  1. Starting to wonder this myself. Definitely giving off a whiff of Stevie May 2019 right now.
  2. Carey's form last season wasn't great and Wright looked much more effective at wing back too. Essentially, there are green shoots but the team does still look a bit of a mess.
  3. Luke Jephcott? Edit: some record for Plymouth (and in league one) to be fair.
  4. In fairness there's something out there to suggest we're in for him. Maclean just said we've got two deals agreed but one of them is complicated. Very good chance we're putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5
  5. Euan Murray might be the complicated one as we would've been waiting for him to arrange his release. Quite excited to see who the new signing is for today.
  6. Hope they didn't watch that today or there will be none
  7. Was a baw hair away from adding McCrystal, Franczak and Mylchreest to the squad list above because of the levels they produced against East Fife but will wait to see if any of them (or indeed any of the other young players) make any appearances/impression in the league cup first.
  8. That looks like an excellent signing. Well done Saints and fair play to Macca for not just accepting a poor alternative because it would've been easy.
  9. Probably the first free transfer to be excited about in quite some time. Really pleased to see us targeting a player in this way and not just signing recognisable names from 2014. Still a lot of work to (only 20% there if we are making 5 signings) but an encouraging start.
  10. I can't say I've seen enough of him yet to form an opinion. Hasn't dropped any clangers and he's commanded the box well and taken pressure off at corners a few times by collecting the ball. Certainly doesn't seem to have the distance in his kicking that Zander did
  11. The 6-3 which resulted in us not trying a back 4 again (and only twice from the start under Davidson) until we played rangers in the January. Must be said though, Mitov is a much higher profile signing than I was expecting. If that's the standard Maclean is looking for and he's not willing to settle for a 'do a job' signings then fair play to him. The youngsters have all shown they're of a good standard this pre-season as well. They're maybe not ready to play 30 times a season but there looks like a few who could cover for us and maybe break in to the team later.
  12. Ferguson looked much more comfortable but was quite quiet. Showed a few moments of class and attempted a few killer passes but actually felt the other two central midfielders outshone him
  13. Second half team played in the way I think Maclean wants the first team to play. They had the legs and energy to get about the pitch and do it whereas I'm not sure the ones that started the game did (which is a bit worrying as only really McGowan, Considine and Carey could say it's not a good fit for them at this stage of their respective careers). A worrying first half but a really encouraging second I'd say. We certainly seem to have a good crop of young players all coming through together.
  14. That wasn't your full team getting planted by mostly 17 year olds in the second half I hope @Cosmic Joe? very worrying.
  15. He goes through spells (like tonight) where he doesn't look up to it any more, then hits a patch of form where he's a real asset. He's a confidence player, and I don't think playing as a lone striker helps him either
  16. Daily record reporting Mitov is due for a medical and will sign tomorrow as our new first choice goalkeeper. He's turned down English championship and league one interest to come to us. Playing budget up to £10m IMO
  17. Oh aye. 22 players with a number - 1 is away out in loan, 1 has a broken leg, 7 have less than 10 starts for us (I think) so and Kane and Clark are unavailable. Really highlights the need for those players Macca wants to bring in. On the flip side, plenty of opportunities for young players, something they wouldn't have gotten last year.
  18. Yeah that was discussed at the start of the meeting. The guy organising it showed the design of the bricks and said it was moving forward, but no details on when/costs as yet I don't think. (that's the first meeting I've attended so there may have been more details in previous minutes/meetings)
  19. He didnt say he had a preferred shape, just a preferred style. So regardless of how we set up, he wants to play on the front foot, press high and play with a high tempo. He said that, if we are behind with 10 minutes to go, he'd like to have the option to go more direct so I took it that he wants to play more possession based football than we've been used to.
  20. £4 million pounds to put last seasons squad together. Unfathomable why Davidson was allowed to do that, and why no one at the club stepped in to say enough is enough.
  21. I was really impressed with how frank and open Maclean was. I didn't think he'd be as good a speaker as he is, he's clearly very thoughtful too. Not much to add really, I feel about the same in terms of how positive/negative I'm feeling but at least now know Maclean's preferred direction of travel. It's pretty clear those in charge last season fucked up massively and we'll be paying for that for some time to come. How can a team as poor as that cost £4m?
  22. I'd probably agree. Is that strong enough to get through the league cup (assuming Brown, Macpherson and Phillips even make it next Saturday as they've all be picking up knocks and will have missed a decent amount of training) never mind stay up in the league? We've still got 4 or 5 to come in, or so the manager keeps saying, but it feels like to me we're already in puntsville or hoping players that no one else wants can do a job
  23. What is a full strength St Johnstone team right now? Appreciate we've got a good few injuries (another issue in itself; that reared it's head under Davidson and seems to be continuing under Maclean) but genuinely not sure with so many young players in the pool and with question marks over whether some of the older ones can still cut it. Will be interesting what's said at the open meeting on Monday as we seem to be a complete shambles at the moment and heading straight for a disaster. I'm not saying just because we've lost a bounce game against Partick thistle, but when you've lost 17 players and signed no one and players like Ali Crawford are back in the fold after being deemed not good enough last season, seven days out from our first competitive game, there's not really any other conclusion you can draw.
  24. I'm at the point where I'd probably be happy to take 4 guys on loan who are keen and hungry to impress and maybe an experienced back up goalie if we are looking to sign 5 players. Short termist but it means we'd be able to completely cleanse ourselves of the mess left behind by Davidson next summer. I really could do without us signing numerous 33 year olds on multi year deals again this summer and that seems to be where this is headed. I can't see us spending fees on players given how much money we've chased after bad over the last 18 months so that seems like the least worst option to me now the gettable lower league players who deserved a shot in the top flight are now all taken
