  1. Aye looked good mate. Not ready for the first team but would be a good addition to the 20's at this stage.

They've been a bit thin on the ground recently and have been using a few academy boys.

Bear in mind that every year we sign some of the academy boys to play for the U20s and hopefully push for a place in the first team. This year will be no different.

  2. That's Kevin McCann confirmed as away on Twitter. Surely ranks up there with Toufik Zerara, Mehdi Khalis, Kenny Deuchar and Iain Flannigan as the most pointless signing ever.

He was signed to cover Aaron Muirhead as at the time the big man was only one booking away from suspension. (as per Peter Houston in a press interview)

I suspect that had McCann showed up well, he would have been given an extension before the end of the season. As it was he got injured shortly after signing and has barely featured since.

  3. Can't find anything online about the length of Paul Watson's contract

Nor will you. The club are being very cagy nowadays about announcing contract durations. Nothing was specified on the website when he signed.

..... though he volunteered the information in his very first Falkirk TV interview!

  4. What's the story with Liam Dick? Can't remember if he's on loan or not?

Is he good enough to potentially replace Leahy? Or at least get the opportunity to make the position his?

He's on loan to Stranraer and his contract expires in the summer (the duration was announced on the website January '13 when he got an extension).

It seems reasonable to assume he'll be leaving us. I would say Tony Gallacher is a better prospect and that in time he'll replace Leahy.

  5. Do we know when season tickets go on sale? Would hope there would be something about this soon to encourage some of the part-timers.

I'm pretty sure all the staff are off today as there was a do at one of the local hotels last night. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an announcement about season tickets tomorrow though. I know there are a few announcements in the pipeline, though I'm not privvy to the timings.

  6. Aye, when we brought him on against raith, Both me and the auld man thought it was such a daft substitution, he played great and pretty sure he set up the equaliser. He was fab on Friday night as well. Hope he continues this

He set up the equaliser against Raith and also the equaliser against Hibs, given that it was his cross that Gray headed to Leahy for the thunderbolt. He's also played well in many of the U20 games since he came back from Brechin. Scored a few too.

It will be harder for him to break through next year with Austin added to the squad, but at least he's in the mix again. Whereas earlier in the season he seemed to be well out the picture.

    Well done Scotty.

  7. These kind of events are an absolute nightmare for clubs to try to organise to be fair. The playoffs are great for football at this level and I'm delighted that we finally have them but they are an administrative nightmare. Particularly for clubs that don't print their own tickets (I'm presuming Falkirk do). We print our own normal match tickets but for big games which need specific allocated seating we need to outsource the printing. For a playoff game beyond the first one it's a nightmare and I've every sympathy for the staff at Falkirk trying to cope.

Last season we got 8,000 tickets printed for a potential playoff game v Hibs in case we knocked out Rangers and had to shred them after being edged out. Had we won the tie they would have been on sale the next morning for a tie taking place three days later. We had worked out a scheme to give season ticket holders a short buying period of exclusivity but it was far from ideal and was going to mean them having to come in and buy on a Monday morning (working hours). At least your second leg being a Friday night meant you were able to buy at the weekend. We played Rangers on a Sunday with the next tie to be played on the Wednesday night. And we'd have had to sell the away leg tickets as soon as that was passed too. It's a crazy period especially if your club isn't over-endowed with admin employees. I don't know to what extent it's true of Falkirk but we rely on a lot of volunteer assistance to work matchdays and sell tickets, etc. Almost all those people have other jobs weekdays. So if Falkirk were just trying to get tickets sold as quickly as possible then I have an awful lot of sympathy for them!

Good insightful post SD. Two of my friends are unpaid volunteers who work in the club shop. Both were selling tickets today and one of them works an insane amount of hours for the club. The other is an elderly lady, probably of similar ages to the old woman who works in your press office. (she's lovely BTW. I always enjoy coming to Palmerston because of the friendly welcome she and her daughter / colleagues always give us. No other club offers the press homemade chocolate cake and empire biscuits. )

I think the Falkirk management were caught out by the demand today. They'll learn from it, should we ever be in this position again. Which hopefully we won't be as we'll be in the top half of the Premiership next year. Fingers crossed.

  8. FFC tweeted a short time ago that 800 tickets were sold today for the Easter Road game & that there's only 1500 tickets left for Fridays home game.

4,500 sold for Friday so far isn't too shabby.

If we're still in the tie after Tuesday night - which I think we will be - those tickets will disappear faster than the famous Alan Stubbs treble.

  9. Did they also start fist pumping at winning nothing?

The fist pumping was done at the direction of the photographers. We shouted at them to give us some arms in the air stuff because it makes for a better image.

It's a fairly standard pose when taking pictures of sportsmen. Has nothing to do with arrogance from the Falkirk team.

Another standard pose is Hibs fans looking miserable, particularly at Hampden. I've had some great poses from you guys over the years. Thanks for that folks.  :thumsup2

No doubt I'll get a few more for my collection on the 21st.  8)

  10.

Any Falkirk Fan that goes to watch Scotland isnt a Falkirk fan, how can anyone support the representive team of an organistion that goes out its way to screw us.

Utter pish. A few of us will be in Prague later in the week. We've all been watching Falkirk for more than thirty years, from the days of the old Second Division and watching teams like Clyde take six off us, yet according to you we're not Falkirk fans?

  11. Are you saying we are signing this guy?

No. I have no idea whether we're signing him or not.

The club simply don't like names being made public, though they invariably come out anyway. Over the course of this season, I think the only signing we've made who wasn't named in advance on an online fans forum was Paul Watson.

  12. I don't understand the need to play 2 development games a week and there seems to be a different team playing each week.

These are games which were previously postponed. I can't be bothered checking, but I think virtually every week between now and the end of the season has the development side planned to play on a Tuesday, hence the need to play two matches to catch up. (Next week is an exception due to the first team playing at Paisley)

As for different teams, players like Smith, McHugh & Hippolyte will be needed for the first team squad at the weekend, which is why the team is always different (i.e. younger) from a Tuesday to a Thursday.
