  1. Take Shaughan's idea further and have banned managers locked in the local cells from 2:30-5 every Saturday. I really enjoyed the Clydebank piece. I think having more segments like that, discussing particularly interesting eras at Scottish clubs in a bit of depth, would improve the show further. But what do I know.
  2. Archie Macphee back for a fourth spell on loan from Formartine. He polarises opinion a bit I think but very handy player to have in the squad.
  3. I had the Bunnies to win too. Regretted it instantly. If Latrell ever becomes consistent he'll be the best player in the competition by a distance. An absolute freak.
  4. Hard to have anyone but Richmond as favourites. Port have recruited well after playing exceptionally well last year and Geelong have brought in some quality players, particularly Cameron, so I'd think they'll be up there again. They'll be desperate to win one in the next couple of years before Dangerfield and Selwood start to decline. I could see Brisbane dropping off a bit, not convinced Daniher is what they needed. Sydney I could see being the big risers this year and Collingwood dropping way off (hopefully).
  5. A very good show again. They have done many good things over the last couple of years but the comprehensive rebuttal of the reserve teams was one of my favourite moments. Jackie McNamara always came across as very dull as a manager but that was another entertaining interview. Well done all involved and keep it up.
  6. A nice piece of news for a change, having games on a Saturday again will be a huge boost. I'd expect plenty of midweek games too.
  7. To be honest I think they'd sweep up even more young players but it's hard to say unless it happens. As you mentioned with the loan system, big clubs are hoarding players to a ridiculous extent these days.
  8. Possibly but in the long term I don't see them being satisfied with that. When reserves were added to the Challenge Cup it was u20s only, then the next year they were allowed two overage players, then it was u21s with two overage players. They just want their foot in the door, then as time passes they can start campaigning for new rules to suit themselves.
  9. Even if they couldn't go as high as the Championship clubs in that league would still be affected. I'd almost guarantee both teams would sign up experienced players from lower divisions, as happens with Bayern and Barca etc. to improve their reserve teams. They'll end up playing a league or two below what they're capable of but earn a good bit more money than they would at Queen of the South, Alloa or Morton. They'll also hang onto players for an extra couple of years after they'd normally be released, again to help out the reserve side. Rather than Regan Hendry for example going onto become a great player at Raith, it's easy to see him hanging around playing for Celtic reserves until he's 23 if they were admitted to League 2. Championship (and indeed League 1) clubs will suffer as the suitable player pool will likely be a good bit smaller when you also consider how many loanees they get from both clubs.
  10. This is the first final I've been able to enjoy without bothering too much about who wins in 5 years. Very much looking forward to it, hope it's a cracker.
  11. A very good show. Danny Lennon needs to work on his geography but was decent entertainment.
  12. Indigenous v Maori Allstars is always one of my favourite games of the year.
  13. I got an email about it earlier in the week and thought it said Thursday, oh well. Worthwhile?
  14. File "what's the point in referees?" in Gerrard's book of wisdom alongside "provoction" and thinking 8 figures=one million. I shouldn't expect anything less from a man who assaults others over a song choice.
  15. Ever since Darcy Graham debuted for Edinburgh people have questioned his high ball and defensive ability. I presume this is solely down to his lack of height because he's almost never shown any weakness in either area. In fact he's generally excellent defensively, more solid than van der Merwe.
  16. Berghan to Glasgow is slightly strange. Leaves Embra pretty short at tighthead and I'm not convinced Glasgow need him although we'll see who stays and who leaves. I was hoping it would be a back rower or two that moved across.
  17. Some performance. Hard to pick players out given how many played well but I'm going to anyway. Hogg was absolutely colossal in the 2nd half, that torp he launched downfield is one of the best kicks I've ever seen on a rugby pitch. Thought Jonny Gray was a bit unlucky not to get man of the match, superb throughout. I've been critical of Turner for his throwing but he stood up massively today, good on him. Matt Fagerson had his best performance for Scotland today, he's always been a serious talent and at 22 could be our number 8 for over a decade. He showed that there's more to being a number 8 than just smashing into people a few times a game. Similarly Redpath was superb on debut and could be our 12 for a long time. Jones will be spewing that he didn't cap him while he had the chance. The taking the knee stuff was disappointing and I'd like to know the reasoning behind it. He will be aye, Stade Nicois were 4th tier at the time too and only 2 and a half years ago. Quite the rise. He's been really dependable whenever he's played for Embra but Cockerill has bizarrely favoured Willemse until recently. It was great seeing him and Redpath lift the cup so good on Hogg for suggesting that.
  18. Turned on about 15 minutes into the Farense game last night. Gauld had a decent enough game but will need to play better to make the Euros squad. He showed some real moments of quality with a few good dribbles and in particular crossing and set piece delivery. He gave the ball away quite a few times however, particularly on his right side which surprised me as I remembered him as being pretty two footed. I don't think I've been as excited about a young Scottish player breaking through as I was about Gauld. His close control in tight spaces and vision were a joy to watch and quite rare in a Scottish player. I'd love to see him continue to progress and have a decent Scotland career. I see he's being linked with a move to Braga this morning which might be a move towards that.
  19. A good show. I would encourage the fans making substitutions idea as it would quickly highlight the fact that supporters, for the most part, do not know better than the manager.
  20. With Cumdog and Charlie Adam in the team I'm not missing another Dundee game for a while. Box office!
  21. Ex-Elgin players having quite an impact in the Championship game tonight. Shane and Daniel McKay both scored and now Omar sent off, which will surprise no one.
  22. Looking forward to this coming back. As the Rhythm Method sang, "I can't think of a bettter way to spend my Friday night".
  23. The pitch at Lochinver is enclosed by a cliff with the sea loch just across the road. Ancrum in the Borders have a lovely wee pitch.
  24. Charlie Adam is good at football and should stick to it for as long as possible. Whenever he opens his mouth drivel comes out.
  25. A decent read, well done. Just a minor point, and I know he's been used as a wing back for Morton, but Omar didn't do much defending at Elgin, let alone play in defence.
