The NC500 is made up tourist pish but the areas it goes through are stunning,it's just a shame that this once hidden gem of Scotland has been marketed to oblivion, almost totally ruining what made it amazing in the first place.

I've never,to my shame, been to ardnamurchan, slept in Skye or the island off the north coast of Skye,is it raasay?perhaps should make this the year to go to these places

You better get a move on if you're going to do it in just over two weeks.

  2. With us taking part in the opener, it means we've got an extra rest day than Switzerland when we play them which can only be a good thing imo. Looking further ahead (I know, I know) if we win the group, we'd have an extra day on our opponent and two days if we finish in 2nd. If we finish as one of the best 3rd place finishers then we'll have either 7,8 or 9 days to prepare (either 2 or 3 days more than our opposition) although we'd up against a group winner.

    You're right.

Away qualifiers were pretty much all shown for the 86 and 90 World Cups.  The famous Wales qualifier at Anfield in 77 was also shown live, as was our clincher in Belfast for 82.

SD is the same age as me, which is older than you are. He's havering here.

I can also recall watching Euro88 qualifiers away to Ireland, Belgium and Bulgaria live too.

And one of the sacrifices of lacking disposable income is the loss of 'luxuries'. The right to watch Scotland play live isn't a basic human right. Hell if you're more than 25 years old you should be able to remember when NO Scotland games were live at all unless we made the World Cup Finals or Euros.

Pretty much every major sporting right has been sold to subscription broadcasters now. Outwith the Government's "protected event" list there can't be much of any importance that's still on terrestrial tv. I don't really get the indignation about our games being on Viaplay. Particularly as I don't really recall the same indignation when they were all on Sky, which is FAR more expensive to have. Maybe I just missed it but I think that has much to do with Sky being largely seen as a "normal" expense these days and Viaplay is a frustrating annual charge on top. It's ultimately not that expensive though. I took it out because of the Scotland games and would cancel it if Scotland's games move away from it but for £70 per year or whatever it is I get all Scotland's away games (home ones are irrelevant as I'm at the game), and as a bonus get other nations qualifiers and some Viaplay Cup ties that at least interest me. It's probably working out at a fiver a game.

The voices of dissent here are largely because England and Wales games ARE available free, not because ours aren't, and there are niche legislative reasons why Welsh games are. If about 25% of us want to start speaking Gaelic regularly maybe we'd get the same.

I'm 48 and I can remember the 1986 wc qualifiers against Spain, Iceland and Wales being shown live along with both legs of the Australia play off matches. You'd need to be well over 25 to remember no qualifiers being shown live.

I'm pretty sure you are correct on that, but I recall us switching a League Cup tie with Rangers from Boghead to Hampden in the 1990's.  Whether this game could be switched to somewhere like St Mirren Park or Firhill I don't know, but I imagine that may be outlawed too.

The attendance was 11k and the atmosphere was dead inside a ground that held over 70k at the time. I think the capacity at Boghead was around 6k then and I thought it would've been better just playing it there. I also vowed that I wouldn't go to any game switched from our place again. It's never happened so my resolve has never been tested but I'd like to think I'd stand my ground.

There's also a fair chance I'll give this a miss anyway. Cannot be bothered with road closures and the mutants that call themselves football fans. Even their Dumbarton loyal flags sicken me.

Leave the bean counting to the bean counters. Winning games is the joy of fandom. This "we're a wee team so hopefully we earn £47 from a big team" mentality gives me the raging bile duct.

Yep. I hope we avoid the arse cheeks altogether. I cannot be bothered with their supporters on a matchday. And the ones I work with will try to make out that our wee team should be eternally grateful for their benevolence even though none of them actually go to games. A winnable game please.

  7. Here's one of the notes I keep on my phone regarding the last time we scored x amount of goals in a game amongst other things. And on another note, Stevie Farrell has now moved up to the 14th longest serving manager in terms of games. He's now one ahead of Ian Murray and two behind Jim Chapman.
