We don't have a particularly good record against Aberdeen under Kettlewell. We haven't beat them in the last 6 and the 1 draw was a game where we chucked a 3-0 lead. The vibes are not good in that respect.

That said, I agree that this feels like the sort of fixture where historically we'd pitch up under Robinson, Alexander and even that one time with Hammell to completely blindside them and mug them off.

I mean, it'd be nice if it happened like - each and every one of these is a good laugh:

I was thinking earlier today that, for an international break, it's surprising the thread hasn't seen clips of previous wins over our next opponents (Aberdeen in this case). Well played.

  2. I hope all goes well with the scan and whatever treatment they decide on. You've got to look after No.1 when it comes to your health, no messing about with the spine. No-one is looking for a refund, I'm more than happy to have donated to a very worthwhile cause and I'm sure everyone else is as well.

I saw a wee clip on the BBC website this morning - probably best you're not doing this!

See some questions being asked on twitter around why Barron is in the Scotland squad over Miller, not really sure what the reason is other than "Rangers" but also wonder if it is literally only due to Barron being that bit older and maybe Clarke preferring to let Lennon keep playing in the 21s albeit that would be contradicted by the likes of Doak being present.

The difference with Doak is we have much less in the way of options up front compared to midfield.

I think a longer term “rebuild” project is what we are looking at now, with Clement’s comments about not having a magic wand and his recent extended contract.

It seems like the board are putting faith in him to oversee a cost cutting exercise initially with a view to a longer term aim. Whether that comes to fruition I’m not so sure.

No magic wand? Is it not a magic hat that's needed at Ibrox?

  5. I'd echo the thoughts of a good few of the St Johnstone fans, I don't think there was much between the sides and at half time I thought we had go the goal and then dug in.  We weren't really closing down and seemed happy to sit and protect our shape.

We came out and had much more of a go at the start of the second half and I thought a lot of that was down to Watt being more willing to push up than Robinson but he might just have been getting more support. I thoroughly enjoyed the second half as it was wide open and entertaining with both teams going for it and I didn't think we could particularly grudge St Johnstone on their equaliser and I thought a draw would have been a fair result.

Obviously a very late winner was brilliant and we'll no doubt end up on the other end at some point this season but it was coming to an extent because of the relentless pressure in injury time. Strangely this was the heaviest pressure either team had exerted in the full game.

I always think there's not much between most of the teams in the league and it often comes down to those with a steady defence and a goal scorer. We just need to work out how to get goals from our forwards and I'll be more confident but I think we have enough about our forward options to at least be entertaining this season.

I was only getting to occasional games at the time but I thought that Townsley and Twaddle rampaging down our wings was a hoot.

Yeah, long balls down the wing on the break caused havoc. I seem to remember a game at St mirren in particular where they kept pressing their defensive line up to half-way only to continually be caught by long diagonals. Once Townsley got going he was some speed and I thought he was unfairly maligned, we just needed to learn to play to his strengths (not high balls). Twaddle had a lot more trickery about him which probably explains why he had a much more successful career.

With Docherty just signing a new contract (unsure how long) The McCowan fee will be peanuts compared to what the board accept to allow an approach for him....I hope.

I don't expect him to leave but with managers, it tends to be the club he's going to buys out his contract (or come to an agreement) rather than a transfer fee - I doubt you're paying Docherty as much as that.

    Anyway,

    1. Gray

    2. Naismith

    3. Clement

    4. Cowie (although I think Gray's replacement could leave before him).

To put that in context as a graphic.

    lineup.png.835b1b68a744024c4a2a8f5eb1ef8474.png

    Injured:

    • Blaney
    • Koutroumbis
    • Slattery
    • Paton
    • Callachan
    • Stamatelopolous
    • Nicholson

As @Stevie Kirk mentioned it leaves us with a squad of 28 (assuming Ferrie, Wells etc are being loaned out) of which 7 are long term injured.

Which if not ideal still feels...fine given we know we're not going to be seeing Slattery until December at the earliest and reading between the lines the likes of Paton, Callachan and Nicholson are going to be out for longer than that.

I mean, generally you'd expect a normal squad to be around 24 - we're carrying 4 over that.

I'd echo @Handsome_Devil in saying that I'd have liked to have added a centre mid but tbh I'd be entirely fine with us holding off and looking at free agency in that respect. Like, if Ryan Jack finds someone willing to pay the money he's looking for then I, for one, would happily have Ally Gorrin back.

Do we know if Maswanhise or Tavares can switch wings? Pace on both sides can be a huge asset.
