  1. Thought the porn backing audio was a poor choice, but I guess uefa are just trying to keep up with modern times. Decent group in terms of chances, but not the easiest from an acquiring a ticket point of view.
  2. Bit of a sickener today but a point away from home I guess. You lads are obviously having a decent season so far, but is there a wee bit of concern over the loss of points in matches you should comfortably have won? Seems to be quite a few now. Obviously the table looks peachy just now from a Dundee perspective, and there looks to be enough shite below to keep you well clear of bother, but it’s a funny league for teams going on runs, good or bad, and a 5-6 match run without a win can change things completely.
  3. Just imagining the inevitable astro slide leg burns with salt in the wounds…
  4. New Douglas Park (or whatever it’s currently called) gets a lot of stick, but for an away fan the view from behind the goal to the opposite end is excellent. It’s close to the pitch but high up. It’s never going to be a favourite with only 2 sides developed, but compared to st Mirren, Motherwell, County (and possibly McDiarmid behind the goal as well?) etc the view is far superior. Dens and Tynecastle aren’t too bad as they’re quite steep and you can sit further up for a better view.
  5. A season opener at Rugby Park. Three superb goals. Murray Davidson hitting the crossbar from the centre circle. But the last minute winner from O’Halloran on his first game back for us is brilliant. Incredible pace and close control and a measured finish.
  6. Tough draw but happy with it. When you look at Dundee and killie getting each other, and how often we’ve drawn the OF over the years, an away trip at a ground I’ve never been to is fine! Always great sentimental value when it’s airdrie. Can’t hear the name without thinking of that match. Would think our tie or Livi’s will be the favourites for a shock, but we’re long overdue winning another cup, so better not f**k this one up..
  7. Not too despondent as we played well at times. Again just no threat up front. Kane and May are workers but we need a different option, not sure we can continue to keep both in the squad. Agree about Costelloe, though I feel he’s only starting there as Wright’s injured and he’s better going forward than Brown. It’s not his natural position in fairness but agree he doesn’t offer much at all.
  8. We desperately need a different option up front. May and Kane both work their socks off and hassle defenders, but there’s no threat there at all. Jephcott has shown nothing in previous games to suggest he’s the answer. Continuing with only 1 out of our 4 strikers capable of getting a decent number of goals, bearing in mind he’s not young and has been a bit injury prone, is going to cost us. Our midfield has great options, keeper is decent and you feel Levein will get the defence well enough organised. With Wright at RWB and Robinson looking decent on the left we’re okay in those areas too. But it’ll all be a waste if we don’t sort out our forwards. I’d be trying to move on Jephcott if we see nothing by the winter break, and May as well come the end of the season.
  9. Done okay after looking like we’d get a shoeing in the first quarter hour or so. If we get everyone fit, you put Clark in for May, Carey for Max and especially Wright in for Costelloe, and we’d be a decent competitive side with a threat. At the minute we’re mostly just competitive. A point here would be a good result, especially with 3 key players out, but could also see us nicking it with a goal in front of the Saints crowd. I know Max is his boy, but I wonder if Levein will be tempted to bring the Strangler on for him to get more of a hold in midfield.
  10. Is this guaranteed? Are hearts renting out the building to a company to manage and therefore have a guaranteed fee? Happy to be corrected by someone in that sector, but I don’t think hotels are a sure thing to make a profit, unless you’re a big chain like premier inn where you can work off small margins on a big scale. Your second point in bold I completely agree with; it’s surprising how none of the three can ever stay ahead of the rest of us diddies for more than a season or two.
  11. I get that it’s to ease fixture congestion later in December (I’m guessing that’s the reason?), but I wonder how many we’ll lose off the crowd for that move? For as long as I can remember, games during December up to Christmas had poor crowds, yet the period between Christmas and new year saw big increases as people are home for the holiday period/ off work and looking for something to do etc. A few years ago we started cramming matches into December and then binned the new year game altogether. Thankfully the jan 1st or 2nd fixture was reinstated and the winter break starts after it. The fixture list is a shambles these days though. You just want to go along to a game at the weekend, with occasional midweek fixtures, yet now you get the stop start pattern like this season: 2 fixtures in October, 4 in November then pack in 7 in the month of December to then take a winter break because everyone’s tired …
  12. Definitely the case. You only have to see the joy amongst other clubs’ supporters on here as we looked to be dead certs for relegation. Expect they’ll all be back if we go on another poor run. Have to say it’s very understated in Scottish football how big a failure clubs like Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts are. With their supports and budgets, for all three of them to win so little for so long is an achievement in itself. No one’s realistically expecting them to challenge for a title or anything, but surely they could stand up to the OF in a cup semi or final once in a while?! Since we’ve been back in the top division, the 15 year non-OF roll of honour is: St Johnstone 3 Inverness CT 1 Ross County 1 Kilmarnock 1 Dundee Utd 1 Aberdeen 1 Hearts 1 Hibs 1 st Mirren 1
  13. Fair play for lasting so long. I watched the first series as it was something different but didn’t last much longer than that. Some of the features were very good; the Arbroath short Wes Anderson film was brilliant, and one of the most original football items I’ve seen. The studio chat didn’t do much for me; never found it particularly entertaining or insightful, and at times a bit cringy and self-indulgent. All about opinions though, and it will hopefully have opened the door for something better in future.
  14. It was. The timing of our wee run has coincided with County, Motherwell and Livingston going on dreadful runs of results as well. A month or so back it looked like we’d be left stranded as everyone else was taking points of each other and creeping ahead each week.
  15. FFS. I just sat through that shite and Hugh Jackman didn’t once cartwheel.
  16. The last paragraph pretty much sums up the bbc reporting of anything non-OF in Scottish football. I never see a bbc article these days that isn’t littered with mistakes. with home substitute Stevie May failing to kill the game as he fired straight at Mitov in the game's last decent chance.
  17. Adding a quality player at either end of the park in January and keeping everyone fit as you say and we could push towards top six. There’s so many poor/ inconsistent sides around that you don’t have to be outstanding to climb the table; just organised, hard working and with a goal threat. Hopefully Clark’s injury isn’t serious.
  18. Called it. A stunning sun-drenched afternoon. A dogged performance low in quality but a brilliant 3 points. Absolutely solid in our defending and a great goal. Defence were very good and thought Phillips had some good moments. Delighted for Carey, must have been quite an emotional feeling with everything going on right now. Nice to see May play his part in the win and setting up the goal. He still can be quality when the game stretches a bit and he gets space to play in. Cracking finish from Carey.
  19. Two goal laden sides clash at a sun drenched McDiarmid Park on a stunning cold clear winter’s afternoon… 3-2 Saints in an end to end classic. Can see the tv pundits interrupting their half time chat at the Celtic and rangers games tomorrow to discuss this, and re-run some of the goals.
  20. I’m actually enjoying the Dundee lads coming at us with the relegation banter. I’m not sure when P&B started, but I’ve never been on here when they were doing better than us and could lord it over us. The site would need to be 15+ years old? I’ve only ever experienced their “fucks sake we’re shite, fed up of this mob” and “Saints fans only come on our thread cos they’re obsessed” chat, so this is quite refreshing. None of us know how things will pan out* between the sides, but at least we should get a good laugh with our rivals from down the road for a season. *
  21. No complaints, Motherwell were positive in the second half and deserved their point. Once we scored the first, we played decent for the rest of the first half but as said higher up, we were far too passive in the second half and did nothing to cause Motherwell any problems. Thought Max got us on the hall and higher up the park after Well equalised. ThTs two in a row we’ve started well, gone 2 up early but allowed teams to creep back into it. Would be great to be able to kill teams off. Disappointed not to get three points, but small steps, and it’s now two unbeaten with a chance to get off the bottom next match. Good to see us play proper football matches again where we are competitive snd actually attempt to score a goal now and then.
  22. Right, we’ve just taken 3 points by playing an uncomplicated system that gets the best out of our players, each playing in a position they’re comfortable in. With 2 strikers. Don’t feel you have to come in and be clever, or put your own stamp on things straight away Craig. 4-4-2 and let’s dinosaur the f**k out of this shower.
