  1. There's an awful lot of ifs, buts and maybes being bandied about. Let's just wait and see what the situation is at 5pm on Saturday. Things should be clearer by then. I suppose the same line up as last week will start (another maybe) going by the old football adage of not changing a winning team, or in the manager's mind, not changing a team that isn't losing. But we need to start playing from the first whistle, not wait until the second half to get to grips with the game. Cove will definitely be up for it and I expect a close game with hopefully 3 points for us. Are Cove fans pleased to have got rid of McIntyre as manager and have Hartley back?
  2. Back to the game. It turned out be be more physical than I expected and some of the "tackles" looked like someone was going to get a bad injury. Could've all been prevented of course had the ref had taken more control from the start, but Mr. Lambie proved to be right down there with the rest of the poor excuses for referees that we've seen all season. Anyway, Dundee were on top in the first half but apart from hitting the bar didn't really trouble Gaston. We created next to nothing. Second half we were the better side but had only a couple of free kicks from McKenna that were close, but went past the post or over the bar. A draw was probably a fair result. With all the robust challenges that were going in all over the pitch I didn't expect to see Scott Allen come on as a sub. Some Dee fans have criticised Paul McMullen but I thought he was one player who tried to make things happen for them. But everyone sees the game differently. The electronic signboard is in the wrong position, only half of it can be seen from the home end if there are away supporters in front of it. Should be central under the television gantry thing on the side opposite the stand. Maybe the club couldn't afford an extra length of wiring cable for it?
  3. I'm looking forward to a daylight game again with a big crowd, hopefully great atmosphere and a good footballing game. An important game for two sides who both need to take something from it for completely different reasons. I'd like to see Dundee promoted but not at our expense, I'll be happy if we can take at least a point. Hope the club have ordered extra steak & black pudding pies.
  4. A home win that we've been waiting for for months. Only downside was Hammy's injury that seems like a bad one. I'm sure we all wish him the best for a full recovery. A few weeks ago we were looking like a team likely to be relegated but have managed to turn things round after that dreadful first half against Morton a couple of weeks ago. Amazing what a couple of wins can do. Hilson...what to say. I was kinda surprised that he started but he did what we've been lacking up front for most of the season. Up against a centre half who was almost twice his size he won virtually every battle. He held the ball up and brought others into play, scored a goal and had a hand in the second. He ran and chased unselfishly and for all the good play by others, for me he was mom.
  5. Hetherington is better in midfield than at left back. If Hammy is out for the rest of the season and Hetherington is going to stand in for him he will need to adjust to playing out of position quickly. He did OK last night but the Ayr player wide right had too much space too often. I mean that as a constructive criticism, he played his part in a good night for the team.
  6. Well we've been here so often this season, a good result and optimism goes up a few notches only to be let down again. Hopefully this will be the time when we kick start our season, turn that corner, get a home win and not have to be looking over our shoulder at what other teams are doing. If the manager picks the right team and the guys play as well as they have been doing the last few weeks we can get that elusive home win. But it won't be easy against an Ayr side who will be looking to finish in the play offs at least.
  7. Just like to add my congratulations on winning the cup. Backs to the wall after the sending off but your team dug deep and held out. With the season you're having (much like ours) the cup win will give you supporters, the players and management a big lift, so enjoy it. But I still hope we finish the league above you.
  8. Great result last night, even better because it was generally unexpected. It's been said many times this season, but hopefully we can carry on and get a few more wins in the remaining 7 games and hold on to 8th place.
  9. Had a read of the QP programme. Interesting article by Keith McAllister, conveniently forgetting the embarrassing play acting by Simon Murray when QP beat us 4-1 at Gayfield earlier this season. QP were on the break when Murray when down like he'd been hit with a sniper's bullet, clutching his head and rolling in agony. Seconds later when he saw QP were still on the attack he was on his feet, sprinting to catch up with play. A wee touch of viewing the game though black and white striped spectacles by Mr. McAllister?
  10. Why the f**k was Olusanya ever on the pitch, he should never have started if Ardakwa was match fit. Cannot figure out what the manager sees in him. Dreadful first half performance, Morton totally dominant. Don't know if we were lucky or Morton's finishing was so bad that we were only 1 down at half time. We improved in the second half but not enough to win the game. There could have been no complaints if Morton had won. We dug in and got a break when their keeper fumbled the ball and Ardakwa was there to put it in the net. The ref tried to give Morton the win but big Derek didn't let them and was mom for me.
  11. If we win the last 9 games we will avoid relegation and if pigs could fly my mother-in-law would be a wing commander. We need to score goals to win games. 24 goals in 27 games, less than a goal a game doesn't make great reading. I very much doubt that we will suddenly start scoring lots of goals this late in the season, the team is never set up to be an attacking team. Realistically, looking at the remaining games, I can't see us taking more than 10 points in total from them so relegation is looming large. I very much hope I'm wrong but the management have been making so many mistakes all season that I have no faith in their ability to keep us in the Championship.
  12. Feared the worst when Ricky was sent off so early in the game for what should have been a yellow card at worst. I hope AFC appeal the red card. A point gained but both teams in the same position they were in before the game so no further forward. I'm fed up criticising referees, suffice to say that there isn't a top class referee in Scotland. Good on Leanne Chrichton, at last a pundit who criticised, however mildly, the referee. Thought El-Mahanni should have been subbed much, much earlier. Less said about Olusanya and Komolafe the better. They are quick but that's about it. Am I right in thinking that the only shot we had on target was McKenna's free kick? The only positive to take from the game is that we didn't lose. I hope the board have a word with the manager about his behaviour, but was there really any need for BBC Scotland to show him giving the finger after he'd been sent to the stand?
  13. A point isn't much good for us even though Cove and Hamilton lost, we really needed 3 points. As others have said we were second best in the first half, Partick found spaces all over the pitch but didn't create many chances. We were better in the second half, particularly after the subs, and almost got the win but when you are at the bottom you don't seem to get the breaks. Just when you thought you'd sen the poorest of Scottish refereeing along comes Graham Grainger to knock it down another notch or two. in most other jobs employees are assessed on their performance but it seems that their employers are not interested in anything below the Premiership.
  14. Assume that Stewart will be wide right midfield with Hilson and Adarkwa up front. Surprised to see Hilson start, thought we might have gone with Bobby or El-Mhanni as a wide player.
  15. You've gotta love an optimist. If we get a win on Saturday will it be another corner we are about to turn? How many times this season have we approached corners that we needed to turn only to find out that it was an illusion and we were still on a straight looking for another corner to turn? You will probably have me down as a pessimist but I prefer to think of myself as a realist and as such have to go along the clichéd road of Saturday's game being a six pointer and hope that it will be a corner that we will be at last able to turn.
  16. He was a good man to have in the squad, not outstanding but seldom underperformed when in the team and chipped in with a few goals. Would have liked him to have stayed, he was streets ahead of those brought in after he, Thomson and Low left.
  17. Do you seriously think that we will take 3 points off Partick Thistle, ICT, Queens Park or even Cove Rangers or Raith Rovers in the games we have to play? Have you not been to games? Have you not seen how we cannot manage games where we have been in a winning position? We have been unable to string two results together all season and I find it hard to believe that we will suddenly go on a winning run. I have tried to be positive but the manager's f**k ups since the end of last season have brought us to the verge of relegation and if we go down he should be asked to walk away. What he has done in the past is irrelevant to the here and now. If he can find a way to avoid relegation it will be quite a trick but I fear that when he looks in the hat the rabbit will be long gone.
  18. I guess we got what we deserved from today's game. Same old failings, inability to score goals, little midfield creativity, creaking defence and against a side who mastered the conditions better. Coupled with some incomprehensible refereeing made it a hard watch. Apart from tipping over corners in the first half and losing a goal to one corner, the Rovers keeper (on a go-slow for most of the match) didn't have to make a save, can't remember us having any shots on target. Need big improvement to have any chance of staying up. Maybe once the new signings have settled in little more we will get an improvement. Thought Banks and Hetherington did well when they came on. Dow did well first half but drifted out of the game in the second half.
  19. Tend to agree with Tattie36. Complacency, coupled with losing 3 solid players, after there was obviously a bust up in the dressing room, cost us a dreadful start to the season. Then what seemed like panic signings who were not up to Championship standard ("We will only sign players who are better than the players we have") and crazy substitutions got us in the position we are in. All down to the manager. Regardless of how much we have improved recently relegation is still a threat. We have been lucky to stay ahead of Hamilton, who also seem to be improving and as I've said before we cannot rely on teams around us having losing runs. So whilst we are looking a much better side than a few weeks ago we still have to put a winning run together rather than the odd win and draw. Personally, I do not have as much confidence as others do in the manager but hope that he can keep us in the Championship.
  20. With this new striker are we going to play a 4-4-2 formation? Or 4-4-1-1? Or will we do a Luke Donnelly, sign as a striker but play in midfield? With the weird and wonderful signings, substitutions and team selections we have seen this season, who knows what goes on in the mind of Dick Campbell? Does he even know himself? So many questions, so few answers. Hopefully Toyosi will settle in quickly and start scoring regularly.
  21. Wasn't expecting a cup upset but losing that last minute goal was a bit of a sickener and flattered Motherwell. The ref didn't do use any favours, the pushing and shoving by a physical Motherwell side was allowed and their No. 22 Johnston took a real shine to El Mhanni, he couldn't keep his hands off him even when the ball was at the other end of the park. Adarkwa had another good game, again with little support when he got possession up front. When he had to go wide there was no-one in the box to cross to, same failings as in league games. Was Ricky Little carrying an injury or did he get injured in the game? From where I was there didn't seem to be a bad tackle on him. As has been said McKenna was back to his best, hope he can keep it going for the rest of the season. The new signings have made a difference and we are as stronger side than earlier in the season but we need to stop losing late goals.
  22. If we do have some of the best players in the league and a very good manager then we wouldn't be in the position we are in. But you are spot on regarding winning games, draws won't keep us up.
  23. Well, back to earth with a pretty big bump after the high of last week. We pretty much matched Caley in the first half although losing a goal just on half time was a bit of a sickener. Second half we didn't turn up and as others have said Caley looked sharper and quicker than us all over the pitch. We couldn't find an out ball and again as has been said, resorted to the big boot to anywhere out of defence. Must've been a heck of a half time talk by the manager. With Oakley away I'd like to see us sign a proper right back rather than play about with either Gold or Stewart taking that role. We've never looked the same defensively since Jason Thomson left. We can only hope that the defence that has served us so well over the last few season can regain the form that they had, find a settled midfield and start to pick up more points. I think I've said it before but we cannot rely on teams above us dropping points and hoping that we find some form.
  24. Great result out of the blue on Saturday and good to see the positivity in these posts but let's not get carried away after one win in eight games. Yes, there were good debuts from the new signings. We may be approaching the corner but we haven't turned it yet. We are still 4 points behind Cove and they have a game in hand. So whilst I have criticised the management I'll pass on the humble pie for the time being. Be happy to have my slice should we finish in 8th place or higher but until we put a winning run together I'll stick with the steak and black pudding ones. Hoping for a result on Saturday, taking 3 points off Caley is overdue.
  25. Where the f***did that come from? After all the doom and gloom over the last few weeks, a glimmer of sunshine at last. Hopefully beating the top of the league team on their ground will get us back up and bring confidence to the team. We've all been on about signing a striker and when we do we have defenders and midfielders scoring. Crazy stuff going on, need to keep it going and build on today's result. A great start to 2023.
