  1. The only tactical switch I’ve ever disagreed with from Coyle so far is not sticking with Williamson and Murray up top. Even if Williamson doesn’t score, he makes the players around him (Savoury and Murray especially) play so much more fluid and threatening. The guy has made an incredible step up from Cambuslang and looks more than competent at championship level. He plays ahead of Kenny every time for me until Kenny shows something notable at all
  2. Aye surprisingly for number 27 (Jarrett) that was only his very first start in the league. He’s barely even had minutes off the bench either, definitely earned his spot for next week after last night Was expecting Scott Allan to be involved at some point, especially when it became 1-1. Unfit ? Or just been generally rubbish ? Think Hamilton look most in trouble for the drop this season. Arbroath at least have some character throughout the squad, whereas Hamilton look woeful in all aspects on and off the park
  3. Derek Gaston is still an unbelievable keeper at this level. Still mind when he was at Albion Rovers years ago and he pulled off the best save I’ve ever seen live from a goal bound header from Paul Quinn I’m sure? Probably what Gaston was referring to in his tweet after last nights save
  4. You think? I thought he was excellent last night and was one of our better players. Constantly involved in our attacks and set up the opening goal and nearly got a second assist with a lovely ball to Murray which Gaston provided an unbelievable save. He’s been terrific for us this season overall Arbroath certainly looked a lot better than the fixture in august. There just seemed to be a lot more fight about youse this time but whether the quality up top is there to get you away from the bottom 2 I’m unsure still. Linn looked decent and Gaston was brilliant. The huge guy in midfield looked all over the place though
  5. I’m trying hard to not fully rule him out but he was utterly dreadful when he came on. Didn’t look interested and his touch was all over the place Don’t even think we should of subbed Murray in the first place tbh
  6. Frustrating result. Thought there was enough to get the 3 points but a world class save from Gaston and a goal that wouldn’t look out of place at Sunday league level cost us. Feel for Bannon, he’s a huge talent for 18 years old and he still absolutely starts for me next week but it was a horrible goal to lose. He’ll learn from that Pat Jarrett and jack thomson were excellent but Mal Boateng was a class above in midfield. Get him signed up in January please ASAP. It’s hard to not feel deflated after that because we weren’t actually that bad at all. We were more aggressive than usual and we tried to do the right things. We just didn’t get the breaks. We’re still in a really positive place regarding the league table but there’s no denying how difficult the upcoming fixtures are
  7. Fair enough. Changes are definitely needed but I just wouldn’t want to mess the team up so much to the point where we look entirely disjointed. Honestly I think the only changes we need are getting Eze and Naismith out for Davidson and Bannon. Davidson has obvious flaws defensively but he was exposed so badly against Morton due to having a complete nothing player in McPake in front of him who provided zero cover for him. Savoury is excellent defensively for majority of the time and his last ditch header against raith exemplified that. Kilday over the piece has been decent this season and he’s covered a lot for Eze’s poor positional sense. Mid table championship is Kilday’s ceiling. He’ll have really good games and then the odd time, he’ll have a howler.
  8. Savoury may of been rubbish last couple games but I’m definitely not at the stage where he should be dropped. For me, you could argue that he’s been our best player this season. Need our best players out for this particular game, especially when you look at who we’ve got afterwards. Who would you play out wide instead? McPake, Moore or longridge? Moore probably the best candidate to replace him at the moment but this game is massive in terms of stopping our poor form. Defensively, yes massive changes are needed
  9. What an incredibly odd signing Naismith has been. Really decent pedigree across his career and aye maybe had a bad spell at Killie but I was going into the season thinking he was gonna be a nailed on starter. I do think he’ll be one of the better paid players also. I get the impression that the management have seen him in training and realised that his legs look gone at full back, especially for the type of football we are trying to play Unlike Eze who’s played a decent number of games now to bed in, I’m willing to give Naismith the benefit of the doubt at this stage considering it’s the guys first ever start for us. However I would consider playing him centre half in future
  10. Maybe an opportunity for Pat Jarrett to play soon? I actually thought he looked very impressive in the league cup but he’s barely featured in the league which is surprising. I’d even be tempted to use Louis longridge in an advanced midfield role centrally for particular away games. He’s not got enough pace to play out wide anymore but he’s silky enough on the ball and gives that wee bit more experience, particularly in away games
  11. I wish him all the best at Morton as I do with any other player that leaves and he’ll always be a part of the double promotion winning squad but he was so poor last season. Gave the ball away an incredible amount and put us under severe and unnecessary pressure throughout games. He was great in league 2 which you’d expect but the standards dropped significantly in league 1
  12. We may have been bad yesterday, but to think Grant Gillespie would of inspired the midfield is wild. If only he inspired the midfield at any point throughout league 1, he wouldn’t of been released without fuss
  13. It’s not specifically results based regarding the low away attendances. Of course we’ve got a naturally smaller support to begin with but having to attend 60 mile round trips for all home matches is pretty hard going and for some, it takes its toll effort wise and from a financial perspective to fund that every weekend is hardly ideal. Fortunately I’ve been able to attend pretty much all games bar yesterday but for some that decision to go to games is probably taken out their hands due to club’s continuous incompetence. But aye, just go tell them to try harder and they’ll attend Type of attitude you’d expect off the old firm there
  14. The way we’ve been defensively across the season, that type of result was always coming at some point. We’ve got some excellent footballers and when things are going well, they’re a joy to watch but naturally in football that won’t be the case for every game and unfortunately in our case when the attack isn’t firing, we look an absolute car crash at the back. Coyle’s football has been incredibly entertaining for large points this season but it’s admittedly easy to get frustrated at the set up of the defence when things aren’t going for you in attack because of how easily exposed we get. I think the bedding in period is well and truly over for Stephen Eze. He’s a liability. He’s got no presence despite his height, his positional sense is wayward and he’s just getting pulled all over the place. I’d be getting Alex Bannon in the starting until Fox is back. The guy has been faultless when given the opportunity. Wasn’t at the game but from what I’ve read and heard, Jason Naismith’s legs aren’t there at all. From the brief glimpses I’ve seen of him, he does look incredibly short of pace so it’s no surprise a right side of him and Eze got so exposed I seen a couple of comments regarding us being overrated. I can’t say i’ve seen anyone say that we’re this wonderful, perfect team at any point this season, even when we were winning. Yes, we have played very well at points and they have deservedly got credit but I can’t say I’ve seen many say we’re better than an Ayr, Thistle or Dundee. We’re not going to be the finished article in our first season in the championship. It was inevitable that a few bumps in the road would occur. I’d say for our current position and squad of players, 4th place would be fairly reasonable? Also the lack of fans comments from a couple about us is just poor. I feel like at this level of football particularly, you shouldn’t be having a pop at those that attend or can’t attend games, particularly in the cost of living crisis. The club have totally screwed us all up with the stadium nonsense so it could be accepted that a lot would pass on away games Also can we use our ‘vanity project’ and ‘Gretna 2.0’ money to sign Akinyemi please. Absolute baller and easily best player in the division. The complete striker for me at this level
  15. I’m sure I read on Twitter when McPake joined that there’s a recall option in January. I’d imagine if things aren’t working out at that point, activating that option may be the best option for both parties. Still plenty of football to play until then to prove me wrong still which I absolutely hope he does I was actually buzzing when we signed Kenny on loan. The aspect that particularly excited me was that he had a full season in the Irish league prior to Celtic with Sligo Rovers and hit double figures at 18 years old. He genuinely seemed like a potential star by their fans. So he’s obviously got the ability to play at 1st team level but he’s shown nothing so far to suggest he should be starting any games for the foreseeable
  16. Don’t shoot me down in flames here but can we ask slightly more thought provoking questions in the post match interviews? I always feel for a guy of Owen Coyle’s personality, we should be asking a lot more in depth questions and in last night’s case, try get a deeper understanding into his reasoning to tinker with the formation and personnel. That’s not me saying grill the guy, it’s just to try get more of an overall insight into things That’s not a disservice to the guys who take time out to do the interviews. I just always feel he gets asked a couple of vague questions and then swiftly it moves on to “another tough game next week against…” and that’s the end of it And before anyone starts screaming that they’re only volunteers. Yes I do know they are volunteers. It’s just a pointer for future interviews
  17. Dreadful from us last night. Can have no complaints about getting nothing from the game. For the first time this season, we looked the less hungrier side and I’ve no idea why, it was such an opportunity to go top of the table and set us up really nicely for the Ayr game. Morton are obviously frustrating with time wasting etc but it honestly doesn’t matter cause we just played right into their hands. Confused as to why Savoury was moved into the middle when he’s been outstanding on the wing all season? Fair enough dropping Kenny but you’ve got to play Williamson if that’s going to happen. He made such a difference when he came on. McPake hasn’t done anything remotely impressive so far. Can’t really beat a man and his passing is all over the place, deservedly hooked at half time I just want Charlie Fox back in the team ASAP, or at very least until he’s back, give an opportunity to Bannon or Naismith. Eze was terrific against Raith but he was ropey to put it lightly last night. Easily bullied off the ball for Morton to go 1 v 1 in the build up to Morton’s corner from which they scored from (how many corners have we conceded now?). He just looked all over the place for majority of the game. I can’t help but get the fear with the guy a lot of the time Only Mal Boateng and maybe later on in the game, Jack Thomson get pass marks. The rest were just incredibly poor but to put into perspective, we’re 2nd in the league and to take 16/27 points from the first quarter is really good going so far. Fair play to Morton, they harassed us the entire game without tiring and hit us on the break countless times in the first half. Muirhead was terrific up top and I don’t think he really lost a header. Some reaction from the thistle game
  18. Probably the most confident I’ve been all season for a game. However, I don’t think it’ll be smooth sailing as the championship has proved to be incredibly unpredictable. I had a similar feeling of confidence going into the cove game and that was a hard watch in the latter stages of the game. A similar outcome would be desirable though
  19. Surprised Grant hasn’t really done it at Clyde so far. Always thought aerially at QP, he was incredibly dominant and I never seen him misjudge bouncing balls. He’s a 28 year old who should be at the peak of his career but unfortunately has the legs of a 40 year old Just seems like from the outside that injuries have totally wrecked the guy and seems to be now impacting on his performances at league 1 level pretty badly. A real shame
  20. I think if you asked anyone who has the slightest knowledge on Simon Murray as a footballer, a poacher would probably be the last thing you’d associate with him Murray is well worthy of the worship amongst our support. He dragged us to promotion, giving me and probably many others, the best moment supporting qp in around 20 years of me going to games He’s now quite rightly the captain and playing the best football of his qp career. Easily one of the most likeable players we’ve had at the club
  21. Aye I’m not sold on Kenny yet. He was really poor yesterday and struggled with the physicality of the match. Would have Williamson starting on Tuesday instead of Kenny
  22. In hindsight, i find it hilarious Thomas didn’t play a single minute against us in the playoffs cause of his pre contract. Could of been a whole different outcome with his influence on the pitch. Even weirder cause he was listed on the bench for you those games I’m sure ? Mental he was joining us even if we remained in league 1
  23. I really enjoyed that win today. We all know we can be silky and easy on the eye when things are going well but we showed a different side to our game throughout different points of the match. There’s no denying we were slow to start with and we got away with a superb strike from Stanton coming off the post but we settled down and from then on, we looked the stronger team. Brilliant to see Eze’s height finally put to good use from corners. Realistically he should of scored a hat trick but it’s really encouraging that placing him on top of the keeper proved to be successful. Credit to savoury and Thomas for some consistently excellent deliveries also I’ve honestly no clue how raith didn’t score right at the death but it seemed like it was some vital blocks from Kilday that saved the day. I’ll give MOTM to Eze. After a slow first 10 minutes, he dominated the raith attack and his anticipation to win the ball was excellent. I’ve been wary of Eze’s performances so far but he was genuinely outstanding so fair play to him. Dom Thomas was also fantastic on the left yet again. For me he’s the best winger in the championship. He’s entertaining, his range of skills is cut above and he works his backside off for the team. Outstanding signing for us Raith looked a bang average team. They weren’t necessarily bad but as they’re probably well aware, they are so powderpuff up top. Stanton was decent and Macdonald made a couple great saves but other than that, there wasn’t much else. The big striker was awful and Mcbride was his usual useless self. Dylan Easton continues to be one of the most detestable footballers at this level once again with usual diving antics and then crying when fouling others. He’s a terrific player but thankfully we marked him out the game for the majority of it
  24. If you said to me a year ago that Liam Brown would be playing league 2 football the following season, I’d of thought you were on something. First 3/4 months of last season he was exceptional for us and I genuinely thought he was on his way to potentially play in the top flight in the near future. However, something changed and Laurie Ellis really didn’t help with his development. Instead of playing him as the advanced midfield (easily his best position), he started playing him in the holding midfield role and sometimes bizarrely he was punted out wide. A combination of playing out of position and poor results seem to impact his confidence and despite being fine for the rest of the season, you always got the feeling he could of impacted games a hell of a lot more than he was showing This season, we’ve just generally upgraded our midfield options and unfortunately the system we play has no real slot for Brown to play regularly. He’s still very young and got another year left on his deal next season so hopefully there’s a future still at qp if he performs well. If used properly, he should comfortably be the best player in league 2. He’s incredibly intelligent on the ball and uses his body very well. Probably just needs to add goals to his game
