No - not advocating such a change but a very valid way of determining who merits higher status

A full season of football is the best way to determine who merits to go up and who should go down.

A play off is effectively a cup final. There is a place for them. They are exciting and bring decent drama at the end of a season. But i think it should be for 2nd place v 2nd bottom.

It's been spoken about on here for ages but EK have a pretty dodgy defence.. if MK is still manager for next season then he's going to have to get that sorted. If one or two other ambitious LL sides fancied having a crack at winning the league then this still might be the time to do it.

Mk and ferry will be chased i reckon.

    EK Dodgy

Serial losers at the play offs.

Probably best described as the Lowland League club. Like Hotel California they'll never leave the LL.

Ground in a public park at the arse of nowhere, must be half a mile to nearest houses. Public transport forget it unless you're up for a serious 30 minute Ghurka style walk, don't try this on a dark winter evening at 5pm in those underpasses btw.

No serious support outside of Clyde Lite fans.

Thats bait, from a master baiter.

Hard to breach? You got a bye in the first round and couldn’t beat the worst team in the big boys league over 2 legs .

Fair point well made. Still dosent take away from the point that the worst team over a season should be straight down.

It's totally wrong. Doesn't make the LL trying to keep the dropout to a bare minimum right, though. it's not impacting Tier 6 too much right now. But once the West gets Licencing sorted it should be sorted out before that happens

So we both agree on the same points. So your lala patter was blowharding then. Fair enough.

Not been to East Fife, though the new rail link makes it more appealing. Dumbarton's a shite stadium but simple enough to get to. Stirling is a bit of a walk, but the town itself is great and the stadium is alright with lovely views. Airdrie has no redeeming features.

I want to get ripped into you diego. But  i have a soft spot for the jags so i shall refrain!

I might be misremembering but wasn't parking one of the concerns as well for the Showpark?

Was more access roads in and out that was main issue. And objections from nearby houses.

Aye, that’s true. There is however, a school across the road from it. I’m not sure what parking facilities it has, but given that football matches don’t tend to clash with school hours, perhaps that could double up?

Theres very little parking there aswell mate. If u pass down that road at 3 o’clock when school run is on its chaos. Doesn’t take much extra traffic and the area is gridlocked.

On the subject of a stadium site- the best site I can think of in East Kilbride is actually a construction site just now for a ground being built by EK YM, on the Kirktonholme pitches, right beside the train station and within walking distance of the village for any decent pubs, and the town centre for, well, nothing really.

I see plans are in place for the demolition of Centre West after only about 20 years, and building of houses on that site- now there’s a vanity project that would put the Keans to shame.

In an ideal world for EK, that may have been a shout. It could have brought more footfall to yet another of Scotland‘s ailing shopping centres in its more modest guise, and landed the club right in the heart of the community, but even with their money, I’d imagine the costs would have been prohibitive.

On a side note, I’ll be interested to see what happens with EK YM and their community stadium. Suspect they may well end up in the West of Scotland League at some point, with EK Thistle’s slow demise making way for them.

There is parking for about 20 cars at most at the ekym kirktonholme site. Its a nightmare to get parked there on a saturday for an amateur game. Would be a total non starter as a site for ekfc. Although i agree the location is spot on.

Yep agree with you on that, it's probably the furthest away and most inconvenient site that they could have in the whole town.

Difficult to see where else they could go with the options available. In an ideal world the community trust would have been able to use the old Rolls Royce factory which was then bought and developed on by Barratt. They also missed a trick with the large plot now occupied by Copart, that at least would have been kind of walkable from the town centre and accessed off Stroud Road and not far from the recently dualled Greenhills Road.

I think it's been determined that redeveloping John Wright stadium would be a no-go in terms of traffic, at least if the community council were hopeful of utilising the stadium for things like concerts & large scale events outside of football.

They owned the land that went from the back of the st james centre all the way to th k woodlands (near tax centre)
This would have been a perfect spot. Good road access into it and the new hairmyers train station is being built right there. Plus a few pubs and eating places close by or by train from village.

But houses now built there on some of it.

Not sure if you know them personally to answers these but why East Kilbride?

Are they from the town? Supporters previously? Or just a club that came available at the right time?

The family are from east kilbride originally.
I think the are trying to leave a legacy in the town if im honest.

They have always been involved in football within ek. Were involved with ekym for years. One of the brothers also had a spell playing with clyde.

They had a team, jackton boys club, who they merged with ekfc, who were an amateur side in the town. There goal from the start was to get a team from east kilbride into professional league. I think they tried to get on board with east kilbride thistle first but that never happened for a number of reasons.

They applied and were excepted into the south of scotland league, but i think this was done as the knew it was a way into the about to be newly formed lowland league.

And so here we are. They have ploughed a serious amount of money into it over the years. I think they will stick with it till they get it where they want it. Tends to be what they do as they have shown with various other projects they have all over the town.

On a side note. The location of the new stadium is terrible. I really hope they have a re think on that. Although central space in the town now is going to be a struggle they need to try and find somewhere more accesable. Matchday experience is everything at this level.

They wern't dominant in the early days had an 8th, 2nd and 5th before they won it for the 1st time in 2017 the season after they made a few quid from the Celtic cup tie it was then they started spending "big".

i seen them in their 1st season and I think it was the same squad who had played in the amateurs the previous season.

East kilbride have always been very competitive every year since the league started. And have always spent more money than most at the level they are at. Should have made it up long before now but haven’t made the right call at the right times and maybe lacked a wee bit of luck thats needed.

They got a wee lift from the celtic game for sure, but it was enough to cover about a seasons worth. To think that was what is driving ek’s spending power now is a wild take.

The guys backing the club are seriously wealthy. And are driven to get the club into the leagues above.

The lowland league has had a lot of very good teams in it throughout the years. Its never been a cakewalk to win right from the first season. As the teams that have went up have shown.

Not to mention the good longstanding clubs that went the other way.

Its also not easy to escape if you have been relegated into as im sure you will agree.

There isn't any narrative. Just wondering how many more attempts they would fund the challenge. Although I expect them to finally achieve the promotion this time. It must have cost a fair whack over the years. This is the eleventh season for the Lowland League and EK have put in a serious challenge for most of those seasons. There must be a point where the losses are too much, unless they get into League 2 or above and get some of the cost covered. Or are they multi millionaires? I assumed MK was chipping in as well whilst there, but they have been spending long before he arrived.

That narrative comment wasn’t directed at you pele. You are a decent poster.

The guys putting money into ek dont need anything from mk. Trust me.

I know that dosen’t suit your narrative, but hey ho.

money has been spent like this at ek since the club were formed and long before mk was anywhere near the place.

  15. 1 hour ago, PELE said:

Serious question. If you don't get up (I think you will), do you think the club will cut back on the spending? Is it mostly MK putting his hand in his pocket?

Mk isn’t spending a penny at ek.
