  1. Add in guys below average height for the perfect awful look. Needless to say, I am short, chubby and have a beard.
  2. Very late to the conversation here, but have to remember a permanent salary of 65k per annum is a lot more than that if there is NI cont., pension costs, annual bonus etc. Don't disagree with your central point but remember from working at a bank that the contractor cost doing the same job wasn't considerably more than the salaried position when included all the costs.
  3. Yeah, the evening part was always pretty good. Idlewild did it more than once. There was a Brewdog sponsored music festival at Bogbain Farm just outside Inverness one year as well that was great. Perhaps they had to be wankers and have the outsider () personality to break through and maybe it was worth it... but christ, it's hard going at times.
  4. I'm actually an ADO season ticket holder. Dutch second tier is pretty dire, but he's been good enough this year. Direct runner, better out wide not great through the middle. Has worked well with the big target man we have when teams are stretched. Potential is there although still needs a bit to develop I reckon
  5. I'm an "equity punk" (). Had no illusions it was anything other than a members club in practice. Used to go to their AGMs when lived in Aberdeen. They encapsulated Brewdog as a company... had some decent things about it in small doses, but have to take everything with a fucking fistful of salt. Very cult like at times with their presentations and them trying to justify the private equity investment was a good laugh (although most of the "punks" there seemed to lap it up). Also, a huge amount of small, fat, ugly bearded men (unfortunately this describes me too) seem to be "punks".
  6. Would generally agree with most people here (I've been happy to take paycuts too albeit not 40%) and there are some good success stories here. There are a couple of things I'd consider from my experience though (and apologies if these come out as patronising): 1 - money is a big driver of things. You could quite possibly be happier in a different role/sector but if you're not and you have significantly less disposable income then... 2 - are you sure you want a complete change or is it possible it's just your current job. Depending on the industry, there might be other companies/roles about that would get you back into enjoying what you're currently doing. Also maybe consider any preconceptions you might have. My example would be I never wanted to work as an accountant in a bank thinking I'd not enjoy it, but decided to do it for a couple of years to get some savings... and it ended up being one of my favourite jobs in terms of work tasks and colleagues.
  7. Dutch government an absolute shambles and keeping bars, cafes and restaurants shut in latest press conference tomorrow (been closed since 19th December). Masks and vaccine passports totally worth it...
  8. Was visiting folk and they had a 1986 decanter from Bells. Think the folk thought it might be worth something but once I said no (after checking the internet tbf) they said said crack on. One thing I noticed was 43% rather than the 40% now, don't know when it changed? Was actually alright, very easy to drink. If I hadn't actually opened the sealed bottle myself then would have said someone (their kids maybe!) had watered it down a little. Know it doesn't continue to "age" once bottled, but can bottlings lose a bit of ABV if left for a while?
  9. I think for some people that a reason for independence was to be run by politicians they thought more aligned to their way of thinking and (naively perhaps) of a "better standard" (whatever that would mean). I don't disagree with what you're saying per se, but would be interesting to know the % of support for independence that was down to SNP >Tories. I fear as someone who would like independence that it might be relatively high and the handling of the pandemic will (rightly IMO) reduce that. If that is the case, the question would be how many demographics are more likely to vote independence after the SNPs handling of the pandemic.
  10. An explanation that sounds like it's been thought up in the back of a car by Hugh Abbot, Glenn Cullen and Olly Reeder this morning.
  11. Most of South Africa (or atleast a large proportion) are white so that doesn't really work, Britain is just so arrogant and ignorant about anything foreign, white or otherwise. 80.7% Black 8.8% Coloured 7.9% White 2.6% Asian (According to Wiki that is...!) I also dont think this is just a UK thing to be honest. I'm in the Netherlands and they seem to have totally overreacted as well.
  12. I also think whilst this is an echo chamber, you can see the shift (rightly in my opinion) to a lot more people on here being a lot more pissed off about what's happening.
  13. Are the thoughts of the P&B demographic wildly out of line with the rest of the country, or are attitudes to potential further restrictions going to really start pissing off the majority of folk? (I agree with pretty much everything people have been saying on here this morning)
  14. Called Krakatoa now (although still run by same people and think it's a workers collective). They did the toilets up a while ago and renovated the place later. Probably my favourite pub in the world! But I know what you mean, and the toilets used to be an absolute disgrace.
  15. Even if It’s decided the rules have been applied wrong, how can the result be overturned (genuine question).. Only way I can see is they’d have to say mistake made remainder of race invalid, therefore taking placings at time of error. Any precedent for that?
  16. Noticed this flying from Aberdeen to Europe yesterday too. Not just cheaper but seemed a lot larger selection than before. Definitely worth keeping in mind. Was given a tasting of 3 different sherry casks after told the store assistant that's what I was into at the moment, and picked up the one I liked most - Mortlach 16 year old which was 50 quid instead of about 65.
  17. They probably need to as the cases are going through the roof... what would be interesting to know is why that's happening? Headline numbers look to be way worse than UK (the masks on public transport and vaccine passes haven't helped funnily enough).
  18. 80s/early 90s Robert de Niro wouldn't have needed much time in makeup to play him in a biopic.
  19. Coincidentally getting the ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick tonight although, and this is sortof a relevant point in terms of deciding which one to go to, was supposed to go yesterday night before I checked the forecast! (Ferry company is good at changing bookings even at last moment). Aberdeen to Lerwick ferry can be particularly bleak if bad weather, and there's no guarantee you'll get a decent one in summer (in fact, one of worst trips I've had was in the middle of July). Kirkwall and Stromness in Orkney used to be a lot better than anything you'd get town wise in Shetland, but there are a few newer places in Lerwick the last few years. Personally, if I wasn't sure I'd head to Orkney first and see what you make of it. Less hassle to begin with. Orkney also has an extra choice of getting there too if you go up to the north coast and get the significantly shorter ferry from Scrabster (a route with nice views both getting to Scrabster and on the ferry).
  20. I live about five minutes walk from HVV Den Haag and they are very similar to what you say about Quick. Nowhere near as big a ground but do like the bit of trivia that they are the only Dutch club outside the main three to have won more than ten titles, “allowing” them to put a star on their top. Shame they were all (I think) over a century ago!
  21. Need the QR vaccination code in Holland for going to the football. There it is someone scanning the QR code just outside the turnstyle. That was for a relatively small crowd though (5k or so), not sure how efficient that would be for much more than that.
  22. First heard about it whilst playing pool at the Fisherman’s Mission in Lerwick. Could be speaking absolute rubbish here but around the ten year anniversary seem to remember discussions that anyone in the UK who saw the second plane hitting live on BBC or ITV was actually misremembering, it wasn’t shown live on UK tv.
  23. Brexit will have made some routes significantly harder (virtually impossible), but as Diego alludes to, where there's a will there's a way. My story is pretty boring. Partner and I fancied living abroad, and decided on the Netherlands 3.5 years ago. Moved over and then got jobs in The Hague. It's not the most exciting city to be honest but very central.
