  1. It's on Comedy Central in the UK. Channel 5 are showing a UK version soon.
  2. Last night's new one was tremendous, with the guy in the burger place texting the manager to sack Murr. Hilarious.
  3. Coming back on in a few days time...
  4. I did it myself without much thought. Grew up in Alloa, went to Stirling.
  5. Honestly....One guy applies here with nowhere near our minimum entrance requirements. Out of curiosity I opened up his personal statement to see why he even bothered. The statement was basically a love letter to Glasgow Caley, saying why he always wanted to go there and thought their degree was the best. I don't work at Glasgow Caley. Funny thing in Scotland is people going to the 'local' university. Nowhere else has this. I get a lot of Glasgow applicants who'll never come as they get itchy as soon as they hit the motorway
  6. Surely you are given the recommended texts...The teaching (contact time) is only meant to be a small fraction of your learning.
  7. April in the USA. Every other season has started in January.
  8. "What's your favourite Katy Perry song?" "The one where she and the other girl are committing lesbionage"
  9. I contacted the council about the neighbour's garden. They got a new sofa before christmas. The old one is now in their garden (has been for a month) alongside old toys and about 20 black rubbish bags. Back garden little better - a dozen rubbish bags all piled up. So I made a complaint to the council.
  10. Depends on the uni and their own rules as to when grades are counted. My degree was at Stirling and some grades in 2nd year counted, which went well against me as I had a big upswing in late 3rd/4th year. I know now that whenever I set a deadline, students will not look at it or think about it until about 20 days beforehand, and start work properly until (at most) 5 days before. Then I get panicked emails and calls, and then I get people handing in late with various dog-ate-my-homework excuses. None matter - my deadlines are hard and any lateness is penalised.
  11. Had me in utter stitches last night. This show always does. "It's a budda doing heroin"
  12. I get asked a lot about the 'jump' from college to uni. The thing you have to remember is that students in uni going from year 2 to year 3 usually find it's a bit of a jump as well. Of course it'll be that bit more challenging. Overall though, college students tend to do a bit better (in my experience) than they expect. Mostly it's a work ethic thing - in my classes students who went to college tend to turn up every time, whereas some who came straight from school start thinking that they can get by using course texts and the VLE and skipping a fair chunk of the lectures. Some can, but I always think that in the end their grades do suffer.
  13. I think school pupils all get told it's January or something. Last year the hard deadline where we wouldn't take anyone was the end of June. Anyone after that was in through clearing.
  14. That said, the lassie in the other advert...wid
  15. Spectre. Utter gash. Big let down after Skyfall.
  16. I enjoyed the show and although it was certainly a skewed documentary, focusing on the few areas that seem clearly to show how he was targeted, much else was left out. I'm now watching the Jinx - similar sort of thing
  17. Don't worry too much about it. I don't read them, and other admissions tutors I've spoken to don't either.
  18. People are too precious about the show. You've never had - and never will have - a series of belter after belter. This isn't Breaking Bad. This season had some real highlights - I liked the opening 2-parter, Under the Lake, The Raven and Heaven Sent. The rest were OK (aside from that one with the camp lion). Not a bad hit rate for a series. Better than the last.
  19. I enjoyed it a lot - series and episode
  20. I for one am a fan of Alex Kingston, right back to her Moll Flanders days and through ER. I am waiting though on the time when the Doctor hands her a screwdriver and says cheerio as she bustles off to the library.
  21. I hope they leave the timelords well out of it. Not everybody who watches now will have caught up to the 50 year backstory. Just have Gallifrey destroyed and leave that alone.
  22. That advert on Channel 5 for their kids show, with the woman screaming "It's Noddy!". Don't like that. And heard one on the radio today for We Buy Any Car. Some old grumpy guy muttering about how he hates people who look at his car before not buying it. "As for the 'I've-just-a-few-left-never-to-be-seen-again-lot, I really hate them". I just wanted to say: calm doon.
