  1. I don't think anyone's actually saying they would especially want him back at Queens now or even if we showed any interest in getting him back, but he is about the level of player we can target unless more cash becomes available. We will have to agree on differing views on his contribution the last time he was here, I thought he was quite steady after a shaky start, I wouldn't say he deserved POY awards though.
  2. I don't think you fully appreciate our current standing in this division in football and financial terms.Employing jobbing footballers is about the standard we are at. Take Dobbie and probably goalkeeper Martin out of the equation and every other senior player on the books at present could be described as jobbing footballers. IMO Kyle Hutton didn't do too badly when he got fit and had a run in the team, I wouldn't have been too upset if he had been kept on. but that's probably more a reflection of our other midfield options at the time. Having said that I wouldn't necessarily want him back now, unless he replaced Rankin.
  3. If Hutton's in the right frame of mind he'll do a job for Sons. Split opinion amongst our support (as you probably gather) but he certainly wasn't the worst midfielder we had during his time here. As somebody said earlier he did get player of the year nominations/award so he must have done ok is some people's eyes.
  4. Definitely. If we are running with a small squad, as looks to be the case, then the type of player the Manager brings in is even more crucial. We can't afford to carry any passengers or poor disciplined players.
  5. Looks like brass handles and silver letter plate on that door. Dearie me, mix and match door furniture.
  6. TBF I think most of Naysmith's doubters are not basing their opinions on just two games this season but carrying it over from last season. I agree that criticism of the new recruits after just two games is a bit premature and unfair. With a new keeper and two new defenders installed we have conceded one goal, from a penalty, in regulation time over those two games, and restricted the opposition to very few openings. Even taking into account the level of opposition we faced, that's not too bad a start. Time will tell if they are good enough when we face higher ranked opposition though.
  7. When my touchscreen phone suddenly scrolls slightly just as I am about to select a function and I end up on the wrong page. Also, at supermarkets when people are returning trolleys to the trolley park, they push the trolley and let go from about ten yards away and it stops short but they just leave it sticking out into the road. Also, in public toilets, supermarket toilets, etc when there are about 6 urinals, 4 or 5 washbasins but only 1 electric handdrier. Where's the logic in that.
  8. Why should it be the Chairman's responsibility alone to put cash into the club, he is not like an owner of the Club who pumps in money to a pet project when needed. It is his responsibility (and the BOD as a group) to oversee the running and finances of the Club and that should include finding sources of income when needed. Unfortunately in these times there are very few people or businesses around who have cash to spare and are willing to invest in or gift it to a football club without some guarantee of return. If the income is not there then expenditure has to be adjusted to suit. We just have to accept that there is not a magic money pit that we can go to when things are not going as well as some would like.
  9. Probably more of the July to January version I would say. Given that we've only played competitive games against Stenhousemuir and East Kilbride and he hasn't particularly stood out gives an indication of his performances. Maybe a bit harsh as the team as a whole have not performed particularly well and he's not been the worst. Playing on the left he was taking men on and cutting inside where I would have liked to have seen him taking a chance on goal himself but he either played it out wide to the other wing or tried to set other players up. It might be just my imagination but he looks a bit chubbier than I recall at Sons. It's still early days and there are two or three new players to bed in, hopefully by the time the league campaign starts he and the others will be more settled. We are still a bit short in numbers and on showings so far I doubt if he would be an automatic pick if there were alternatives. Jury still out.
  10. Won't really know until we play against better teams, never been really tested yet. Looked decent against Annan (friendly) and Stenny which is all I've seen of him. Hopefully won't have too much of a problem tonight V East Kilbride so Saturday away to Hamilton should give a better indication.
  11. Looks like Livingston won a watch getting Alexander in, he could be a big player for you this season. Always rated him.
  12. I think the first league game of last season away to Dundee Utd is a good example of why he frustrates a lot of fans. First half of the game he looked interested, got stuck in, took men on, etc. The whole team were playing well mind you. Second half he almost completely disappeared, looked as if he had no energy, didn't look interested. To be fair, Dundee Utd stepped up their game quite a bit and our team as a whole were being tested, but as a relative young lad Dykes just looked to fade right out if it. As you say, there was some off-field issues going on but hopefully that has settled down and he can concentrate on scoring on the park now.
  13. The problem with Lyndon Dykes for me is not so much his ability but his attitude. He gives the impression that he sometimes wants to do just enough rather than push himself to do a bit more, not so much lazy as lethargic. I will say however in what I have seen of him so far this season, at Annan and Stenhousemuir, I thought I noticed a more determined attitude, maybe a desire to get more involved and take some responsibility. Early days as far as this season goes but hopefully he will continue to show improvement as running a with a small squad we can't really afford anyone not giving their full commitment.
  14. Look Lee, your time would be better spent trying to find a new club rather than trolling Internet forums.
  15. Anyone who thinks Spiers is a top football expert needs to take a look at themselves. He's the "Besty" of football journalism. On another note: It appears that McFadden is still in with a (slim) chance of a contract as Manager Naysmith says in one of today's papers that he is still training with us but won't be rushed on his fight for fitness in time to feature in Betfred Cup games or possibly even early Championship games. (paraphrasing the article)
  16. Of the two I would have kept Dowie. Thought he was made a bit of a scapegoat at the end of last season. You can't fault Higgins' attitude to the club tho.
  17. I thought he had signed a centre back and right back/centre back, and we still have Brownlie, let's at least wait to see if they are as good or better than Higgins and Dowie before judging them.
  18. They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Good one though. Time will tell if there is any improvement, I think there will be a noticeable difference.
  19. ^^^ Did that one last week. Today's PTTGOYN: Dual flush button toilets. I always seem to push the short flush button when a long flush is called for. (TBH 2 or 3 long flushes are sometimes necessary). Also, slow filling toilet cisterns .
  20. All this gossip and speculation about what's going on behind the scenes at Palmerston must be a godsend for all the auld sweetie wives.
  21. I'm aware it's still pure speculation regarding McShane's return but the very thought of him and Rankin in the middle of our midfield sends a shiver down my spine, and not in a good feeling sort of way. Hopefully he will have gained some valuable experience in his time with The Staggies.
  22. Dom Thomas signing for Kilmarnock apparently so no need to fret which wing he will be playing on for us.
  23. I think it's more to do with cutting inside and getting shots at goal with your stronger foot. Crossing from the right with your left foot (or vice versa) tends to give inswinging deliveries which I would say are more difficult to defend against.
  24. I've just purchased a job lot of Linfield/Celtic scarfs for this coming Friday's game from a bloke in the pub. I think they should be a good seller, I might even order some more. I can see a healthy profit being made.
