  1. Some one said ayr might have been in for him. I’d certainly take him over Curran
  2. Speaking to a big killie fan in my work who said we’re meant to be in for Greg kiltie on a loan deal. Pure speculation but that would be very welcome. PS, can we stop talking about You know what please. Start a thread on it in the misc section if you’re desperate to get into the workings of the Scottish justice system.
  3. Really good stuff as always. Would recommend to others who like me are too lazy to do proper investigation. Gives good context and info on the parties and a gives a reasonable (if speculative) view on how the arrangement will work. I’m a little sceptical over all of this still; the big question I keep asking is why? Surely there isn’t much money to be made in Scottish football at the best of times, and I don’t quite get the ‘I like how you guys used to have an Irish name’ thing. Whilst having ‘United men’ making up the board in the past hasn’t really served us well, I think there’s some need for retention of guys who know the club and it’s heritage and culture inside out long term Having said that, the model which you describe is one which, if it’s well deployed, sounds far more appealing than what we have had previously and could definitely be successful. We need people who know to make the club work as a business. I also think (and hope) they will be ruthless and completely unsentimental in their approach to running the club and make it clear they won’t tolerate consistent failure or lack of effort/ attitude. From the outside, in the past, there’s certainly looked like a soft touch culture which allowed players to take the piss on and off the pitch (hopefully having a semi competent manager helps with this as well).
  4. I hadn’t heard him mentioned but I would be hugely disappointed if we got players like gomis in. Past it the last time he was here and not an upgrade on Stanton. Also, I know he has his faults but I don’t really get why some people are so down in Aird, his assists tally is hugely impressive
  5. Very nicely put together, but pretty depressing stuff. As well as the duds that were brought in like Barton, Rabbitsch and Loemba it really is disappointing to see players like smith and Robson not repaying the faith that was put in them, don’t know about Allerdice but I haven’t heard that he’s tearing things up. I’m genuinely struggling to remember any good player to come from the youth team after Armstrong etc. Hopefully Ogren will take into account that investment in that bit of the setup could reduce the number of new faces we need to look for every window. I’m certainly far more optimistic about Neilsons ability to spot and attract a better level of talent though.
  6. Given the chance to re-wind would any Falkirk fans have taken Houston back? Is it a case of don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone or thank god you punted? I often think the same about united
  7. Are Qots fans-content to be middling championship fare or is there a discontent amongst fans based on where you could be with dobbie. Do fans think you could be doing much better with such a prolific striker at this level? Qots are such an interesting team, would like to see them challenge at this level but there always seems to be barriers
  8. If I’m being honest I really like this league. I know others will disagree, and I truly want to be out of it, but I’ve never supported United more when we’ve been truly desperate and hopeless. Cup finals are great but I love the cameraderee (is that a word) of walking out of a 1-1 pre season with Alloa talking about where it all went wrong. Plus Neilson offers us s genuine chance of redemption, something I’ve never experienced as a United fan (supporter since around 96).if we win the league it will be a true novelty. I love this club and everything wrong and right about it. As a weegie it’s fuckin great to say to folk I support something different from the norm and to be able to wind up h**s at a moments notice, truly PTBAA,let’s get the win on Tuesday.
  9. Looks like Neilson will look to offload Robson and Wardrop as soon as, given today’s starting line-up
  10. Yesterday was the first time in ages I’ve seen United and felt we were going to win the match comfortably from beginning to end, whether that is more a sign of us getting markedly better or Dunfermline being terrible, I’m not too sure, probably a combo of both. Seigrist looks fine to me, I reckon now he has a few games under his belt and two half decent defenders in front of him he will get better as well, he came for a few balls yesterday and took them well, I don’t really know what he’s done to draw ire. I might start a crowdfunding to get Safranko here permanently, of what I’ve seen so far I think he’s probably the best player we’ve had in the championship. Also McMullan shouldn’t be taking penalties, but he also shouldn’t be scoring headers so I’ll let him off.
  11. Guys please let’s not talk about promotion, I’m very pleased with how things are going so far under Neilson, but we’re two games in and have been here before. We are two injuries from starting Barton and Rabbitsch as a midfield pairing.
  12. Living in Glasgow I actually saw a lot of Barton the season thistle finished in the top 6 and most of the time he looked extremely handy at premiership level. Still think he could grow into a useful squad player in front of a settled back 4, but he looks a shell of a guy at the moment, clearly lacking confidence.
  13. There was a bit of ‘pa-vol saf-ranko’ towards the end yesterday, I’d prefer ‘duh duh duh duh, pav sa-franko’ myself.
  14. Not enjoyed a thread this much since the scotzine incident
  15. Going through twitter and getting a stonk on reading how many people say he’ll get us promoted, must definitely mean it’s going to happen.
  16. Pleased with that, but not allowing myself to get carried away for obvious reasons
  17. I know, the point I was making was that that looked a more promising gig than the United one at the moment so would be surprised if he took us on having turned down st Mirren previously. I also think he could probably get his hands on a premiership job if he waited another month or so
  18. I was referring to his refusal of the St Mirren job when he was offered it, which you must have missed.
  19. I just can’t see it, Unless we are chucking money at him I can’t really see what we offer over and above st Mirren at the moment
  20. Massive week ahead, hoping for an appointment this week and all things considered would like it to be Neilson given his record in this league. Don’t know if the game next week can be called ‘must win’ just yet, but falling at least 10 points behind 2 teams would make things look pretty dismal. Whatever happens, Clark should start next week and Stanton must start ahead of rabbitsch. We need to get in thistles faces as they’re potentially one of the few teams in Scotland who are even greater shitebags than us, hopefully whoever is in charge next week smacks them about the head a bit and gets them going.
  21. I also want to know the situation with wardrop, seemed like a great signing at the time. Unbelievably I thought those two wingbacks would be deployed regularly as wingbacks this season, how could I have been so naive.
  22. The squad, if correctly deployed, is a decent one and is good enough to get us out of this league. We are a joke at the moment, but our name, I believe, still carries enough weight to attract a candidate good enough to get this group of players out of this situation. I think the fact that Thompson is gone will also help. He is the one who had the rep for hiring and firing and generally being a p***k. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of what has been going on at tannadice will be aware of people’s perceptions as laszlo and that no board in their right mind could let him continue (roll on him still being in charge next week). The reality is, we’re 7 games in and 5 points off top, it could have been a lot worse by now. If he goes this week I will still retain some hope for this season.
