regarded from Dumbarton.
  7. I would hope, despite recent events, that Jim Thomson's service and achievements during his playing career with Queens isn't going to be air-brushed from the history books. It would be a bit petty if every reference to him was removed.
  8. Just drove up Terregles St. past Palmerston and noticed all the murals on the outside walls have been removed. I was wondering when this happened and what the reason was.
  9. Pure speculation and guesswork I would imagine (plus a bit of whooshing).
  10. Ex-International defender as Manager, hasn't signed a half decent right back during his tenure, can't coach his defence to defend and doesn't play a system to get the best out of the best player in the Championship. Otherwise he's doing fine.
  11. With St. Mirren having tied up the title they might let standards slip a little so Falkirk have a chance of points there. I expect ICT to take the majority of points from their remaining games and even catching Morton may be outwith our reach. It would be good though if Falkirk did struggle in their remaining fixtures and we stayed above them to avoid being labelled the worst full time team in the division. It would be nice to finish off our home fixtures next week with a positive performance and hopefully a rare home win, and we certainly don't want to slip to an embarrassing defeat up at Brechin.
  12. I think Leighfield is adequate enough as a backup keeper but because of Martin's injury problems he has probably featured more than he should. I don't think he has cost us any more goals than the keeper he is standing in for or our regular keeper last season. The Montrose keeper, although at a lower level, has probably had more game time to gain experience than Leighfield, also he is their 1st choice keeper not backup. Does Leighfield need any more protection by his defence than Martin does, I haven't seen much evidence of this, and if he does they are certainly not doing it very well at it.
  13. How does me saying that Leighfield has made some great saves equate to other keepers not being good enough to make such saves, that's a completely hytpothetical assumption. He has prevented goals with such saves so has obviously kept the score down. It's not really a case of the good saves cancelling out the goals conceded, some his fault, but those saves preventing even more being conceded.
  14. I don't understand the negativity towards Leighfield by some fans. He's an adequate enough keeper for this level of football. Yes he's made mistakes, so has Martin and so did Robinson when he was here. Leighfield has actually pulled off a few remarkable saves in the last three or four games which prevented even more goals against us. Hypothetical I know, but would we be any points better off if Robinson was still with us? The problem is what's playing in front of him.
  15. If the team is playing decent football with a bit of urgency and desire, and the coaching staff are using the squad to the best of their ability and with a bit of positivity I don't really think the fans care who is on the Board. The main reason for fans drifting away is the product on the park, simple as that I think. Opposition teams don't need to work too hard to put us under pressure, they often look more determined, fitter and organised than us and do the basics better. Simple things like throw-ins seem to cause us problems. I think we gave away possession at every one we had in the first half last night and until Rooney came on later on there was no variation in their delivery. It's probably an accumulation of a lot of little things that make the overall product hard to watch at times. The Manager needs to send the players out with a positive attitude in every game because I think the negativity in our play stems from him. No fan realistically expects us to win every game but they should be entitled to expect the team to go into every game with the attitude that we will.
  16. If crowds were the defining factor of teams reaching the play-offs then Livingston shouldn't be where they are now. Yes, we probably have a smaller playing budget than anyone apart from Brechin, but there is more to getting there than budget. Using what talent you have to the best of their ability, playing players in positions and formation that gets the best from them, realising which players are not up to scratch instead of persisting with them hoping they somehow come good, coaching the players at your disposal to do the basic things correctly and building up a bit of confidence in the squad to compete with the so-called big clubs in the division. Also realising that the strengths of you best players is playing actual football rather than what is increasingly being accepted as hoofball. Can our Manager claim that he tries to do all of the above.
  17. The difference in their goals scored per minutes played ratio for Queens doesn't exactly back up that statement.
  18. If Dykes goes to Hearts I think we should warn his new team-mates or management not to offer him accommodation.
  19. Re the discussion about Jason Kerr, I think the reason a lot of fans took to him was that he contributed a couple of goals early in his loan spell when all we really had was Dobbie and Lyle doing the business. I felt he was solid enough at the back and with the exuberance of youth wasn't afraid to put his head in where it hurt.
  20. Yes, it's a pity that the likes of Andy Stirling didn't seem to get the opportunity to benefit from this practise.
  21. Thinking back at our pleasing win last time out at Dunfermline, I'm sure four of the five goals came from good passing play on the deck, slick, forward passing, getting the ball to Stirling and especially Dobbie to take players on. Granted Dobbie was on a completely different level that day, and Pars were poor. IIRC correctly only the build up to the penalty came from Dykes winning a high ball punted forward. If my memory is correct that proves we have 80% scoring success rate when we play passing football,(in that game at least)
  22. Both our goals on Saturday resulted from good passing play ON THE DECK. Considering the criticism about the surface, even from our coaching staff I believe, I am another punter baffled by the players (coaching staffs) continued use of high balls punted forward and invariably lost. I think the problem is we don't have technically competent players confident enough to take possession and play out from the defence. Even if there is an issue with balls bobbling when played on the ground it's surely easier to get it under control then than waiting for it to bounce when plummeting from the sky.
  23. I wasn't there so can't comment but maybe those that did attend think the BoD aren't doing such a bad or questionable job as some supporters think they are under the present financial circumstances. Maybe that's why there is no gossip. Are you looking for any type of gossip, good or bad, from the AGM or just stuff where BoD and Management are being grilled. IIRC the only topic from last year's AGM that received wide coverage was the issue of the Fans Rep on the Board, other than that I don't think we got much other gossip from that one either, so why should this one be different.
  24. Only those who still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.
  25. I see in today's papers that ex Queens striker Derek Holmes has taken over as Manager of Junior outfit Wishaw. The highlight of Homers time at Queens was probably scoring the "perfect" hat-trick against Terry Butcher's Inverness Cale Thistle side on their own ground. ICT had been struggling a bit that season but IIRC went on an unbeaten run after that defeat and got promoted as Champions.
