  1. Before my imagination runs riot, I’d rather not know.
  2. Sorry. Just can’t resist shoe-horning that word into a sentence at the drop of a hat. I’ll take your word that Arlene’s footwear measure’s up on the staunch scale.
  3. You’ll be leaving A&E with at least 4 minutes of residual heat. C’mon, glass half full attitude.
  4. Wordle 428 X/6 Good days, bad days.
  5. The political boundaries of the British Isles have changed over the years, but Great Britain is, and always has been and (barring any Atlantis style submersion or dinasour grade asteroid strike) always will be the largest of the British Isles. That may be pedantic, but, whatever, that's the way it is. It's not a country in iself, it's just the biggest of the British Isles. It's a fairly easy concept to grasp. I can't be bothered to check exactly how many islands make up the British Isles but Great Britain is the biggest. 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain' (to which you refer in your AoU) just has, well, too many words. The words 'Great Britain' are in there, I'll admit, but by default it excludes every other island in the British Isles.

  7. Having grown up in Inverness in the 60's and 70's (parents from Dochgarroch and Muir of Ord), well before the alleged influx of Weegies, I consider myself a well spoken Invernessian. Living in the Midlands for a few years and attempting to converse with the locals, an Inverness accent was mistaken for Polish/Irish/Hillbilly by the natives down there.
  8. My first thought was you’ve made that word up, but it so accurately describes Johnson, Truss, Dorries etc. Cheers.
  9. I know this is petty, but would you please stop referring to the UK as Britain.

  11. Absolutely. This forum's full of such examples. Finding that word today has really cheered me up.
  12. You've used it in the wrong context. And that's a FACT.
  13. I knew there had to be a word for this. Thanks Susie. I'm going to start using this word at least once every day.
