  1. I was stopped at temporary traffic lights this morning. When they changed the cotr in front hadn't noticed them change for about five or so seconds before moving off. He gave me a wee apologetic wave as he started which I thought was decent of him but he then got through when the light was at amber and I had to stop(again.) I was, however, flaabergasted when the cotr behind me overtook me and went through a blatant red light.
I've seen that a few times over the last few months, once with someone coming up from about 5 or 6 cars behind to go through as everyone else stopped for the light changing.

I was behind someone this morning where there are traffic lights because the road narrows to go through a tunnel below the canal. For some reason he stopped a few car lengths back from the traffic lights and you could see a car coming in the opposite direction stopping at the lights on their side. The lights are obviously the type that can sense if anyone is waiting so after a pause they changed and the guy coming towards us came through. Rather than thinking he should edge up to the lights the guy in front of me decided they were broken and drove through the red light. I moved up and about 10 seconds later the lights changed.

  2. c***s in a car park, blazing drunk old bam dressed all in pink sauntering down the middle of the road going into the car park. When I got out the car I heard her shout at me "Here mate... " and then it was just indecipherable words. Could have been happy words or angry, I've got no idea, absolutely out yer bonce on a Wednesday at dinner time though, some life.
I'm going to guess Lidl on Balmore Road. Sounds about right.

Last time I was in there two women were having a shouting match across the shop from two different till queues. They were still at it outside the shop when I was stuck in traffic on my home.

  3. I watched The World At War last year during lockdown and a few others had a similar idea with it being talked about on here at the time. I watched the film Stalingrad recently so decided to re-watch the episode on it to remind me of some of the detail. Quite a few of the episodes left me absolutely speechless and this was one of them.

For some reason I hadn't watched the last episode and watched it earlier this afternoon. The figures are absolutely staggering with 55m dying in WWII (including civilians) - 20m Russians, 15m Chinese and 5m Germans (of which 1.5m died in Russian prison camps). Remembrance Day will be coming up shortly and there will be the usual stuff appearing in the Poppy Thread but for me the whole purpose of Remembrance Day should be for people to remember the dead and recognise the pure folly of war.

If anyone hasn't seen this series (I got it on the Yesterday channel) then I certainly recommend it. It doesn't glorify war, it's not jingoistic, the footage and interviews are incredible and it makes you look at the world in a different way.

  4. Our whole house has been isolating for the past week so I'm hoping this has all blown over by the time I get out on Thursday as I could be doing with topping up and this would drive me nuts.

Once this is sorted though, what's the next crisis going to be? It just takes the media to report a potential issue and the panic buying to start to complete the self-fulfilling prophecy.

  5. Because ex-players, or more specifically, those that have gone on to become coaches or managers, should have more tactical insight than journalists. However, they need to be able string a sentence together and be aware what is required of them reporting on a game. An interest in more than one team would also be good.

  6. Can confirm, due to driving it on a daily basis, that Greenfaulds does indeed exist. It is the last station on the line westbound before it splits either towards Queen St, or via Motherwell/Hamilton towards Glasgow Central. Pretty much in the middle of an industrial area, I think.
Whifflet also (unfortunately) exists. An area of Coatbridge with an unsurprisingly high percentage of Celtic fans in its populace. Got a cracking B&Q though.
What is your option now, via Shotts and change at Bellshill?
I can also confirm the existence of Whifflet as I used to go there in the summer holidays. Well, my grandparents lived in the High flats and looked after me and my sister. This was long before the train station or B&Q as the foundry was still there so the highlight was a trip to John Menzies in the town centre.

Anyway, I'm isolating so stuck with trying to get it on MFC TV. This is a game that we should always be looking to win but as we know is by no means a gimme - seen a good few comfortable home wins but also enough of County to know they can be stuffy and carry a threat up front to take the points. No idea but hopefully we can edge it.
  7. Almost. Danson is sent to Scotland to find Nessie. He thinks it's all bullshit but one night he is out on the loch and meets Nessie. The two fall head over tail in love with each other. Danson invites Nessie to a oceanographer's dinner dance. Some of his friends are unimpressed with Nessie and tell him so when Nessie is out of earshot. Danson dumps Nessie who goes on the rampage and destroys Glass-gow and Edinboro killing thousands of people who look like Groundskeeper Willie. Danson is sent by the head oceanographer to calm Nessie down. Nessie says she is very sorry. Danson wants to get back together but  Nessie fears another broken heart. Danson goes back to America, a broken man. The final scene is Nessie frolicking on the banks of Loch Ness with her babies, all of whom have human Danson heads. Fin.
I'd watch that. Sounds a lot better than the actual film (I've seen it but can't remember the story).
  8. Got an ex colleague who applies for various jobs, gets the interview (one even flew him down to Leicester, hotels food etc for 2 days), he then gets made the offer then rejects them as he never had any intention of taking the job.
He sees it as getting his name out there and just politely declines.....its utter madness?!?!?!?! i explained to him you are just wasting peoples time and that those companies will NEVER want to touch him with a bargepole ever again, but he thinks nothing of it.
Does the company he works for not catch on to him going to a lot of interviews? They probably can't do anything about it if he's taking annual leave but it surely doesn't help his future prospects.
  9. I was going to head through to this for my first Ross County game since we were in Motherwell in March last year. Unfortunately, Cross Country appear to have gotten rid of the 45mins direct train from Edinburgh pre- and immediately post-match. I don't much fancy 1hr 32mins via places such as Greenfaulds and Whifflet that I'm not sure exist outside a Scotrail timetable.
From what I've read about Motherwell's fans worries about having to take the game to someone, I think 0-0, which County will be delighted with.
1hr 32mins for a train from Edinburgh to Motherwell! That's bonkers. You might actually be quicker getting the train to Queen St. and walking to Central or Argyle Street and getting a train back to Motherwell.
  10. Not just about you though is it, they need to promote the game a hell of a lot better than they do to get decent deals in tv and advertising, like it or not, that's how business should be done, what business goes around saying their product is shite, and hope to sell it, they'd soon go bust.
Gerald Ratner tried it. As you say, didn't work out too well.
  11. They were talking guff but on this occasion I don't have a great problem with them prattling on about Celtic. They had already brought live coverage of the Dundee Derby, they only had updates from Ibrox (which is why I was listening) and were covering the Celtic game. They could have talked about Livi a bit more obviously.
