  1. Not the worst kit supplier to have, they made kits for teams across the UK with the most notable being Norwich when they were in the Prem in 2004/2005. Dundee FC, Raith, and St Johnstone had them as well if memory serves me right. If someone has a match picture of the full 99/00 kit, I'd be rather grateful for it being posted here. Since I'm here anyway, I'm curious about this; white with a yellow/black chestband and full yellow with black details are both staples of DFC history, but which do you guys actually prefer? The yellow hasn't been seen since 2012 (probably because the 2011 white with a sash shirt sold absolute gangbusters) but featured for most of the past three decades. So a quick poll, what should the Sons wear? https://www.strawpoll.me/17833030
  2. As have Montrose, to great effect I might add. Unfortunately, not everyone can be a winner and not every story of hardship ends with success. I just hope ours will end with survival this season.
  3. Just over three years since the passing of Johan Cruijff, he'd have been so proud. Tell you what though, I share my birthday with him (April 25th), it's never been the same since 2016. Absolute legend, and it's down to his revolution at Ajax in the early 2010's that the club is where it is now (never mind all he did as a player and manager, both at Ajax and Barcelona).
  4. It's dads, uncles, and older brothers who come into clubs along with young kids putting on cleats for the first time - that gets you such a wide pool of voluntary coaches that there will naturally be quite a few good ones in there, who then go on to older and better teams within a club. Career coaches are really only a thing at the pro clubs, I believe. It's not just football, btw - field hockey noticably benefits from this culture of starting out in coaching by helming your child's team.
  5. Humility should permeate our entire club at the moment, yes, but I'm not about to equate us to the likes of Edusport and the university teams. We haven't reached that level of self-loathing (yet!). Of course the LL has a good few clubs that, for all intents and purposes, are a lot more attractive than BRFC at the moment (East Kilbride, Kelty, the Shire, Gala Fairydean, etc.). but we needn't pretend that every team in the division would be attractive opposition (just like BRFC and Rovers at the moment). I just checked the league standings (more specifically the arse-end), and I'd like to note that my earlier post was in no way, shape, or form a dig at Whitehill Welfare but rather directed at the aforementioned university teams. Should be a little clearer next time, but then English is only my third language.
  6. As resident Dutchman, I'd like to note this is just so massive for our football; our clubs got knocked out by teams from Luxembourg (Utrecht), Croatia (PSV), and half the Balkan (Feyenoord) in recent memory, and it looked like we'd only ever make cameo appearances in the Europa League - we even lost direct qualification to the CL group stages for our champions. Ajax' journey to the Europa League final in 16/17 seemed like the proverbial dead cat bounce then, especially since they got outclassed by ManU in the final, but their achievements this season go to show that, with the right setup and mindset, you can actually stand up to the big boys once in a blue moon. In that light this is not just a watershed moment for Dutch football, but for all small(ish) countries in Europe. It's fan-fcuking-tastic and you'd almost get hopeful they could maybe, just maybe dispatch Spurs in the semi-final - then again, that hope did us in last time a Dutch team got this far (PSV in 04/05, who ran those b*****ds of AC Milan really, really close). Also I'm now gonna bet the farm on PSV winning the 2019/2020 Eredivisie title, because this Ajax team is going to be comprehensively razed to the ground in the summer transfer window.
  7. Although this lethargy might have been enabled by Rovers' woes, it sure as fcuk didn't come undone when our Coatbridge buds pulled themselves up by the bootstraps. Rather, much like with the Clyde admin issue, the blame is on us for letting it get this bad.
  8. I'm sure we wore the Xara kit before the Vandanel, if memory serves we released around the time we played Dundee at Dens in one of the cups. 1999/2000 possiby?
  9. A big, big thank you for @Silverton End for tipping me off, matchworn kit being sold off draws me like a moth to a flame. Real good thinking by the club too, because this should generate a decent bit of pocket change; it did for us when Berwick sold off old tops from matches versus the Rangers with Certificates of Authenticity. I went ahead and asked the club's Twitter if they could maybe, just maybe reserve a kit or two for me, but failling that, is anyone planning on going to the sale first thing in the morning when the doors open at 10 AM who could maybe help me out here? Also, I can't find any record of that 2001 Methode shirt ever being worn by the first team - Vandanel kit was worn at the time rather than Xara. (I love this site; http://historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Dumbarton/Dumbarton.htm )
  10. The real question is whether Penicuik could beat us at the moment.
  11. We could take it up with CAS in Switzerland, but I doubt we've the money for that.
  12. Quit your job, clearly not a place you want to work at Spoilered for browsing convenience; As for the Lowland League being attractive and most support (supposedly) disappearing, I cannot think of a single person (okay, maybe that one Falkirk loony in the Clyde thread recently begging for relegation for the sake of facing some different clubs) who wants their club to play at a level lower than the highest possible. What good is 16 clubs when there's a few absolute duds in there, our ability to attract players shrinks, travelling support is lower, and standard of play is worse? I know it's easy for me to say right now, but I would not give up on BRFC in the event of relegation; however, I could not blame anyone who did, especially after the last few years we've had. All relegated clubs, regardless of tier and country, lose some (paying) support and sometimes enough is enough for long-suffering fans. Despite how not-good our current performance is I see encouraging attendance numbers still, so I like to think and hope the initial drop in supporters through the gates would not be too bad. However, on paper and in practice (admittedly, East Stirlingshire is a small and unrepresentative sample) it is rather difficult to be promoted from the HL/LL and we could well be in for a stay of more than a (few) year(s), in which case you have to wonder what the effects will be. Certainly our chances of escaping relegation at the moment are better than going up next season (if we are to get relegated), so I can once again fully understand why people in this thread and outside of it absolutely refuse to think about it.
  13. Ask and ye shall receive; http://berwickrangers.com/club-statement-3/ Think there were more pressing matters to comment on but I appreciate the board's communication all the same. There simply isn't anything we can do and I hope that will be the end of that. Focus on Saturday now.
  14. If that was the goal here, I'd rather we just 'fess up and resign from the league to save us the absolute embarrassment of getting relegated on the pitch like this. @Aloysius Snuffleupagus Pragmatic for sure, but I/we/the club cannot change the footballing authorities, or their backward rules, or their inconsistent application of them, or Clyde's staff making an honest mistake. The only way we can potentially save ourselves is by concentrating all our energy and effort on the proceedings on the pitch. Ideally we'd win all our remaining matches, but if we really have to finish last, I hope it's by a huge margin (more than 5 points, e.g. you guys picking up points in every remaining match) so we can at least put the unproductive narrative that Clyde fcuked us over to bed. The overturning of the 1-0 might have given Rovers the mental boost needed for that little string of results, but end-season-form on your part would confirm that we as Berwick Rangers just weren't good enough across the entire year - not good enough to save ourselves from getting caught by a club that had John Brogan at the helm for half a season. The less we focus on Clyde, the more we can focus on how bad we are and how to improve; that's the way it should be because let's be honest, if we keep whining about the three points you gained, we'd be no better than Cove (and playing in a lower league than them to boot). Still, for the love of fcuk, I hope we put you to the sword on the 27th and Harper and a 90th minute winner by Newell v. Cove save you in the play-offs. Then maybe, just maybe, we can both start next season with a clean slate.
  15. There is literally nothing we can do, and if we finish tenth by 3 or fewer points, it's because we are absolute gash - across 36 games. It's like with soft penalties being given; you have a great degree of culpability for getting into the position where someone else's fuckup (referee/Clyde) will send you down. Pointing our fingers at your unfortunate backroom staff will only distract from our own endemic toils, and that is about the last thing we want happening right now; after all, the solution to this situation lies with us.
  16. I'm not too well-versed in the minutiae of the club's finances - could it be we simply don't have the money to relieve Harvey of his duties?
  17. I am well-aware of the standings in the league, just wishful thinking on my part. Is it too soon to compare our season to the Notre Dame?
  18. You guys will just throw the game this Saturday, right? Prepping and resting for the play-offs, right? RIGHT?!
  19. Oh well, our time in the SPFL was fun but all good things come to an end.
  20. Plenty of people have been coming to game after game despite the team getting absolutely spanked on most every occasion, so I don't know what kind of extra support JH expects the fans give besides putting on cleats themselves or giving team talks or..... oh.
  21. It's not like there are three clubs with a lot riding on this decision feverishly waiting for a verdict. Oh, and QP
  22. Wasnt complaining or judging, just an observation on my part. If anything more fan engagement is a good thing and I welcome all the new folk! Even if it seems to lead to finger pointing.... so far people have been accused of being Johnny Harvey Johnny Harvey's maw Johnny Harvey's extended family Disgruntled players that were let go this season Disgruntled players that previously played for Harvey Dom the Social Media Guy Dom the Social Media Guy's dad Dom the Social Media Guy's extended family Been a good laugh though, and lord knows we could use a few laughs at the moment.
  23. That's a nice new addition to my English vocabulary, smashing. As an aside, it feels like the number of Berwick fans in this thread has doubled over the past few months, even if they come in for just a post or two.
  24. Insulting and harassing the man is not done and is not something I or any other Berwick fan will condone, but telling JH his performance as manager on the day is utter shite is both factual and warranted after a particularly hopeless 0-3 battering at home versus Queen's Park. Shouts happen and as long as they do not cross the line they are an acceptable and understandable part of football. You can't convince me Johnny would have it easier at any other SPFL club if he brought the exact same record to the table. I will support him and the team before and during a match, but a gutless performance must always incur a guttural reaction lest anyone on the pitch or in the dugout might get the idea that they can get away with giving anything less than 100%.
  25. It took Titanic 160 minutes to sink, from grazing the iceberg to having the stern dip under. We have at least 270 minutes left; another 180 after that but at that stage I give us as good a chance as the passengers had back in 1912. Then again, maybe we all need to channel our inner Charles Joughin; get absolutely smashed and hope for the best; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Joughin
