I think there might have been other, more important factors at play apart from his David Brent impression, yes.

Was nothing wrong with the speech at all for what was the biggest game of all of their lives. Maybe if they got cuffed 5-0 after it, it would be embarrassing that he said he didn't see them as underdogs and basically felt they could win if they believed in themselves.

Wow what a performance from the team last night , we were immense all over the park and deserved that victory , our performance didn’t surprise me theirs did but I couldn’t care less about Aberdeen we are in last 16 of Scottish cup with a chance of getting into last 8 but as daft as it sounds Falkirk will Be harder tie than last night as we will be expected to win

Congratulations, a well deserved night for the likes of yourself who have put so much into the club over the years through thick and thin. An incredible performance.

Good luck keeping a hold of your manager now and a few of those players though.

You'll be shocked but the top 3/4 teams in SAFL will hold their own in the Premier division of this new set up. Regarding the rest of the safl teams it will be competitive for them playing the lower level clubs in the central league. I've watched both over the last 5 months and the gap isn't big.

Plans for new set up shown below. image.png.0360edf66e6ca2a3720c844832bd24ef.thumb.png.81308bbced30c043f4386b7c5d834bd6.png

Time will tell. It's ok competing in one off games (like Neilston v Bannockburn) to competing every week. Look at Goldenhill they were top SAFL team for years and folded after struggling to make the cut in the Central.

  4. I'm not sure how this helps the SAFL clubs at all. The vast majority of them will not be competitive in the Central League and this is likely to cause teams to struggle to retain players even more.

It's no surprise the Greater Glasgow League is the afternoon league that is thriving the most at the moment in terms of numbers (it's because it's a competitive league).

SAFL would have been better looking to merge in with The Caley and/or Greater Glasgow imo.

I'd say they are all suffering significantly but the west is affected more simply because it has more clubs and more leagues. The simple fact is that the numbers are declining every single year and will continue to do so. It is logical to merge the leagues in the west as they are covering similar areas but the problems of clubs disappearing will continue regardless. Over 40% of clubs gone in the past eight years (and the decline will have gone on for years before that). Continue at the current rate and we'll lose another 200 clubs over the next 8 years and be down to just 300.

200 clubs in the east in 2014-15 in six leagues. 119 in 4 leagues now. 40% of clubs gone and the Churches League no longer part of the SAFA (the two Fife leagues also merged).

437 clubs in the west in 2014-15 in 13 leagues. 249 now in 8 leagues  43% of clubs gone and Glasgow & District Sat Morning, Paisley, Lanarkshire, West of Scotland, Dumfries leagues all gone.

116 clubs in the North of the Tay region in 2014-15 in three leagues. 65 now in the same three leagues. 43% of clubs gone.

85 clubs in the Aberdeenshire League in 2014-15. 59 now in the same league. 30% of clubs gone.

The stats are very similar for every region (Aberdeenshire lower but only one league covered). A few clubs have already folded this season and we're only in November.

    Great post.

The numbers are decreasing across the board but the Saturday Morning League in The West is thriving. The issue and answer is staring everyone right in the face.

There needs to be more flexibility around kick off times and even days if these leagues want to be viable going forward.

Presumably any non Caley or Central clubs can apply to join too?  If, even, e.g. a handful of SA clubs switched that could have a significant impact in itself by weakening that league. Once one goes then it can gain momentum very quickly and other clubs may apply e.g. Greater Glasgow Prem. We shall see but it would be so much better if all Saturday pm leagues got to together and sorted this out.

Merging the leagues doesn't solve the fundamental issue that a lot of boys don't want to give up their full Saturday afternoon every week now to play football (unless they are getting a wage for it).

I don't know if this is the death nail for Gartcain but I can see Gartcairn continuing their good work and I expect they will get their SFA license this season. Seen them twice already and quite impressed and with a management and coaching staff of Mick Dunlop and Nicky Devlin and the rest of their staff, they will be there or there abouts at the end.

Watch this, they will fecking flop now 🤣🤣🤐🤣🤣

Not a bad shout looking at the result yesterday.....

Rossvale are pretty much gone already.

Been very quiet on this front.

Does anyone know how the meeting of the disgruntled Caley clubs panned out.

    Who cares?

I suspect any team that doesn't want to get on board with the new project will be left behind.

The clubs in Caley and Central who don't fancy it could possibly join in with the SAFL? They are desperate for new teams.

Personally don't think anything shall save Saturday afternoon football too many lads wanting to go watch the football. After COVID everyone's priorities has changed not enough boys willing to put football before anything else commitment levels are at an all time low with so many clubs folding ..... Friday night football for me is the way forward!

Flexibility around kick off times is certainly a massive thing. As you say, if you could play games on a Friday evening then it would be massively popular imo.

Either they amalgamate by choice soon or they'll end up having to amalgamate through lack of numbers years down the line. Scottish AFL down to just 15 teams (had 50+ in 2015) and Stirling down to just 11 (40+ in 2015) look like the next leagues to struggle badly. The two Saturday morning leagues in the west have already merged meaning they've already lost Glasgow & District Saturday Morning, Paisley, Lanarkshire and the West of Scotland League from the west alone in the past five years. Midlands League up north looks to be on its last legs too.

Yes the Saturday Afternoon game is dead on it's feet. The biggest issue is societal changes and attitudes, combined with less numbers also playing football these days also.

The morning leagues are thriving, the afternoon leagues need to look at that and ask why?

Perhaps being a bit more flexible with kick off times / days would help as well. The over 35s and U20s are thriving playing Friday night games.

Bottom line is a lot of guys rightly or wrongly don't want to give up their full Saturday afternoon to go and play football nowdays. It's different for guys making a wage out of the game (WOS) and the top amateur teams who are competing for trophies every season.

I think amalgamating and regionalising is a great idea - allow teams to play local and against teams at a similar level to them, and I think more flexible kick off times would definitely help also (even allowing a 12pm kick off rather than 2-3pm).

  11. A lot of rumours doing the rounds regarding leagues amalgamating for next season, apparently The Central, Caley and Greater Glasgow. Anyone heard anything?

Top 6 from Caley Prem and Central Prem would form the new Super League (if you like) with divisions underneath with all other teams. Not sure if it could possibly be regionalised as well with the number of teams potentially involved?

Some clubs would be happy you would imagine but others not so much. Will be interesting to see how it pans out but I think there needs to be radical change particularly for the afternoon amateur game which has too many leagues for the amount of teams playing in small area.
