  1. The Dons 67 semi was against Dundee Utd at Dens. Another crap game, an og in the first few mins then not very much else. 40 plus thousand crowd though.
  2. I went to all home and away cup games from 1966 through to mid 79’s. That semi was a pretty drab affair as was the Falkirk game. Too many players missing (flu iirc) hence Mackay getting a game. The memory that sticks out most for me was the absolute drunken carnage on the journey from train station to Muirton Park.
  3. Another memory from that final. Glasgow bookies were giving something like 7-1 against the Dons and considering the team we had and the result two weeks prior it was a pile on, from our bus anyway.
  4. Not the first time they were cheated out of a win. Only two weeks before the final we gubbed them 2-1 down there with a brand new Arthur Graham playing a stormer and scoring. Gemmel, having failed to kick Bumper off the park, got a late consolation goal.
  5. I would like the AFC response to be zero. I hope that JG continues to say what he thinks wrt his opinion on player’s cheating. I have no problem with Neilson’s comments on Ferguson on two fronts. First, he may well have been right just as JG may well be It’s basically club tribalism that persuades most fans views on who’s right or wrong in these issues. Second and most important, it’s his opinion, it’s as valid as anyone else’s. I don’t get the knicker wetting on the actual harm in managers calling out cheating. Are refs so spineless that it makes any difference?
  6. I've not really been keeping up with this but was it not the hover pitch with the retractable roof that bust the original rangers?
  7. I'm no fan of either of the two cheeks but some shite going on here. Never mind the opposition what about the actual Celtic team that year? Who would you drop to replace with a current Rangers or Celtic player?
  8. Spot on! Cove, Peterheid, Brechin and Montrose all readily accessible for lower league fix. Dundee even.
  9. Saw Chalky Whyte at a school run a wee while ago (Granda school run that is!) and checked his career out leading on to the subject of Turnbull type clear outs; the rebuild was a far different story then. Hard to believe but Aberdeen were in a worse state than they are now, not only finishing 12th but nowhere near the "best of the rest" in terms of wages and status. Turnbull came in Feb 65, the following season his key move was bringing in Melrose from Dunfermline about half way through (no window then) and had to fight the board for the 4k fee! In 65-66 he brought in Clark and Millar from QP, Wilson from Morton, White from Hearts (exchange for Kerrigan IIRC?) and Mcmillan, Chalky and Jinky Smith from the juniors. All of whom, except Millar, were first team regulars by the season end, some hit rate. It took a few years before good young loons like Buchan (for good read WC), Craig, Taylor, Graham etc came through along with signings like Forrest, Harper etc took us on to a great team that came second twice to an outstanding Celtic team. Even then players like Hermiston and Robb came straight from the juniors. I don't think JG is a Turnbull and he may not get as long to do the job required. I live in hope however and will renew my ST this week on the basis that the only way is up, isn't it??
  10. I've seen Harry Milne a dozen times or so over the last few seasons. Very unusual for a 25 year old to have had a career basically in the Juniors, Highland League and lower divisions actually make the grade at Premiership level but I have to say he's pretty good and may well be worth a low cost punt. I've never noticed the boy Dunne. It that was our intake then definitely shite but I would hope it would be squad filler stuff.
  11. Considine and his agent are not getting the deal they want. The story is leaked. A classic agent type sledging modus operandi. If I was Goodwin I'd dig my heels in otherwise he's set up as a soft touch. It's a negotiation about a contract and there's probably another 12-20 (in and out) to get through before next season. Considine will be fine, he's a great guy and a good pro, I'm sure he'll do a good job for someone. Might have even been ok for us but that's a punt at best.
  12. "Very insecure from Goodwin." You think so? Goodwin may well be wrong, Considine may well have a bit left as a squad player and he remains one of my all time favourites. However, I think it shows that Goodwin won't be sledged by an agent which is no bad thing.
  13. Divine right? Don't make me laugh, it's professional sport, the entertainment business. You give the manager the third highest budget in the league and they fail to deliver to that or at least near then you sack him, he's failed. It's not a charity thing, you're living in the past min. The managers are part of the business, they fully understand the deal and have better severance arrangements in place than most others in the real world.
  14. The whole living in the past thing is a bit over played, who actually cares? At the moment I'm living with an expectation that we should be better than 9th and meekly exiting cups. In managerial terms the only manager we've had in the last 40 years that wasn't sacked was Craig Brown and he was basically demoted upstairs. Just about anything would be upwards from there. In saying that, given the right company, I thoroughly enjoy a bit of nostalgia, Ernie Winchester, Billy Little, Ally Shewan and all that.
  15. Tough call, but with current trajectory I go for Cove Rangers.
  16. Briefs received, no problem and no waiting involved. Sumdee else did it like.
  17. Fair chance it will be the Dons but the real banter will kick off when the Falkirk Variation of Covid 19 (yet to happen but it's coming) kicks in after 22 games played; Aberdeen are bottom of the division when fitba is cancelled and the SPFL votes for no relegation due to curtailed season. Happy days.
  18. Very much agree with this. Also, I think it would be really beneficial for Rangers and Celtic in the long run as I don't see them getting away with the "politics and history for thick c*nts" stuff that they do in Scotland. They would have to toe the line for the big TV bucks. They definitely have the crowds to compete at least in theory, in saying that so do Sunderland and a few other fairly average teams such as Newcastle, Middlesborough and a couple of Sheffield's. Would their fans accept a win ratio of less than 30% such as Newcastle at the moment in exchange for having more internationals in their squad, i.e. more money?
  19. For my age group of Dons it has to be Derek Mackay. Winning goals in the quarter and semi final then two in the 3 - 1 final win against Celtic in 1970. Left three games later apparently in dispute with signing terms and/or cup winning bonus never to be heard of again. Only played 15 games in all for us.
  20. I pledge to bail out sevco if I win the lottery this week. Just need that three numbers to come up.
