  1. Proud haggis fan here.

At the risk inserting a Kenneth gif, it's probably down to my recent fish experiences. Normally it should be a stand out winner but they've ranged from meh to still frozen in the middle. What kind of chippy used frozen fish???!!!

With Haggis, you invariably know that you are getting standard wise.

    'Mon the Haggis.

Are we limiting ourselves to pastry casing pies only or are iced-top pies worthy of consideration ?

Personally I think the latter are overkill.  I mean I like pineapple rings and I like black pudding but I wouldn't eat them together.  Not often anyway.

I highlighted these delights last year. They are the sexier cousin of the mince pie and I commend them to you all. Not sure the purists will stand for it though.

  3. Probably a multitude of reasons.

Firstly the new poppies are rubbish and fall apart in minutes.

The direct link to WW1 has gone and even WW2 is down to tiny numbers. I appreciate the Poppy is for all conflicts but they are primarily linked to those two events. My kids are older teenagers and even the like of The Troubles or Iraq barely register with them.

There will also be a lot like me who happily tapped a £5 donation to Poppy Scotland but don't want anything to do with Remember Fest.

  4. Colour me shocked that there was no substance to the Poppy seller 'assault' story. However, given the story has been pushed all round the globe thanks to the Daily Mail and similar minded outlets, their job has been done. Straight out the Goebbels playbook.

Fair play to the Gammonati. They've really gone to town with the propaganda  this Rememberance Fest and I fear there is a real danger of trouble.

    Which only helps their agenda.

Lower Saxony derby on Sunday as H96 hosted bottom of the table Eintracht Braunschweig.

The usual massive police operation in place (1st photo was ca. half an hour before kick-off).  H96 the better side, taking a deserved early lead in the 12th minute courtesy of Fabain Kunze. Marcel Hastelberg, signed in the summer from RB Leipzig, converted a penalty just before half-time.

Braunschweig down to 10 men, after their wee arse of a captain, Jannis Nikolaou, received a 2nd yellow. Thereafter, only going to be one winner.

H96 had a goal VARd just before the final whistle.

The win moves H96 upto 3rd, 5 points behind top of the table St. Pauli who are the next openent in Hamburg on Friday night (unfortunately couldn't get a ticket).

2nd placed Hamburg take on 5th placed Kiel on the Saturday. Fortuna Düsseldorf, now in 4th,  who surprisingly lost at home to Wehen Wiesbaden, travel to 6th placed Greuther Fürth.

Out of interest, when did the Central Belt make the move from a chip shop sausage being one large one to two medium sized ones?  The latter's certainly a 21st Century thing in my experience, and some Central Belters seem to get very pernickity about "ah only got wan sassidge!" when they venture further afield.

Is the rUK a double sassidge society?

As a central belter in his late 40s, a sausage super has always been 2 battered sausages (grey 'meat' and incredibly salty) for as long as I've known. So we're talking early 80s at least.

Smoked sausage supper is unbattered and just a single item.

  7. As a gentleman who's been known to enjoy a cake or three, the price rise in Mr Kipling products from around £1 to £2.50 has been a step too far. Even for a glutton like me.

I've switched to the supermarket own brands and, more often than not, they're absolutely fine.

I can hear myself turning into my own mum and telling my yet to be convinced kids that " they're all made in the same factory".

  8. Just finished Politics on the Edge by Rory Stewart. Enjoyed it but I did feel it ran out of steam about 3/4s through. Understandable given everyone knows the outcome I guess.

Nothing revealed about the political world most didn't already know - Truss a thick robot, Boris a charlatan etc - but some good one liners.

My 'bought but not yet read' pile beside my bed is getting ridiculous but moved onto In Search Of Berlin just published by John Kampfner.

Before Neilly pays us another visit I'd just like to congratulate the team and management for what was an excellent away win at Clyde yesterday.

The unsung heros remain the kids who drew the player portraits. They are sensational. I'm actually willing different goalscorers just to see the full range.

Ross MacLean is the best so far but well done to whoever dreamt up the idea.

  10. Totally last minute but on Monday I noticed that Ryanair still had cheap flights to Hamburg this weekend (think everyone else was trying to get to Oktoberfest) so I made another flying visit to see Hannover 96 v Weisbaden with my daughter

Pre match pints in glass tumblers in the beer garden with @German Jag. Decent game with a 31,000 crowd enjoying a home win.  Then a post match Schnitzel. What's not to like?

If you've not had the German fußball experience, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Just started watching Top Boy this morning from what I thought was season 1 after the first 5 episodes realised it was actually the 3rd season as Netflix randomly just decided to call the first 2 seasons something else and not keep them together. Raging.

You'll also spend the next few days going about your house talking about 'making Ps', 'selling food'  and saying 'in a bit'.

    Bless.

  12. Enjoyed that yesterday. Ochilview remains one of my favourite away grounds. Not sure what astro surface they have but if we are to go down that route Stenny's seems far superior to likes of Kilmarnock.

Unsung hero for me was Blair Malcolm. Did lots of the midfield graft and donkey work well and it was noticeable how much more time on the ball they had when he was moved to right back.
