  1. The Battersbee wifie has a lot to learn about exploiting a vulnerable family member to feather her own nest.  Hannah Moore would have had the NHS pay to transport the poor kid to a luxury hospice in Barbados, accompanied by his extended family.  There's definitely potential there, though.

Where’s the Best place to park ? Thanks in advance

Just head to Wellington Circle.  Get there early and park on the road, or there are a few office / industrial units right next to the ground which people use to park on matchdays (the businesses seem to be shut at the weekend).  There's probably enough parking there to accommodate a normal crowd.  Other than that you could try the Pure Gym / Ikea car park but you might have a bit of a wait to get out after the match.

Hopefully Aberdeen do the business today.

Me too.  Although, as you guys might be aware, it's not completely unheard of for a heavily-fancied Dons team to completely shit the bed in a televised cup match....

I think the tv blackout only applies from 30 July. Even if that’s not right, they could have played this one before all the other games, like Friday night or something. Or play all the other games today.

Fair enough if the blackout doesn't apply.  Sunday 3pm is probably just where Premier Sports have a slot then.  And if you played the telly game on Friday, then doesn't that just shift the supposed unfairness from Queens or any of the Saturday teams, to Dons/Rovers?  I don't think the fixture scheduling works like Aberdeen (or any other team) lobbying the telly company /SPFL to let them play the last game of the group stage so they can get a slight competitive advantage, that may not even transpire as the earlier rounds of matches progress.  I could be way out with that though!

QOS fans (Group F thread) trying to figure out why the Aberdeen/Rovers game (to decide the final best of the runners up places) is being played today and not yesterday along with the other "final" games.  Can any Dons/Rovers fans shed any light on this?

It's on Premier Sports, who have the broadcast rights and can't show it at 3pm on a Saturday.

Is this a "fairness" thing?  With an odd number of teams in each group, the final round of fixtures is never going to be 100% fair anyway, as each group has one team who finish their matches before the other four.

Oh. Apologies. I'm having issues with getting onto the form today for so.e reason.

I mis-read stirlings goal difference (-1) ad Raiths Goal Difference, since they are currently in second. You are right with the goal situation though. Although any win would ensure qualification, a draw with a bonus point would also do.

The results today mean we've already qualified for the next round.  Only a win gets us seeded.  I think.

A small note, while it wouldn't make much difference, a 5+ goal victory would allow Raith to over take Aberdeen for the top spot. A Raith Win would stop both teams from being seeded, as well as a draw.

Wait, what?  If Rovers beat us by two goals tomorrow, we'll both have 9 points and their GD will be +8 and ours +7, so they'll win the group.

Who was the last Portuguese player before Duk to play for Aberdeen?

I feel like I'm forgetting about someone but on the 30th July 1996 we played Olympiakos of Piraeus in a pre-season friendly and ex-Benfica player Samuel Quina, who had played for Benfica six years previously in the 1990 European Cup Final, turned out in central defence for the Dons.

We lost 6-0 and he was never seen again in a Dons shirt.

Friendlies don't count, surely.  And Duk's footballing nationality is Cape Verde, apparently.  If Duk is Portugese, then Simmie is English, and that kinda doesn't feel right...

I have no idea if anyone from either Portugal or Cape Verde has ever played a competitive match for the Dons.

I was struck on Wednesday night by just how dreadful Rob McLean's commentary is.

McLean is the true keeper of the flame for the Archie McPherson "talk louder when something significant happens, without giving any information about what is happening" commentary method.

Enjoying The Rest is Politics with Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart, only listened to the first and half of the second but I think they are good foils for each other despite me not being politically aligned with either of them.

This has been my main non-fitba podcast in the last couple of months.  Other than that and a bit of personal finance and history it's mainly fitba stuff - The Terrace, ABZ football, the Ramble and Guardian Football Weekly (although I avoid the last two when there's an international tournament on, until England get knocked out of course).

  11. Rovers win the shootout so they can still top the group.  Chick Young seemed to think we had clinched top spot at half time, but by full time he'd dialled that back to "the Dons have clinched a place in the knockouts".  I'm not convinced he fully understand how points work, so I tried to work out if we actually had but it made my brain hurt.  I think it would be unusual to get nine points and not progress.

I could be wrong but was Macleod not in the presenting seat on Saturday and I thought I heard someone say something that suggested he would be keeping that role.

I think I heard him say he was doing it for a couple of weeks, after which presumably McIntyre will take over permanently.
