  1. Won't we need to run with a very slightly larger squad next season in a better league? Won't we also have a higher budget with increased season tickets, gates, sponsorship, hospitality TV etc?

Off the top of my head the going and unknowns from this season are...

Long - to be replaced by strong

McKay - on a decent wage we suspect

Mcginn - on a decent wage again

Mackie - potentially been offered a contract but rumours also leaving

Tait - everyone would love to keep but if doesn't needs replaced

Ross - again worth keeping and possible contact on table

Allan - possibly doesn't fit plans and style of play so may go

Shanley - I've forgotten if he has a year to go?

Bisland - going back to parent club

    Lawal - probably going

Sorry if I've missed any but there are 10 names on that list. Even if we keep Tait, Mackie, Ross, Shanley that's at least 6 that need replaced and preferably more if we don't want to be short again in a more competitive league.

There's quite a saving on some of those players going so I'm hoping that with a potentially bigger budget will mean half a dozen really decent players coming in.

Strong (for long) and McKenna (for lawal?) make 2.

If Hanlon rumours are true he'd replace mckay in terms of defenders.

The young right back from Cumbernauld probably replacing bisland.

Still quite a few existing players to be confirmed and hopefully another 3-4 new.

Well done lads and thanks for putting the time and effort into this all season.

  3. Without knowing all of the candidates named, Murphy or McCall would make sense.

Murphy has done very well at Annan, keeping them up on a low budget, making them really hard to beat (1 loss in last 10 games).

McCall knows the lower leagues, kept Clyde up from a very difficult position, has decent form with promotions.

Both have close ties to the area and understand the club.

Don't understand some people's dislike for the thought of Murphy as a manager. There's no denying he's worked wonders on what will have been a limited, to say the least budget and has certainly got the best out of the resources at his disposal. That is exactly the type of manager we'll need.I

As for the new board working with and involving supporters and local businesses, I fear that ship has already sailed!

Re Murphy, just looking at the form over the past 10 games, I knew Annans was good but didn't realise just how good.

3rd in the table having lost only 1 game in 10 (Queens lost 4 in the same 10). Some recovery to catch Stirling.

  5. Have just started casually perusing the Championship threads again after 5 years enforced absence. Noticed that they have an attendance thread on there and a couple of fans saying that the Pars will be comfortably the highest attended club in the Championship next season now United are leaving.

I had a look at this seasons attendance stats:-

    Dundee United (Championship) - 8,408

    Dunfermline (Championship) - 5,444

    Falkirk (League 1) - 4,750

    Raith (Championship) - 4,191

    Hamilton (League 1 - 2nd Highest for comparison) - 1,293

Given our season ticket sales will go up and we had negligible away fans this season (next season we'll have healthy away crowds) I think this could be a close run thing between the 2 clubs as our average will jump up.

The Pars will gain a derby with us, but lose a big crowd to Dundee United so unless they have a very successful season I can't see their figures going up much. Arbroath going down and effectively replaced by Livvi won't change things much either.

Yep, you’ve got an impressive home crowd considering how shite you’ve been for a few years and you’ll have the advantage of having four* home derbies with large travelling supports next season too.
Would be extremely surprised if Dunfermline don’t have the biggest average attendance in the league next year.

*If Raith don’t get promoted, obviously.

The Pars average home attendance this season is only 694 more than Falkirk (5,444 v 4,750). This is despite us being a league below with almost no away fans coming along to TFS this season. This 4,750 would put us 3rd in the current Championship behind the Pars and United (8,408). Raith finished on a healthy 4,191.

Think this could be a close run thing between the Pars and ourselves this season coming, especially given our season tickets sales will go up and away attendances will increase significantly.

  7. Congratulations to John McGlynn winning Manager of the Year, very well deserved and delighted for him.

As much as he deserves credit for building an invincible championship winning team, he deserves it as much for what he has done off the field. Since he arrived I have loved the way he has communicated with the fans pre and post games. He always sincerely thanks the fans, you can tell he means it. He always goes into details about what's happened in the games from his perspective, which is both informative and educational. The thing I like most about his appraisals of the games though is that they are passionate, fair and honest.

One of the things I have struggled with at our club (and other clubs) in recent years is the poor communication from managers. Hartley was the worst, he was smug and dismissive, like he didn't want to be at the club. Then you look at the likes of Bartley's trainwreck interviews, deluded, blaming his players, calling the game differently to everyone else.

To be fair there are other really good managers in this league, Andy Graham and Petrie spring to mind but we have the best and are very lucky to have him. It's no coincidence that we are attracting and retaining better players now as they like McGlynn and Smith, the way they are treated and coached,  and like the entertaining way we play.

I hope he continues to build on the excellent team he has already put together and we continue to go forward and upwards again next season as we have the past two under him.

  8. Glad you guys secured safety and ousted your manager (eventually)!

Can't say I've enjoyed being in this league for the past 5 years, and am looking forward to going up, but there are a lot of great clubs and fans in this league, and I'd definitely include Queens as one of those.

Like many I thought Queens would be up challenging this season, but from the early Bartley interviews I was worried for you. Can't believe you finished only 2 points above the wrong play offs (and an astonishing 49 points behind us!).

I genuinely hope you get a decent manager in, better board and have a much better season next.

What an unbelievable season and a great way to mark 20 years of TFS. John and the boys have done the whole town proud since day one and not only was the football and absolute joy to watch, but seeing the next generation of Bairns belting out Falkirk anthems makes me realise the club is in great hands. Being in the Championship is an absolute minimum requirement for this club and I think we can go even better.

By my calculations we’ve got 14 signed up for next season? Have I missed anyone?

    Hogarth in goals

Defenders - Adams, Donaldson, Lang, McCann, Yeats

Midfielders - Agyemang, Henderson, Miller, Morrison, Nesbitt, Oliver, Spencer

    Forwards - MacIver

I think 3-4 top quality signings over the summer would get us into contention for the playoffs.

A lot of really good articles from players in the match programme yesterday, however, the one from McGinn was particularly good. As expected came across brilliantly and his professionalism and attitude was first class throughout the season. What he did say was that he would likely (as expected) be moving on. Shame he was hampered by injury but he's definitely had a positive influence on the park and off it.

  10. As others have said very good highlights.

Thought Andy Graham looked pretty comfortable yesterday (penalty aside), however the full backs were given a torrid time, especially first half from Morrison. No centre backs and McIver having to play at the back really unsettled us at both the back and front (he played well). Having said that it was a makeshift Alloa side too and in the end both sides for different reasons will be delighted with a draw.

Think Alloa have every chance of coming through the play offs, especially with Wales and Steven still to come into the mix. I hope its either Alloa or Montrose that come up as opposed to Hamilton or Inverness. I like both managers and clubs.

    Good luck Wasps!

  11. Brilliant day out yesterday. Brilliant season.

Players typified yesterday what it takes to become invincibles. Playing for each other, being adaptable, never giving in, taking risks and believing they are never out of it.

Nesbitts goal was a cracker (he finished 5th top scorer in league so hats off to him) and Spencers penalty was a thing of beauty especially given the importance of that goal.

Not been mentioned much but the multi ball quick return system we use was vital again yesterday in keeping the game flowing and the pressure up. The opponents don't get a chance to regroup. Really helped make sure their goalie didn't get away with more time wasting than he already did. I hope we use it to as good effect at home next season.

Excited to see what the close season brings with new signings, re signings (Tait), season tickets sales, new ideas for ultras, marketing, TV, who comes up with us, down from above and what the fixture list will be. Some great fixtures next season again.

What a time to be alive....

  12. Great to be going to a last game of the season and just being able to enjoy it without play offs looming for a change.

Could be a high scoring entertaining game today. Can't wait.

Re the comparisons, this team has not only cantered League 1 but taken a few Championship scalps this season, including handing out a lesson to a Dundee United that won the league above. It all bodes well for next season.

Really looking forward to the close season too and seeing who we bring in to an already strong team that know each other very well and how we play.

Maybe reading into this too much, but wonder if we have further injuries at the back the way McGlynn spoke in the pre match interview.

I wondered that too. This has all the makings of a very interesting high Scoring game. Us with makeshift defence, them with an eye on the play offs, big crowd, invincible record,.

iF we score a couple of early goals I think they'll go all out for the 100 goal tally and the crowd will be up for it.

As others have said, including mcglynn we need to take the game to them. I think we may let goals in so attack is best form of defence. Think it should be really entertaining.

  14. Astounded at the new two year contract to Rankin and especially the timing of it. I genuinely thought it was a joke.

Why not at least wait till after the play offs? If he got you up you could just about accept it. If he fails to get you up through the play offs he'll have taken you down, failed to get you up, and then been rewarded with another two year contract. Absolutely mind boggling stuff again from the accies board.

  15. Delighted at the Finn signing. All the signings to date have been great, however he's the one I think has the potential to end up highest in football. And as BPM has stated above great likelihood of chunky eventual sell on.

Reminds me of a young Roy Keane. Really excited to see him in the championship.

I can understand why folk would have stopped going a few years ago. It certainly wasn't fun going to the football and some of the shite on display actually made me start to believe I could have been a player in spite of my total lack of talent.

Hopefully this season has won a few back, I've just renewed my season ticket this morning and hopefully there will be many more new ones as well as renewals to go with it.

I can't get to all home (and away) games due to other commitments so have been paying at the gate when I can go. Despite this continuing to be the case I bought 2 season tickets this morning so that JM has my cash for the close season war chest.

You need to change your username to ‘The Flight Attendant’, I’ve never seen someone count seats as much.

You're not wrong. Its the statto in me. I need help.

Seriously though, very interested in this one as largest ever home attendance at the stadium.

101 tickets left for the home end, 7,117 sold

With our 3 best central defenders unavailable, an entertaining 6-6 draw to cap an unbeaten record and take us to 100 goals would be a fitting end to a great season

88 now. They could well be sold out tomorrow.
