  1. I heard we still had budget to spend, that's why I said it, very limited pool now though, loanees from Premier clubs who want more wages covered than we would possibly want, This has been done to death on here, over the summer, but Rhys has had a poor window again "only signing players that will be better than we have". Or " only signing players that are of the right attitude and can be developed and improved". Massive difference on the mantra is it not.... In saying that, i think we have a lot more full time players than we think , are Spalding, Fellows, Cassidy, Watt etc full time, we are running a reserve team as well this season, which will not come cheap, players wages, coaches, travel etc, The big question is should we have went down that route this season, should all the finance be forced into the first team for survival at all costs and think about about it for next season when we are a more established championship club, one thing I will guarantee if things go Pete tong this season, them the reserve team will be scrapped anyway, no chance that expense can be run by a L1 club of our size..
  2. We all love a scapegoat, McCabe this week. Is it, he was poor who got pass marks. ???? , We all know the centre of defence is painfully slow, we needed an upgrade this season we didn't get it, backup centre half Cassidy is miles of it, so it is what it is.. I don't get the McMaster, McCabe debate, although they cannot play in the same team, McCabe has far more attributes than McMaster, we need Telfer back fit for more options, actually our biggest problem is in the final third, scoring goals keeps you in the league, Gall most of this season is playing as a false 9, relying on advanced wingers with pace, McGregor and O Connor are ok but not championship level, that's fact.... we are the worst in the league with shots on target , we need to change it up, why sign Todorov and only give him 15 mins and say he is pish as well, he needs a run of games is a proven championship goalscorer... We are in the start of a tailspin there is no Clyde, Peterhead, kelty triple headers to get you out of a slump, we have 2 weeks left of the backstop final last minute loan deals, we have been waiting on quality signings all close season, surely we need to prop this squad up with something..
  3. Come on play the game, we go away get deservedly beaten, you say we play good football, and it will massage our ego again... Go on be fair
  4. Airdrie surprisingly playing it safe, no option but to go longer, need Todorov and McGill up top second half, , big half ahead this will show what Airdrie have in the locker....
  5. For me McCabe is an automatic starter, as a leader, goal threat etc, he brings so much more to the table than McMaster who is a modern day dot to dot footballer, good player at what he does.. unless of course ATS doesn't make it and Rhys slips into the defence... As you say McGill continues to toil badly, he has been caught out technically in this league and our style of play now doesnt really suit his reckless style, for me magic on the right and McGregor on the left both can switch as required... I am going for a Desmond in this game..
  6. Both been subbed already, Telfer before Half Time and Watson at Half time.. hopefully just a run out and not a reoccurring injury
  7. It's normally a pretty tight league sometimes from 8th to 4 th can be just a handful of points, we go into Saturday at Arbroath (21 quid to stand behind the goal) it's not a must win, but it is a game where a draw would suit as Arbroath are expected to be " down there" as well..... looking at squad numbers, I cannot see us signing anybody else, although it is questionable about the quality of some of our bench warmers...
  8. Survival in League 1 was paramount for yourselves last season and really for us to kick on as a club, if we do fail and go back to League 1 it will be a disaster, we are holding our own at the moment, there will be plenty twists and turns to go., as an outsider I think you guys will get it right, you never know if you target top 4 it's all about hitting form at the right time, Good luck for the rest of the season.
  9. Would you say winning League 1 has been a millstone round your neck, going up a league part time, playing much better sides etc, relegation ensued and a rebuild begins which looks like it will take time, do you think promotion came a season or 2 early for the club.
  10. Good.morning hibees, having a wee chat about the good old days yesterday and our travels and the conversation stopper was the flashbacks to the "Bridge of Doom" at the old away end, ambush central... Is this still used for said entertainment, or indeed still there at all.
  11. Yes that seemed to be the player, I like the Hancock seems to have a bit about him, there was a lot of over passing at that time, but was that due to lack of movement in midfield, you have to be careful with your passing with no full back cover, agree. No need for it
  12. It was a game especially first half, where we just seemed to pass for passing sake, when we could eventually get Frizz pm the ball things seemed to open up, Todorov on another day could have had a hat trick, Gabby yet again struggled throughout his confidence seems shot, a place on the bench maybe next week, quietly impressed with O Connor today.... Quite a lot of frustration amongst the natives in the first half when the univ went in front, Cassidy and Gallagher I thought struggled against that level of player which is worrying when they are our backups, Best for Airdrie were Frizz, Todorov (at a push) and Hancock stuck to his job well with very little cover. Murray Aiken is normally a stick on, but he had one of those days. A wins a win for awe that, and yes the M80 the gift that keeps on giving..
  13. I know madness that day , only a week before he played against Peterhead and never tried a leg all game, thinking back to that game, you were just glad you were there.... Listening to Rhys interview talking about McStravick he was saying he tried to sign him last season, could he be replacement for Dylan Easton that Rhys was looking for ( early days)
  14. Highly rated, in all seriousness the lad just signed his first Professional deal when he turned 17 a few weeks back, he should be playing under 19s and learning his trade, it's irrelevant who his father is, and we as fans have to get over that. IMo Liam should be know where near the reserve side playing against frustrated SPL players, that should be David Hutton or if we ever decide we require a no 2 keeper.. a 7 nil defeat against Livi last week will do nobody any good especially a young keeper, as stated previously players like Todorov, Hancock, etc should have been playing that game, that is something I hope is rectified for next game...
  15. The name of the game now now seems to Pass, Possession , Plaudits. , I always thought it was winning that mattered nothing else..
  16. You won't be saying that when you unveil the loan signing of the Belfast Messi,, Liam McStravick
  17. Where are you playing McKay, he wasn't great for us but probably midfield was his most effective, (that's stretching it a bit) a very awkward looking player
  18. Takes you back going back to Tannadice, although I don't remember the main stand extension the last time, nice stadium, felt like a big game.. Onto the game and for the first time this season, I never felt that at any point Airdrie thought they could win, we could have been 2 or 3 down early on , with very little coming back at that stage, we passed it about nicely with United giving us our own half more or less before initiating contact, we missed McCabe and Frizzell today more for a directness and a change of pace... Best for Airdrie were Ballantyne, Fordyce,Aiken and McStravick nothing really up front , McGill struggling on this league, Gall battles away and is still our biggest goal threat, we need to get Todorov somehow in that side for a different option.. United to be fair were pretty comfortable and didn't have to do a great deal to get the 3 points, in saying that I expect them to take this title at a canter.... A crowd of just over 8k never looked like it to me, with 477 making the sunny journey from NL.
  19. Good points, McStravick does look good, but mostly in recycled possession, would like to see him in an attacking formation, personally I would play the magic boy in McGills position, McGill is not at the races, he was technically poor a league below and his deficiencies are being showed up in this league, to me Todorov offers so much more than a ten minute cameo, would like to see him start, goals or lack of them could be an issue, basically due to better opposition and our change of style... We have another reserve game coming up, if I was Dunlop, Todorov, McGill I would be knocking on Rhys door to get some more minutes into the legs and try and get some confidence, sending the under 19s out against experienced sides , is just cannon fodder , and shows no purpose, hopefully Rhys has learned from that..
  20. Apparently he plays the Frizzell role, well. Now's yous chance son, it's either him or Elliot Dunlop, if the magic boy plays we could play the same system that has been working .
  21. I don't really see the you were wrong, look at us now stuff, 6 points out of 9 is decent, 33 games to go, hard game tomorrow and then away trip to Arbroath and then home to Raith there are no easy games, I think we all know this will be a tough atricional season, it could be easier if oven ready quality signings were in place , still time though, we have the backstop remember of the Loanee window ... Onto Tannadice and the not very welcoming city of Dundee, now having to park miles away, normally over physical stewarding and the old bill always like a collar or two.... Prediction time we will still have 6 points at 5pm tomorrow night.
  22. What's happened to big Fash, is he done at this level..
  23. This is what this thread has been about for weeks, lack of cover in a threadbare squad, we are either having to play players totally out of position or young laddies who will be recovering mentally from their 7 nil mauling in the reserves on Tuesday forced to man up and take on the League favourites in their own backyard..... hardly ideal, we haven't been negative all close season just realistic and to be honest 3 players out is nothing, teams have to cope and compete with a lot worse injury situation than that..
  24. I will rephrase it slightly IMO (which I always give, many on here should give theirs). . with our current squad and lack of depth in important positions, GK, CH etc and our lack of quality signings it will be very difficult over the course of a season, there are no Clyde, Peterhead, kelty triple headers in this league to drag you out a slump, at the moment we are doing great alright we rode our luck on Saturday against ICT.. As I have said before I never want to darken league 1 door again, the 'riches' in this league are enough for clubs to be more 'reckless' with their spending in order to stay in it... 8th is still the target, but with the right recruitment getting the desired quality could mean a 5 th or 6 thplace finish and the extra prize money would more than pay for the better quality of player, as Rhys always says 'High risk, High Reward' that's not true with signings to date is it..
