  1. 100% agree, we're going one way unless we make some really significant moves in the transfer market before the end of august and even then we might still be let down by a poor manager (Maclean might not be, but the start of this season really hasn't been encouraging). It's been a slow motion car crash for a while now, a lot of our fans have been in denial about it and still are, but it's been a steady track towards being a right good laugh for everyone else.
  2. It wasn't just the signings themselves, we had a multitude of others already in the squad. We signed McGowan, Considine, Carey, Murphy and Clark who were all over 30. Only Murphy was a 1 year deal and he had an appearance based trigger. We already had Parish, Booth, Wotherspoon, Crawford, Murray Davidson, O'Halloran and I think May in that age bracket. We could literally field a functioning 11 of over 30s. (And all expensive no doubt too) My view is that Callum Davidson signed players to be short term fixes in his first window after we won the cups to keep us ticking over whilst he waited for his big move. Things quickly went to shit and that didn't materialise. We panicked in the January window 18 months ago but did enough to stay up. If Davidson had left at that point, we had some building blocks to put together a decent side, but we didn't and Davidson has put us in the position we're in now, presumably because he thought he was recruiting for a masters football team. Of course, he's not alone in this. Whoever sanctioned his signing sprees is equally culpable and time may tell moreso, after 2 years of abject failure and of rot setting in, what other team would sack that manager only to appoint the assistant? Maclean has literally not brought in any of his own back room team, just kept faith with what's already there. Mental really.
  3. We signed Considine directly from Aberdeen (and I think they offered him a deal initially too), McGowan from Kuwait and Carey from a good level in Bulgaria. Maybe wouldn't have been so damaging, but we gave all 3 2 year deals. I've heard some pretty eye watering wage figures for some of the players signed in earlier windows too, some of whom now gone, others not (still lingering like a curry fart) . We also spent a good amount of cash on transfers fees, being outsmarted by St Mirren for Macpherson being one of the fees we paid. That £2m figure - if it is true - is as much down to sheer incompetence as anything else.
  4. Courier saying he picked up a knock earlier this week but should be fine for next week
  5. WRONG. We lost to stenhousemuir and ayr to exit the league cup, losing 4-0 at home to league one Stirling Albion was just a massive boot in the baws. Sure showed you
  6. I was a cultured centre back who played for Manchester City.
  7. This has been in the post for the last 2 years. Those who made the call to keep Davidson on for most of that time, and to throw a fortune at him, are culpable for what's happening now. really beyond me that any Saints fan paying attention couldn't see the incompetence on display in the dug out on the pitch and the neglect in the boardroom tbh. Throwing a fortune at old pros, journeymen and randoms with no thought to what things would look like beyond the short term (attempted) fixes can only be down to that.
  8. I was at that game and can remember his assist, but not really much else that he tangibly contributed. All the same it was probably his best game for us. If you could include closed door games, he'd have won the balon d'or but when it mattered it looked like he had absolutely nothing to offer.
  9. Surely Motherwell won't sign Theo Bair. I don't think there's a player I wanted to succeed more than him during his time at Saints but he looked like he'd never seen a football before
  10. Really decent window if we can get McClelland and someone like McGrandless in the door. Shows that we don't have to just settle for 33 year olds looking for one last decent pay day. If we target the right types, some will come.
  11. Indeed. I wish Macca would stop saying there's deals in place or something will be completed within the next couple of days. Appreciate he's only answering honestly from his perspective but that's a few times now he's been burned.
  12. That sky interview is basically 5 minutes of nothing. I wouldn't be very open with Kris Boyd either tbh
  13. Big nope on Middleton. He's been very poor for 2 seasons, the short spell at the end of the double signing looks like the outlier
  14. Agree, but accepted standards are also far too low within the club. The signing policy is promising though, hopefully the start of a return to normal at the club.
  15. McLennan 100% would've signed for us if Davidson was still here. agree that Maclean has to be pragmatic, it's the only way we're going to survive with this team. If he becomes bogged down obsessing over a system or a set way of playing, we're no further forward than we would've been under Davidson. I'd argue Davidson had the players, the tools and the authority to play any way he wanted at Saints. He had 37 first team players - each he either had the final say in signing or gave contract extensions to - so I have very little sympathy for the plight he found himself in. A simple change in shape and playing a hit further up the park made all the difference for us last season with players Davidson had at his disposal. He was just hopelessly out of his depth and/or too arrogant to admit what he was trying to do wasn't working.
  16. I think 3 more signings or not, we're still in a lot of bother. That's the legacy left by giving a dead parrot manager a ridiculously huge budget and permission to sign far too many players, most of whom have no quality. I'm not convinced giving the assistant manager from the last two years the job on a full time basis was a good idea to be honest. Styles are chalk and cheese but how he's managed to sidestep criticism for that time period doesn't sit right with me. I felt we needed a clean out at the time and, whilst he's saying all the right things, targeting the right kind of players, he has to shoulder some of the responsibility for the previous two years too. He obviously has my full backing now he's in the job and will be patient whilst he tries to solve what currently looks like an unsolvable puzzle.
  17. Beatson taking some time off pitch invading and missing all timers in Norway to appear on the BBC. Some boy
  18. It would've been 2012/13 he played for us, he was with us under Lomas I'm sure
  19. Liam caddis and David McMillan too, some real dynamos
  20. Really encouraging business done by Maclean so far. We've managed to anger half of the English lower league fraternity two Fridays in a row, keep them coming bois.
  21. Great result for our U18s today though, beat Rangers 3-0 with McCrystal scoring twice and Ellison once
  22. Christ Callum Davidson will be trying to sign him.
