  1. Finishing higher 16 consecutive years is a long run between two similarly sized clubs. And if it weren’t for Dundee’s financial doping it might have been longer.
  2. Not sure why Motherwell fans are upset about that article, there’s nothing untrue or critical in it. Bair was terrible for us. He came into a struggling side, started badly and never recovered. I’ve never known a player get so much support for failing so badly. Everyone was desperate for him to do well, but he genuinely looked like he was playing football for the first time. It’s great how he’s turned it around with Motherwell. He’s a young lad in a new country who seems like a decent person, so its good to see how well he’s done. It’s fair to say the attention and expectation were much lower at Motherwell and he benefitted greatly from that. Scoring in his first game got him off to a great start.
  3. This is the reality. It’s easy to think we should be releasing and upgrading everyone, but we’ve got to make a realistic pragmatic decision on who we can improve upon, and if not then might have to keep. We will likely need to keep some players who maybe the consensus about is they’re as guilty of our poor performances as everyone else. The one thing in our favour is we will be freeing up a few decent wages of players who haven’t contributed a great deal; Crawford and MacPherson, and you could probably say May and Kane for this season as well.
  4. You’re probably putting that more politely than we deserve. Other than the last 10 minutes of the first meeting at McD, and the first 10 minutes or so at Dens, Dundee have been the better team by a long way this season. Blind optimism makes me believe it’ll be different this time around, but then reality kicks in and it’s hard to see how, as Dundee just look a better side in midfield and up front than us. Still, there’s always a chance we go ahead and shitfest our way to the points, which I’d be absolutely delighted with right now.
  5. Again, I wouldn’t compare Phillips to those players impact or ability wise, but how do you progress play when the players around you are completely incapable of doing anything with the ball? I regularly see Phillips show great skill to keep the ball in tight areas drawing in 2 or 3 opponents before finding a teammate with space to drive into who invariably does nothing with it. Granted Phillips does give the ball away at times but I think that’s partly because he always wants to find a teammate and possibly holds on to the ball too long looking for a pass. But yes, Saturday past he was poor. Matt Smith I agree on. I have seen very little from him other than very occasional moments of skill. Do Saints fans on here rate Smith on a par with Phillips? That would blow my mind! But all about opinions as they say.
  6. Correct Tam. The point was judging some players on their goal involvement doesn’t give an accurate indication of their contribution. The three mentioned were all top performers for us in centre midfield, none because of their goal or assist record.
  7. That’s a bit disingenuous though isn’t it? Chris Millar was an attacking wide player in his first few seasons so his goal ratio was higher than when he moved to centre, where he gave us his best years but famously went ages without a goal before that winner against Utd late on (he scored 3 in his first 2 seasons then 1 in the next 6 or so). Morris played a season or two in the division below where we were winning and scoring far more. McCann did have a decent record with us goals wise but I wouldn’t say that was what his game is about. He’s usually a starter for Preston these days yet has scored 1 goal in 86 matches. If you want to go down that route, Blair Alston scored 8 in 80 matches and Ali Crawford scored 5 in 44 but Craig Bryson scored 0 in 29. Yet who was the better player for Saints out the three?
  8. This P&B St Johnstone thread invention that centre midfielders have to be judged by goal contributions is a bit bizarre to me when arguably our 3 best centre midfielders of the past 15 years have been Morris, Millar and McCann. No huge surprise Phillips is leaving, I’d have liked him to stay personally as he’s probably been our best outfield player the past year. Would have liked to have seen him play with better players around him and in teams not set up just to defend, but all the best to him.
  9. You definitely should. We’ve sung “you’re going down with the Dundee” at so many clubs over the years* it’ll be a laugh hearing it back at us. * just about every season for 15 years Just checked, 28/12/73 your last trophy win, so at least we’ve still got “fifty years, you’ve won f**k all” to enjoy. With all the postponements at Dens this year, at least Dundee fans won’t be as critical of the horrendous state of our pitch as most other supports rightly have been.
  10. Since Levein took over we’re 2 wins out of 2 against County, and a win and a draw v Aberdeen. 2 draws in both games v Livi under Levein.
  11. Head to heads will be crucial. Don’t suppose it matters much by the time they come round,, but our record against County is W2 D0 L1 and against Aberdeen it’s W1 D2 L0. Should get both at home on our tattie field .. not sure if that’s a good thing.
  12. Lucky to get away with 3-1. Poor day for us but not unexpected. In fairness, we’ve been lucky with the results of the teams around us for ages and it wasn’t going to last forever. We’re probably lucky we’re not even more in the shite after that recent run of 1 win in 10. All to play for now though..
  13. We were doing okay until Sprangler went off and have been woeful since. Absolutely wide open and Celtic cutting through us at will. Three big CB’s on the park and the 5’5” striker is the only one attacking the ball. Sidibeh needs to do better. A thankless task but he’s not once got us us in possession further up the park, he’s just being brushed aside. We ended up a bit of a shambles the 15 minutes or so before HT.

  15. FFS lads. Really? We’re now going to be upset about some harmless national stereotyping? So the Swedes and Norwegians shouldn’t wear their jokey plastic Viking hats, Mexican fans can’t wear sombreros and we shouldn’t wear kilts and c u jimmy wigs and hats because they’re all reinforcing national stereotypes?! Next you’ll be saying beautiful women shouldn’t follow Brazil and England fans shouldn’t throw plastic street furniture around.
  16. Football doesn’t really work that way though does it? When an opportunity presents itself most manager’s know they have to take it as it might not come round again. Seems unlikely, but this might be as high as he goes as a manager and in 6-7 months time Dundee fans might be wanting to get rid of him if things turn sour. If Aberdeen feel he’s the man they’re not going to be thinking we’ll leave it a bit as he might be out of reach the next time they’re in the market. He knows the club inside out, is popular there, tonnes of experience of the league as an assistant and proven over the short term that he’s manager material. He is by far and away the obvious choice for Aberdeen.. which is why I don’t think it’s going to happen.
  17. +1. If a chance of winning the Scottish Cup isn’t the highlight for any non-OF fan in Scottish football, then I don’t understand.
  18. It’s what happens when people’s normality is shifted. Supporters of two shite yoyo clubs who are massively over-achieving this season leaves these types spiritually lost. They feel they belong on the big relegation thread, but can’t adjust to it not being about them.
