Noone from that direction of the country.

It may fall through if they think it'd going to cause a problem

At what point would anyone in the right frame of mind think that signing wouldn’t cause a problem?

  2. Congrats to spartans. Part of the lowland league foundations. Solid team throughout. Many may have thought the ship had sailed for you guys after a few close calls.

Brilliant to see yous make it.
    All the best.

That’s what I thought John, you are usually spot on with stuff, it sounds like this is someone stirring up shit with a non story.

Would need to be bonkers to sign goodwillie after all the negative press pw. Would be a clusterfuck of a decision to bring him in.

When you say confirmed, where from?

Im far from being “in the loop.” But i usually hear about alot of things before they become public knowledge. This must be a piss take. The club wouldn’t go down that road. And i hope to f**k the new management team wouldnt be daft enough to even consider it.
I can say right now, as a fact. If that is a road they were willing to go down, i wont be back.

There was definitely an element of pretence among their fanbase. A number of SPFL fans including myself were having this same conversation on the Kelty thread (guessing 3-4 years ago maybe, don't fancy searching back frankly) because a few of their fans were suggesting on here that their "brilliant set up" was the reason where they were and were indeed going. It wasn't. They were heavily funded (which is fine!). The money they had was invested very, very wisely - on Championship and League 1 players. As you say, it's easy to get the great dressing room atmosphere when you're outspending the rest of the league and winning games.

Again, I must repeat this point a further time, I have absolutely no issue with clubs spending money to be successful. I (and others) are simply pointing out that it's only when fans/managers pretend that the money isn't the reason that it gets a bit irritating. And I'll say again, we say it from experience of having had the benefactors around our clubs at some point.

FWIW being based in Glasgow, assuming we're not going the other direction, I would love it if EK came up. The more games local to me, the better!

We have also signed players from leagues above and we are still struggling in lowland league.
But i take your points on board.
Hopefully mick can get us moving and give you that local “away” game you are after mate.

No, that would be absolutely great if we had a sustainable benefactor involved, I'd love it! But I wouldn't be pretending that the success that followed was because of a managers dressing room atmosphere or nice training facilities. I would admit - we are going up the leagues because we have someone throwing more money at our club.

Again, I am sure the facilities and the atmosphere at Kelty were brilliant. But the reason they soared through the leagues wasn't because of that - it was because they had large financial backing. I have absolutely no problem with money getting teams up the leagues. It's fan's pretence that the money isn't the reason that makes people shake their head.

I have never once seen a kelty fan on here with there eyes closed to the fact that money was driving them through the leagues. Money helps create the enviroment that you talk about. And that enviroment no doubt helps.
its not easy to go through the leagues like they have. Even with mobey being flung at it. It needs to be spent wisely.

My own club are testament to that. Spent fortunes and are still where we started.

    This.

It was the same when Kelty were firing up the leagues. Fans constantly claiming it was about the "environment for the players", the "great facilities" etc. All the while ignoring the wads of cash being thrown at players signing from two divisions above. No issue with clubs showing "ambition", but just be honest about what "ambition" actually is. Most of the fans of other clubs that are passing comment on this (including East Fife) have went through the enjoyable but often short lives ambitious phases. I'll be interested to see how Kelty fair now that the source of their "ambition" is heading over to Raith Rovers shortly.

The notion that clubs need to be honest about there “ambition” is bizzare to say the least.
Surely every clubs ambition is to be as good as they can be. Money or no money.

kelty were backed well. Spent the money they had wisely and progresed through the leagues. But this somehow annoyed you because the money men never came on p&b and declared they were minted.
They did create an enviroment for there players, and there facilities for the level were good. I dont see why that would be a problem for you?

If someone on the board of your club won the lottery and decided to plough it into your club, would you be happy with that? Or would the added “ambition” not be for you?

I think it's been said already but it's not so much that these type of clubs are well backed that gets people's backs up, it's when they kid on that's not the reason behind their success. Not a pop at EK as I'm not often on here so can't say if your supporters are like that or not. But when you read the drivel that Darvel fan keeps spouting you can see why folk have a go. "Kennedy can sell a club": I'm sure I could sell a club that pays the best wages as well. Let me know when he gets a gig at Albion Rovers or Gretna and can bring in players "who just want to play for him!!!" there. Utter nonsense.

I honestly think if he went to albion rovers tomorrow, he would be able to put together a squad that would improve them. His contact list in the game seems to be very decent. Ive no doubt he would improve a team at the bottom overnight. Thats just my opinion. Could be miles off. Guys do want to play for him. In not daft. I know money is a main factor to most. But he does seem to be a draw for players money aside.
just think its harsh to label him as a money manager. He is well thought of and thats why he has ended up at clubs with wealthy backers. Thats the way it goes.

Ps, you wont need to be on here much to gauge the opinion of the ek support. Theres about 4 of us.😁

great man manager and will attract some standard of player to the club , brilliant appointment from East Kilbride

He takes alot of stick on here. Most of it is the green eyed monster type of stick right enough. No doubt, he is a bit flashy. And has alot to say for himself. But i dont mind it. The guy just loves football. And fair play to him, he comes on here and has his say when he feels the need to. I’ve played against his teams when he was in the ametures. He was the same then. Just wanted to win. And most of the time he did.
he has always had the money thing flung at him. Even when he was at colville. Guys getting paid for every goal they scored and all that shite. There was probably a wee bit of truth in it. But not the arms and legs it grew to.
One thing that is for sure though is he is a fantastic man manager. Boys want to play for him. He creates an enviroment that guys want to be around. He has shown that all the way through. The core of his side at darvel came with him from colville park.
He is undoubtly a gamble at this level. And it could go tits up. But the appointment has got me perked up more than most other options.
Cheque book manager is the cry. And what? Is he meant to set his bar at the relegation hopefulls? He is a decent manager. Thats why he is getting touted at clubs with money.

i,ve no idea how this will pan out. And knowing ek it will probably end in missery. But feck it. Its been some ride so far.

    Best of luck mick.

Not at all John, I was referencing the fact that EK have the resources available to allow MK to attract the players to which he has become accustomed to signing.

You can remove your tongue from your cheek now my friend😁 i get what you’re saying.

Ferry and his entourage would make it an even bigger circus.  It's all about the attention though.

Yeah thats what its all about. That was the main criteria the ek board looked at. Who will bring the most attention as next manager? Tadger.

Agreed, but it won’t happen, the club seem transfixed by getting “big name” managers.

They will do well to hold on to him. He is well thought of at the sfa. He will end up full time there.
