  1. Greig Young never really had a chance at first team minutes last season. We had Liam Dick at left back and then brought in Kieran Ngwenya from Aberdeen on loan, which is why Greig Young went to Elgin. Even at the tail end of the season when we had our injury crisis, he still barely featured because Dick and Ngwenya were two who stayed fit. When we went to Ayr Utd with only twelve players, Young was sat on the bench by himself.

He did come on to play left wing in the latter stages of the last game of the season and whipped in some incredible crosses.

I'm keen to see how he gets on. At the moment, the Rovers have a first team and nothing else. No reserves, no 21s or 19s, so it's difficult to keep a hold of guys like Greig Young who might be on the fringes of the first team but won't play most weeks. First team football is the best thing for him, and I believe he didn't look out of place at Elgin.

He's absolutely fantastic and would be a great fit for you guys. I'm actually really surprised (and disappointed) to see him not given more of a chance at Easter Road.

I put this on the QOS thread after they signed him and, by all accounts, I think he did pretty well at Palmerston and became a bit of a fans' favourite:

"There will not be a better goalkeeper in League One than Kevin Dabrowski. In fact, I'm absolutely staggered he's not at the very least a No.1 for a Championship side. I thought he would go back to Hibs after his spell with us and be their number one by now. Especially after his derby heroics last year.

You know how some players just have a bit of an aura and a presence about them? A bit of magic almost just in the way they conduct themselves? Like a swagger that makes you believe in them before you've really seen them in action. That's Kevin.

He came into us during the Covid season and was nothing short of sensational. He commands his area superbly, he pulls of genuinely jaw dropping saves, his handling is fairly solid and although he's prone to parrying shots - he does it with so much power that he pushes them away from goal and out for throw-ins.

He's a huge character. A bit of a maverick. He'll pull off saves that'll blow your mind, then make a really tame shot look like it was the toughest in the world by throwing himself on it in a mega dramatic way. He's exceptionally loud on the park as well and will happily be a bit of shithouse, winding other players up (hiya Brian Graham, hiya pal).

I absolutely loved watching him play for us. And loved it even more when I met him a couple of times. He's the most gentle, well mannered, polite and lovely big guy you could ever meet. And he just has a huge passion for football and goalkeeping which rubs off on you instantly. You'll probably all have seen his interview after the Edinburgh derby last year, and that is exactly what he's like. A really genuine, and incredibly talented, guy.

After he left us, I spoke to Sons goalkeeper coach at the time about him - and he likened him to Fraser Forster. You can read that - here. He's reminded me of Nick Pope since I first watched him in action for us though. But either way, those are good comparisons to have."

Just pulling this excellent post back up to the top for anyone who missed it first time around when Dabrowski was suggested.

I'd like us to sign more former Dumbarton players just to get more Jan Vojáček scouting reports.

Not after the goals he shipped in our 5 nil horsing of QOTS in April. Pathetic display of goalkeeping.

Ach, that was for Queen of the South. Who can honestly expect their goalkeeper to achieve anything? He'll be grand once he's behind our solid defensive pairing of a teenager from Celtic, and some other c**t.

  4. Proper pace is going to be an interesting new feature. I don't think we had anyone who was properly sluggish (Isma aside, maybe), but who was the quickest player last season?

Willy Akio? He didn't show it much. I'm sure there's an obvious one I'm forgetting, but if not, then you just get into 'normal' paced guys like Connolly and Easton.

Can't say I was impressed by Dabrowski at all when we played against him. Mehmet is far from perfect but I wouldnt be going for Dabrowski over him.

Then again I wouldn't have signed Callum Smith based on last season either.

Well, I'll have to take your word for it.

I haven't seen much League One recently.

Thats the FFP starting to break down the interview videos from Raith TV isn't it?

I wondered if this comment was a little unfair earlier, given they were reporting the planning application rather than just the stills from the video, but they've just rehashed John Sim's "shouldn't we get more Polish folks in here?" so yeah, you're right, that's exactly what they're doing.

I’ve seen Killie have released a few players the likes of Stokes, McGowan, Waters, Robinson and a few others would any take the names mentioned at rovers?

I think McGlynn was really keen on Robinson a couple of seasons back, but we couldn't compete with Killie's offer.

Having just looked there, I'm surprised to see he's only 31. I thought he was at least a couple of years older than that. Less than 1,000 minutes of football in each of the last two seasons doesn't speak to a great resilience, though.

I suspect someone in the Championship will take the gamble on him, but I doubt it'll be us.

I can't find confirmation Hitler was an Austria Vienna fan. I burned my 1939 replica top the moment I read that post, so I really hope he hasn't made it up.

Bayern Munich had a swastika on their badge between 1938 and 1945. Gordon Brown must've been delighted when they beat us (if I'm following the logic of this argument correctly).
