  1. With money tight for most, which will effect every club in Championship, and season tickets low, I'd go for McGowan as first choice DCM as he can get the ball forward better than the other options. Haven't seen Mulligan as right back but if, as I would expect, he can provide cover there then that should be one area of concern covered. So, a guy that can spread the passes (in my dreams the next Cammy Fraser) and the magical one that can put the ball in the net (the next, without being too ambitious, Kane Hemmings) and I would say we would be more than there (happy to rely on youths for cover) . If we are to spend the budget anywhere these would be my priority. That said we will likely need to allow time for the squad and manager to really figure out how to play within GB's, potentially moving while he really figures out the players strengths and weaknesses, game plan so not expecting an overnight miracle. I'm feeling positive..............but I've been here before. Maybe wait till Jan to figure this all out and splash the cash then if needs must, Nelms will know the difference between getting up or not and I don't think we're going to be up against another Roy McGregor. Keeping hopes in check for moment and not expecting a flying start. I can remember 80-81 where we got 2 points from first 7 games and still got promoted, definitely expecting better than that though
  2. I would say so, yes. He is prone to the occasional bomb scare moments though
  3. Good first fixture, Partick certainly used to bring a really good crowd for first league game of the season. Hopefully the same now to kick off the season with a good atmosphere
  4. With Bowyer in charge I am expecting proper organisation and fitness, something we've been lacking for many, many, years. With this, last season, I recon we could have, just, stayed up. We are where we are. We do have some promising youth and this is the opportunity for them to show, if they can, that they can rise to the challenge. Still, key to last year was Adam for his creative role. This is clearly a gap to be filled, because you can't really expect to replace Adam's quality, with a player that can do that role decently over 90 mins regularly. Elliot gone, thankfully, so right back cover required. Kerr was clearly one of our best players last season and, particularly with proper management, could really kick on. Up front really worries me, will Sheridan be fit and will he be good enough even with proper service? I assume Rudden will join but I didn't see enough, though he does need a 4,4,2 with good support striker. Let's face it, everyone is on the lookout for the great striker, hopefully GB has identified an affordable one. So, one cover, two real quality signings and fingers crossed that luck is on our side.
  5. I'd rather have a manager in that could convince players that we are a good team to join. Potential signings will be being snapped up while we dither. That said, better to get a good manager as a priority
  6. I'd certainly have Hartley back, yes he made errors and was rightly punted but he looks to have learnt from them and when he was good he was very, very good. Doubt that will happen though. Nobody mentioning Tommy Wright, he's way better than some of the names we've been linked to
  7. Heard through grapevine that Ross is a definite no so wouldn't clutch at these straws.
  8. Still think playing St J much more of an atmosphere than those highland bores. Re Scott Allen, thought he played with ICT for a bit, wasn't excited by what I saw on tv (not much to be fair). Bigger priority for me is a physical presence in the midfield, something we've lacked for years. I mean, who would you regard as the current player that consistently wins headers in the middle of the park? Unless we want to go for the McCann style total football on a shoestring strategy again!!!
  9. Clearly always happy for that little sh1t to fail but games against St Johnstone are going to be far better atmosphere than against Inverness. And besides, if you want to see a great example of bore football just watch back their game against Arbroath, even when 11 v 11 it was atrocious to watch Inverness with their "game-plan". So maybe better for them to go up and then come straight back down and save us from having the little .... at Dens more than we have to
  10. We all know McPake only got results when Adam was around. During McGhee's time he was frequently out and even when he was back he was incredibly unfit. McGhee also had to cope with reserve keeper situation. Glad McGhee is gone but I certainly thought the defending and attacking football in some of his games was best of the season (not saying a lot). Certainly don't believe we would have stayed up with McPake in charge
  11. Clearly Adam wants to get into the coaching to management side. If a club can give him that, and I can't see why we couldn't, then he should be good for 30 mins a game while he gets the route into coaching, albeit on a reduced financial package. Can't see any club giving him anything like his current package to be a player and he will surely recognise that now is the time to get on the ladder of management positions (assistant?).
  12. Charlie Adam of first half of this season, yes. Not now though, he'd really be just a 30 min sub appearance at best. Even with a decent pre season I just can't see it working and too big a risk to gamble on his wages v other option. We need to build for the future with someone of the quality to help get us up with 90 mins each game (and preferably without periods of injuries) and be around if we can get up. Just need to find the next Cammy Fraser, simples
  13. Me too what we have for next season is - with cover in brackets, if with mins then expected to come on. 12 players so 451, one striker to drop out, or 442, one midfielder to drop out Legsdins (Lawlor) Kerr Lamie (McGhee) Sweeney (Ashcroft) Marshall McMullen (McCowan) Anderson Byrne (McGowan, 55min) Mulligan Jakubiak (McGinn 55min) Rudden Sheridan permanently on bench - Chapman We've had a real problem scoring goals over last few seasons and above would really require Anderson and Mulligan to really push on. Clearly full back cover required, strikers could do with being added to and a real quality, though preferably not getting past it, midfielder. Can't see wholesale changes so who could come in?
  14. Arbroath currently on 1.77 points per game, we finished last season, with an on form Charlie Adam, with 1.67 points per game. Don't think we should be underestimating anyone
  15. Very similar squad to the one that struggled to get out of the Championship last season. Biggest exception is, I recon, Charlie will be away (even he must realise that he can't carry on). Going to require some decent replacements for the few that are out of contract, though Mulligan looks like he could fit the bill for one of these positions next season
  16. From BBC - Even if Tam Courts' side lose, it would need Hibernian and Ross County to win - and there to be a winner in the Livingston v Motherwell game - along with a goal difference swing, to deny them a top-six place. Only thing is, for a goal difference swing to be a factor Utd would need to score at least 5 and lose by one goal. They must be thinking it will be some game, either that or they aren't thinking at all
  17. But you are! You start by talking about fitness then go on about a player who is probably the fittest we have - name anyone you think might be fitter. I agree that fitness levels at Dundee are shocking and we can all see how we struggle in final 20 mins but Kerr, really?
  18. I think it's listed, so theoretically no. If it isn't allowed to be pulled down though I think it will just fall into disrepair as no-one will look after it. Doubt it could really be used for anything else
  19. Don't know but my guess would be PSG merging Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain. As for drums, can't efn stand them
  20. So Morelos isn't pushing McGhee in the build up to the goal? Replays show he'd already done that trick with an earlier chance which brother Madden also didn't happen to see!! On other hand I'm very glad that you are so concerned about racial abuse and would clearly call up any sectarian chanting that went on today as a priority as you care so much about it. Maybe you're blind, deaf and still think that team you support are Glasgow Rangers?
  21. Good backs to the wall fight about us until Gowser went off today, seemed to fall apart a bit after that, though pretty unlucky with first and ridiculously unlucky with second. Wont be playing the arse cheeks again this season so a very different response from now on where we aren't expected to sit deep and must be looking to win games. While not being soft through the middle we have to be creating more chances than we have been. Might seem a bit harsh to drop players after today but needs really must. Was glad he wasn't playing today but anyone any idea when Charlie might return?
  22. Agree, I remember being utterly raging at McPake, he was constantly playing the DAB's onside. Probably because he was so slow he decided to sit 5 yards behind the rest of the "defence". After all this reminiscing about the dross we've been watching over the last 10 years it's maybe time for a drink or 20
  23. Pish but >> Danny Williams, Craig Curran, Sean Mackie
  24. I'm sure another poster, pretty sure not a Dundee fan, posted that we just don't have the right kind of defenders comfortable playing a back 3 as they continually end up in no mans land. This makes a back 4 the only sensible option (we can play a back 5 against arse-cheeks but if we wish to be getting 3 points from some games that's not really the way forward). As mentioned over the last couple of pages we also just don't have that mix of players that works well for a middle 4 so we end up with a 5 man midfield otherwise we are just cut open. Not sure what the mix should be at moment as we're not scoring nearly enough (McGinn/McCowan Adam Gowser Anderson McMullen)? Perhaps Mullen coming on for Anderson or Gowser as neither last well in final 20 mins. Of course we could go for the mighty Chapman...
  25. Gut feeling is that he knows getting fit for next season will be beyond him and he'll announce retirement. McPake had more than long enough to put out a team that worked without him, unfortunately with the squad he assembled he couldn't get them to perform.
