Someone on here may be able to settle a recent query I had with some pals. Was he the first player to score for the same club in the Second, First and Premier Divisions?

I would reckon that could well be true, unless someone did it for Clydebank when they had consecutive promotions in the mid 1970s.

I'm sure the Pars fans nicknamed him Winker and the Rovers fans called him something very similar.

The old East End was a cracking stadium. Remember going to one of the first Sunday cup ties there in the mid 70s - unfortunately Queens lost 1-0 that day with John Dempster somehow clearing the crossbar from the middle of the 6 yd box. Grand day out though.

Much as it pains me, I agree with you on it being a cracking ground. The atmosphere was immense under the shed on the north side, especially in the dark where you could hear, but barely see what was on the other side.

The noise cranked up when the teams used to emerge from separate doors, rather than a tunnel, in the main stand and had to trot down the steps on to the pitch.

We actually used to win an odd game or two through there when it was like that.

My brother was at that. And still fumes at the refereeing injustices to this day.

I can't remember an awful lot about that game, other than the fact United must have won as they played Motherwell in the final.

If you want to talk about refereeing injustices, fast forward a few posts to the photo of Moyes and Watson re the 1991-92 league cup semi.

During lockdown everyone made impulse buys, for some it was easy to justify upgrading your power tool collection.

At least that Dremel would become useful sometime, alas...

There was a wee incident in Still Game involving a Dremel, although it was somewhat overshadowed in the same episode by Boabby's video.

Keeping the theme of players giving the 'v' on the park................

......Billy Bremner, one of 5 Scots playing for Leeds United in the 1975 European Cup Final in Paris. The others were David Stewart, Frank Gray, Peter Lorimer and Joe Jordan. Another Scot, Eddie Gray, came on as substitute in a match in which Leeds felt harshly teated by the French referee.

I recall watching on TV, and thinking Franz Beckenbauer was getting away with an awful lot of influence over the officials.

There's an absolutely brilliant series available online and on YouTube called Leeds United the Wilderness Years.

It starts with that game in Paris and charts their subsequent decline. I won't give too much away, but there's one episode of absolute gold (possibly episode 8) where the referee is standing in the centre circle on a microphone telling fans to clear the pitch as he isn't going to abandon the game.
