I’m sorry your talking out your rear end , I too are disappointed especially since I went to Brechin however it’s not John Mcglynn squad and look what he was left with a team with one winger no natural right back , midfield in tatters due to an Imbalance and injuries what’s he meant to do he’s stuck with the guys he’s got. Also Arbroath are having an incredible season with no injuries can you imagine them without Bobby Linn, Gavin Swankie and Tam O’Brien missing for up to 8 weeks think you would find they wouldn’t be 13 points clear for starters.

I wouldn’t say I was a huge fan of Mcglynn coming back but certainly he can’t be blamed for our current predictament and if we were in as good as position as last season Mcglynn would have had us playing in the championship  this year 100% . IMO the blame lies with Eric Drysdale and Alan Young regarding there numerous poor decisions which have put the club back years

Blaming  the Rover support for the anything and everything to do with the clubs woes

    Appointing Gary Locke as manager

Loaning out Lewis Vaughan to our rivals

Not signing a Goalie when they had plenty of time to do so in regards to the Ayr midweek game

Appointing Barry Smith as manager when his record was horrific

Keeping Barry Smith this season when he blew the league last season whilst in a great position

You missed out the signing of a 37 year old on huge wages who hadn't played any meaningful football for 3 seasons and was physically incapable of playing 90 minutes in Scotland's 2nd tier.

    Yeah, that's option A chief.

You're right though; take the money and run. Unless you win on Saturday (tbh not all that unlikely) then you won't get a bigger crowd for the rest of the season.

You're probably right as our play off game against you in May will likely be televised on BBC Alba so that might trim a few off the gate.

  3. My best memory of Laidlaw, like most other Rovers fans, was the 3-2 win at Easter Road in the cup. Aside from the 3-3 Cowden game, I remember him having a shocker against Queen of the south in a Friday night BBC Alba game at Starks Park, then dropping a routine catch at the feet of a Dundee forward in the last minute of the New Year game that same season, which cost us the game.

I'm still not convinced, however, he was any worse than Lee Robinson whose clean sheet in the Ramsdens Cup final overshadowed some horrific displays in the league.

I’m still not a fan of artificial surfaces and won’t hide it.

Ours my be of a higher standard than some others but we have been training on plastic up at a Michael Woods for 3 seasons and in that time I feel we have suffered more from injuries than we ever used to.

Correct me if I’m wrong but there are no artificial surfaces in the English Prem or Championship, I wonder why? I also heard recently that the 4 big Dutch teams are donating their European takings to subsidise the Clubs in Holland with plastic to replace with grass again.

Alex McLeish bemoaned that after the Livvi game all the Celtic boys were “tight” when they last reported for international duty, not the first time we have heard such like.  Hammys and groins seem to be very much the in vogue injury.

Every SPL manager has slated the artificial surfaces up there, ours may be of a higher quality but I wonder what those managers would have to say about it if they visited?

Lastly much is being made about the £40,000 from the Fife Elite deal but is that over 1 season, 2 or more? Not that it matters a jot as that money surely has to be going into SP Properties to repay the outlay cost.

If lower league clubs in Scotland were earning similar television revenues to those in England, they could possibly afford high quality grass / hybrid pitches (I'm sure Celtic Park is hybrid). As for McLeish, Gerrard and Rodgers complaining about Livi's pitch - I couldn't give a flying Donald Duck. A deflection tactic to divert attention from the bigot brothers inability to beat Livingston.

We played QoS at Starks on October 29th 2016, the week after we had pumped Falkirk 4-2 away from home. The crowd was 1244.

In fairness that game was live on BBC Alibaba with a 5.30 kick off.

Probably took at least a couple of hundred off our gate and possibly as many as 100 Queens fans.

I know it was a manky day on Saturday, but I was surprised at the drop off in our support. I know the Arbroath game was a top of the table clash and McGlynn’s homecoming, but Saturday was well down on the Forfar and Montrose gates.

The Queens Park game last November was immediately after we were knocked out of two cups and pumped 3-0 by Ayr in the space of a week.

At least we're honest with our gates - look at the Pars highlights from Saturday and tell me there was anywhere close to the reported 4400 crowd.

Was the Challenge Cup not the work of Eric Drysdale?

No, the challenge cup started in 1990 to celebrate the centenary of the Scottish League (sponsored by B&Q at that time, I think). Since then it's had various sponsors, but it's only the last three seasons we've had this farce of allowing Colts and non Scottish teams into it. As I said earlier, it would have been done to try to sell Celtic and Rangers colts games to TV companies. Thankfully that has, thus far, backfired spectacularly, but it's ended with this farce of inviting teams to play in it outwith their own season.

  7. I really hope this is the moment that brings this, now, farce of a tournament to a head.

I fear Neil Cockwomble will attempt to change the date using the excuse of accommodating 'broadcast partners' (Irish TV).

Time to get this back to what it was originally intended - a cup for lower league clubs, or bin it altogether. This farce of letting colt and non Scottish teams into it was a failed attempt to get Rangers and Celtic colts games sold to TV companies, and if they could get them playing Irish opposition then so much the better.

I'm sure I heard on Radio Scotland that Dunfermline were projecting an 8 to 10 grand loss on their trip to Borehamwood last month. I can't imagine East Fife coming out of this any better.

Interestingly, all 6 of the trophies we’ve won in the last 25 years have been with a first-time manager (Nicholl x3, Calderon x1, McGlynn x1, Murray x1). Balance that with the 2 rookie managers who effectively relegated us (Anelka, Heterston) our track record isn’t too bad on appointing new managers although Jimmy Thompson (punted to early) is debatable

With the exception of McKinnon and possibly McVey (punted too early), the experienced managers have been relative dross or failed to keep us up (Dalziel, Scott, Locke, Hughes, Smith, Munro, Nicholl v2.0, Levein,

I agree with almost everything in your post except Levein. Although his statistics / win ratio etc don't look good, I defy anyone who watched us under Dalziel then Levein to say there wasn't a huge improvement in our fitness, shape and style. He certainly gave McGlynn a stronger starting base when he came in, but unfortunately had to work with the likes of Armand One and Sean Kilgannon.

Kevin Cuthbert doesn't like the Irn Bru cup.

    Gie him the job.

He actually speaks fairly well, can talk a good fight. Can imagine he'd impress in an interview on that basis.

Apparently GarriLoake interviews well and that's how the board fell for it hook, line and sinker.

As a fellow Rovers supporter said about Locke interviewing well 'Aye, so did Jack the Ripper, that's how he was let go'.

Are you trying to say that the child won't be induced into a trance-like hypnotic dream-state by the beguiling blend of fluid and majestic football that will be put on display by both sides on the day???

I always found that telling them to watch the trains whilst feeding them pies worked a treat when my kids were that age.
