  1. Perfect example of what happens when you play to a players strengths. Fact he's tall doesn't mean he's a target man and that's all Davidson saw, someone to launch balls at and hope he could bring others into play. He's clearly a very good runner good at stretching defences and causing a bit of mayhem.

He still had elements of competition winner a few weeks ago at McDiarmid but his strengths (which we never once even attempted to play to) are there for all to see now.

I'm delighted for him. Deserves all the credit in the world for keeping on going despite being written off and laughed at in some quarters. f**k the haters.

  2. just looking at the out of contract list.

    Goalkeepers

    Dave Richards (loan expires)

    Jack Wills

    Defenders/wing backs

    James Brown

    Ryan McGowan

    Liam Gordon

    Kerr Smith (loan expires)

    Andy Considine

    Liam Parker

    Callum Booth

    Luke Robinson (loan expires)

    Tony Gallacher

    Midfielders/wingers

    Drey Wright

    Fran Franczak (maybe)

    Diallang Jaiyesimi (loan expires)

    Daniel Phillips

    Cammy McPherson

    Ali Crawford

    Cammy Ballantyne

    Graham Carey

    Attackers

    Chris Kane

    Taylor Steven

I think Gordon, McGowan, Considine, Carey and Phillips are really the only ones who can claim they deserve new contract offers from this list. Drey Wright maybe based on last season, but out of 4 years he's been with us over 2 spells essentially missed about half of it through injury. I'd be looking to offer reduced terms for all of them except Phillips to be honest, no doubt Gordon is on a fortune and the others we shouldn't be looking at them being first choice players next year if they are retained.

Franczak speaks for himself, I hope he's already fixed up with longer but I don't see any evidence of this  online so have included him too.

The rest? Get the trebauchet. Some can leave with thanks, some can maybe feel they've either not had a chance or been a bit unlucky, the rest can just f**k off, frankly.

  3. Get out of the season in the top flight and big rebuild needed in the summer, again.

I'd almost be tempted to go nuclear and just release all the players who are out of contract and give the management team as much freedom in the budget as we can. There's 2 or 3 out of contract in 2024 who perhaps deserve new deals but honestly, quicker we see the back of most of these players the better.

Imagine going to the boozer with some of these Perth lot.

Giving them some abuse as they start rattling on about the pub being an open space for anyone to enjoy peacefully. No bad words please.

Right laugh with these lot , with lord Radford ready for the Barbara Windsor Queen vic act as he chops down anyone who gets out of line.

    Suppers.

    Thank You.

    very interesting.

Just grow up and go away.

Why should he? It's a multi club forum that he enjoys posting on and he contributes well to. I don't know how he can enjoy it right enough, when he has screeching wee h8rz like you chasing him around the forum constantly but he clearly does or he'd have stopped posting a long time ago. Bringing the fact he's a young father into it and making out he's setting a bad example to his kid to try and get some green dots is pretty low and really unnecessary. It really is as simple as putting him on ignore if he ruffles your feathers as much as the last exchange suggests.

Can we not just talk about the football rather than the moronic bullshit posted on the last couple of pages please? The best Dundee side of the last 50 years are a whole 2 points ahead of one of the most inept Saints side I can remember watching in my time attending Saints games. Surely that's something for Dundee supporters to get excited about, it's not often they're in the top flight and not adrift at the bottom of the league, watching on as Saints and United aim for a European place.

Gallachers at 31 games. 0 goals, 0 assists.

He'll be needing a new contract if he wants to stay so being "our player" doesnt really matter, his contract here ends the same day as Robinsons.

Ive not seen anything at all to ever suggest hes going to be a top flight wing back and if we're playing that system its completely pointless playing him.

We need to be brutal this summer and cull the dead weight, so off he pops to the Championship.

Difference of course being we can give him a contract whereas Robinson goes back to Wigan regardless, and neither is outshining the other. I'd rather give Gallacher the space to improve and try to win a new deal than develop Wigan's player for them when there's no real difference.

How many of those 31 games came off the bench and how many minutes is it rather than games? You've always said goals/games stats are misleading so I'm surprised you'd be quite so reductive. I'm not sure you base an opinion on a left back on how many goals/ assists he has either to be honest

just for the record, I don't think Gallacher is good enough, would just rather give him the chance to prove himself than a loan player who has been pretty poor of late.

Their game in hand is, thankfully(?),  at Ibrox, but 5 points isn’t insurmountable. There’s still 14 games left to play, and we’ve likely still got to play Ross County once and Livingston twice. Bonkers to be thinking Saturday’s win took us anywhere near out of it.

By the time they play that one we'll have played Dundee so they'll be up to 2 games. A win for us on Sunday undoubtedly gives us breathing space right enough.

  8. Brown has played about 80 games for Saints, Gallacher I suspect will be on around 20 and before his leg break did show something, so for me it's about the body of evidence for them both.  Not saying he's any great shakes and I'm not convinced he's up to it either but he's at least our player and your description of him could just as easily be applied to Robinson over the last few weeks.

  9. Hold on - County are only 5 points back, have a game in hand and there's a good chance they'll benefit from a new manager bounce now as well. We are far from safe and, given the squad, the priority has to surely be scraping enough points together to stay out of the play offs. Tonight we played against a team miles better than us and we could've nicked a point. Not great performance wise and pretty eye bleeding though it was.

It's pretty clear the management team just don't rate Sprangler. We're electing to play 3 attacking midfielders who can't tackle to save themselves over him when it looked pretty clear to me we'd benefit from someone with dig in midfield. Even when he came on he played more advanced than Carey.

Robinson has been pretty poor since coming back IMO. I'd be tempted to drop him once Gordon is back and give Gallacher a run to see if he's worth giving another year to. Still feel we are crying out for a wide player. Never been Drey Wright's biggest fan but we are absolutely crying out for him right now.

There is no doubt that Levein has got results. We've got 20 points from 14 games since MacLean was sacked, season form that's 33 points which puts you up there with Killie and St Mirren. He's only lost to the Old Firm and away at Hearts and Killie in the league. Folk will point out also how close we are to the top six.

But it's hard to get your head around because we are still so rubbish. This is the worst Saints team, IMO, in two decades. They make attacking looking so difficult and struggle to build any sort of possession. The width issue was better yesterday but still there for was no one with an ability to worry an opposition full back.

I appreciate we've been blessed with the teams put together from Coyle up to the double winners, but having to accept this being what have we to look forward to is s struggle, i can't lie. Can only hope that Levein intends to put far more of a mark on things.

I don't disagree with any of this, but we've brought in Levein when we've got a poor squad filled with dead wood and with the club going through a period of cutting back the budget because of the horrific mismanagement by those previously at the club all whilst marooned at the bottom. I wanted a wide player in the window but seems Levein prioritised other things, feel he's earned the right to make that decision given where we are with this squad.

This season is all about staying up for me, by any means necessary. I won't hold that view next season when the incompetent squad building will more or less be washed away but I think Levein and Kirk have earned the right to build a squad that's more exciting and can take games to teams more than the one we currently have is capable of.

  12. Terrific result, even more so when you take account of the fact that both of our starting midfielders weren't in the squad, nor was the captain.

We've gone from being 5 points adrift at the bottom of the league after 9 games to sitting 9th, 11 points clear of bottom and 5 points clear of the play offs after 23 games. A remarkable turnaround, especially with so much dead wood in the playing squad. People haven't taken to Levein but I can't help but feel that's based on past prejudices, he's come in and more than fulfilled his remit so far.

  13. Think I'd have been much happier if we'd signed a wing back but we are where we are.

Biggest disappointment is the amount of dead wood still at the club. At the start of the window you could just about put together a dead wood 11 and a lot of that is still there, arguably one or two others added given the current state of the squad.

    Deadwood 11:

Richards (I know that's harsh as he's here as a back up, but I need a goalie)

    Brown Olunfunwa Booth Gallagher

    Costelloe Ballantyne McPherson Crawford Turner-Cooke

    Jephcott

    laughably bad.

edit: there's others you could have on the bench too.

  14. Our option at wing back are all defensively minded, unless drey wright hits the ground running and gets back into the team quickly. It was the biggest glaring hole at the start of the window for me too. Really shocked it's not really been addressed, just with a player who seems to have played his best football in a defensive central midfield position.
