  1. Joel may have got his Turkey prediction a bit off but he knows a goalie when he sees one. Looking forward to watching Yann Sommer now. Sexy b*****d too.
  2. Latrell and Turbo (poor tackle for the try aside) are murdering them. I do think that Feldt penalty was a game changer though.
  3. Clarke has come out and said he's fine so that's somewhat reassuring. At the time though it did not look good, there are examples of athletes retiring after less serious looking incidents. My point was largely that football is way behind other sports in dealing with concussion, mainly because it's much less common than other sports. Well done for bringing him straight off.
  4. 1-0 is fairly uninspiring when playing against a mediocre team who had 10 men for the majority of the game. We created plenty of chances though despite rarely getting beyond second gear. I'm now at the stage where I don't think there's much between most of the possible options in just about every position. I'd find it extremely difficult to pick our best XI and that's before even taking the opposition into account. I trust Clarke to get it right though and whoever he selects I'll be happy with. The only thing I really took from this evening was the fact that Gilmour really does look worth the hype. I haven't seen much of him so far but in 20 minutes he did enough to convince me that he improves us immensely, regardless of the opposition. He moves the ball on so much quicker than most of our players and it's nearly always progressive. That was a nasty knock he took so I really hope he's all right. In other sports he could well be made to sit out for the next two games after a fall like that. Fortunately for Scotland, football has reacted very slowly to general concerns around concussion, which may be to the detriment of Gilmours long term health.
  5. A good win and a proper confidence booster which has been a rarity this season. I missed the first 15 or so minutes but wasn't that impressed by Leinster, I think that's the poorest I've seen them in years. I feel for Connor Boyle who must be watching Darge play like this for Glasgow and thinking "that could've been me", instead he has to sit behind Watson, Ritchie and Crosbie at Edinburgh. Good on Darge though, he's finally getting his chance (despite being ready for years) and is certainly taking it. It definitely felt sad watching Niko in a Glasgow shirt for (presumably) the last time. My interest in rugby was fairly minimal between roughly 2012-16 but Glasgow were so entertaining that I kept an eye on them. He was as important a part of that as anyone, particularly in his scrum half days. Good luck to him with whatever he does.
  6. The Demons are seriously good.
  7. I remember as a 15 year old stumbling across this series and finding Roxburgh the most interesting character I'd listened to in Scottish football. The trick he's doing at 5.13 was new to me then and kept me busy for many an hour when I was younger. In the late 90s the German FA set up 121 regional centres to provide weekly coaching for 14,000 talented 11-17 year olds who weren't signed to professional youth teams. They were particularly focussed on more rural areas where quality players were more likely to go unnoticed by academy scouts. I think it was thought that 10 players from the 2014 World Cup winning squad would probably not have made it professionally if these hadn't been set up.
  8. Brechin were due to play 27 but after the league was suspended in January it was reduced to 22.
  9. Bad news. Good news. Looks like we're losing out on Bevan Rodd, a 20 year old looshead born in Scotland and starting regularly for Sale, in the opposite direction. But given I knew very little about him until a week or so ago and we need Ashman more long term, I'll be happy with just the latter.
  10. There was a bit of talk 15 odd years back but it was also because we were shite in that spell too. I was thinking about this after our latest play off defeat. I think I'm right in saying that other than those in the top flight who haven't been relegated in decades, if ever, (Motherwell, Aberdeen and Celtic with Killie now off this list) no team in the SPFL has stayed in the same division longer than ourselves. Tbf it's been far from boring recently. Results on a week to week basis generally go from one extreme level of daftness to the other.
  11. The prospect of going down doesn't scare me as much as it does fans of other clubs in this league. We spent most of our existence in the Highland League and would have many good derbies, cracking away days every other week and probably a good chance of finishing near the top each season and therefore the odd chance of a play off to get back up. I was miserable for the first half of the 2014/15 season though as I felt sure Brora would relegate us in the play off. And I still dream of watching us win the Champions League one day, which becomes harder to do in the Highland League. In conclusion, I would be devastated to go down and would far rather be playing in the higher division. But there would be the odd perk that might make it more bearable.
  12. A genuinely incredible achievement by St Johnstone, fair fucking play. Callum Davidson is clearly a very good manager and I'd expect he'll have a great career.
  13. That was an entertaining game last night that really could have gone either way. We performed well but there were too many errors in midfield and defence which provided Edinburgh with the chances they needed. Ironically I thought they passed up quite a few good ones with pot shots from distance when a bit of composure could well have punished us, but that's how they scored the winner and fair play to Campbell for an excellent strike. I thought we took very few risks and played a percentage game, which can be frustrating to watch but there is no one better at this level than Hester at producing something out of nothing. McHardy got his head to at least one other corner and had one taken off him as he was about to score early on. I haven't seen many players in this league who are so dangerous from set pieces and we really need to improve our deliveries going forward to utilise this. They have been awful at times recently (last night aside). It's still painful thinking about that ending but it shouldn't take away from a really good performance and ultimately a pretty successful season in the end. Edinburgh had easily the second most eye-catching squad in the league with plenty of players with experience in the top two divisions. To run them so close is an achievement I think. Good luck to them in the final, particularly as I think we'd fare better against Dumbarton next year.
  14. Very proud of the players for this season but that hurts a lot.
  15. McHale has been superb and McHardy coming up with another attacking header masterclass is extremely well timed. This game has been entertaining and it's very evenly poised.
  16. O'Keefe in for Sopel and MacEwan in for Mailer for us. I think the former is a good move but not sure about the latter, MacEwan has it in him but needs to step up. Tbf it looked like Mailer took a knock on Saturday so that could be a factor.
  17. I've caught the end of a few Swans games this season and they've been extremely tense. They're an exciting side. Melbourne have had a ludicrous start, it'll be interesting to see if they can keep it up all year.
  18. It feels weird to say in a game where were at least as impressive as our (quality) opponents but other than a highly promising start I thought we were poor. It's reassuring though that despite it being a mediocre performance we were still able to create plenty of really good chances and are ultimately right in the tie. All to play for on Tuesday. It'll be really tough but stranger things have happened in the last few weeks alone.
  19. I often wonder how Melbourne Victory feel about themselves after a defeat.
  20. Do play off games usually get a thread for each leg? As it's officially named the "League 1 play off" should I have started it in that forum? It's been a while since we were in the play offs so I can't remember. Regardless, I cannot wait.
  21. A superb ending to an utterly mad regular season. The players and staff have shown an incredible mentality to bounce back from that dreadful run of form a few weeks ago, enormous credit should go to all of them for that. I wasn't at all confident coming into this game, but we played without fear and I thought thoroughly merited that result. The whole team was excellent, I could write several paragraphs on them but I'll keep it brief for now. Every team has had a brutal schedule recently, but the fact we've put in most of our best performances of the season during it to turn things around when it would have been easy to crumble I think puts us in a really good position going into the play-offs. They must also have done a lot more travelling in this period than most other teams. It'll be nice to have a few days rest between games for a change, then onto the serious stuff.
  22. I'm not looking forward to this at all. It's bad enough playing the champions with our season in the balance but desperately looking out for another score makes it particularly stressful. I just hope we do it.
  23. Really enjoying this season so far. Most games I've watched have been really close, it's hard to predict a lot of them and it's so good seeing some big crowds in.
