It very much has the air of Tom Wotherspoon turning Airdrie fully full-time as well. Wotherspoon had a 'three-year plan' to get Airdrie to the Premier League which essentially involved letting go a whole squad of decent part-time players to sign a bunch of kids and guys at the arse-end of the full-time scale - Ryan Conroy, Simon Mensing, Joe Gorman, Daniel Boateng and 'marquee' signing Kevin McBride who ended up only playing about half a dozen games before retiring and briefly becoming a coach then the manager. The only redeeming feature of that team was Andy Ryan and Iain Russell and without their goals we'd have most likely been the in the play-offs at the other end of the table (we finished 3rd yet conceded just under 70 goals). Really the main issue was that Wotherspoon had no idea what it actually required to successfully run a football team at this level on and off the park and he eventually got disillusioned with it all and left us in real financial shit. The club has only really just recovered in the last season or two. Also has an air of Airdrie's recruitment from agents this pre-season. It's fair enough if you can find a gem like Thomas Robert but for every Robert you're going to get a Griffin Sabatini, Harlain Mbayo, Jack McKay and Eoghan Stokes most of whom have barely even played a minute of league football. I sincerely hope it works out for Dumbarton but I certainly have my concerns about it all.

Everything was going fine  under Wotherspoons initial splatter cash phase,  bringing in Alan Upton (who) as a Head of Football and  that oddity Wolecki Black to stitch up Bollan,   it went Pete tong when Wotherspoon got caught pumping his Secretary (Right Here,Right Now) and his wife took him to the cleaners, after that his interest waned somewhat....

Onto Dumbarton,   with our Ian Murray's contract ending at end of the month, and him having various coaching jobs at FC Oster in Norway, I wonder if they might go try and go down that route especially with the club possibly going full time in the near future.... Maybe looking too much into the Norway link...

    Good luck against Stranraer..

Not sure what the current mix is of full time/part time/hybrid for clubs in the championship but if (and it's a huge if) we went up, I'd be keen to keep at least some part timers. I think it's been proven beyond all doubt that the best part timers are always substantially better than bottom tier full timers. Morton this season being a prime example of this.

Whatever league Airdrie end up in ,  a massive rebuilding job required for whatever league we will be in..

Robert, Stokes, McNeill,Mbayo, Sabatini,  Turner, Paton, Connel , J McKayand probably youths Burke, Moore and Hughes.

All of the above will be gone with others McCann and Kerr getting interest elsewhere and that is if the rest sign and also to decide Ian Murray's future, , massive short summer ahead for the diamonds, with pre season starting back for most teams in 6 weeks.

We generally seem to struggle against the big full-time teams in this league (Livingston, Raith Rovers, Ayr United, Partick Thistle) so I love how much we seem to have Falkirk's number. Beating them is always great fun isn't it?

Given that this time five weeks ago we'd just lost 2-0 up at Cove and put in a terrible performance, it's remarkable we're now heading up there on Saturday after finishing above them and only two points off top. I've said it before but fair play to Ian Murray and the team, a phenomenal bunch of lads over the last five weeks. Really important it doesn't end here though, two very tough games coming up but no reason we shouldn't be confident going into it. I'm already buzzing for Saturday, it's a real shame we can't be there but given our play-off record maybe no fans might actually work in our favour.

Tonight wasn't the best performance, there was definitely an end of season feel at times, but we were comfortably the better team and deserved those goals at the end. Really pleased for Thomson and Turner getting the goals. Both have played their part in our recent turnaround, Thomson setting up the winner at Dumbarton and Turner being the GOAT, delighted for Turner especially getting a well deserved first goal. Hopefully the first of many

only one fan wanted to win that match and it wasn't Falkirk. 😜.

Murray was driving them on to win the game with 5 minutes to go,    thought our short passing and possession football was decent throughout,    2 difficult games coming up against a very good Cove side...

It’s nice to be going into this with the pressure off. Like @AndyDD I’m not overly fussed how we approach this one. I’d be happy to rest certain players and if there are any players carrying knocks they should be rested IMO. But I also believe carrying momentum into the play-offs is a huge thing and it wouldn’t take that much to halt ours. Plus finishing 2nd with home advantage in the second leg(s) is just literally better than the converse in 3rd. But from the team on Saturday I think you could swap in Crighton for Fordyce, Thomson or O’Reilly for Carrick and Roy for Connell and still be competitive or somewhere close to our best. I suppose the big question is do we rest one of or both Paton or Turner? They’ve been the fundamental reason for turn around in form so taking them out the team could potentially stall us. But on the other hand we really can’t afford to have either of them missing the play-offs through injury or suspension. A big decision for Ian Murray but that’s why he’s paid the (not so big) bucks to manage our football club. FWIW he strikes me as naturally cautious so I think we’ll see some changes but still put out a half decent side. If I’m not mistaken we beat a Falkirk side in better form in December with a midfield of Kerr, Sabatini and Ritchie so no reason why a similar combination can’t do so again... Could always go full patter and see if this side could consign Falkirk to 5th.
                             McNeil

    Walker P.McKay Mbayo Burke

    J.McKay Ritchie Stokes Moore

                        Hughes Pyott

Apart from Crighton replacing Kerr (probably won't risk him with the heavy schedule after his double hernia) and Roy may be replacing Connell who has a knock.   I think Murray wants momentum to build for the playoffs,  would like the second leg of the Cove game at home, although we beat them on Saturday I still think they are a very good side, and will take a monumental effort from our boys to get to the final...

as a side note I believe the second placed club gets £20 k more prize money then if you finish third, is that not motivation enough to beat Falkirk and also to boost the coffers in these difficult financial times...

It’s been interesting seeing the improvement in the team since Stuart Millar left. I’m wondering if there’s a link. Is Murray finally getting to be his own man?

    YES

All of a sudden we’ve signed two genuine midfielders with experience of the league, the two McKays dont appear to be un droppable (well Jack anyway) and we are playing some good stuff. Sabiatini is out the picture and Robert is used sparingly. I don’t know, it’s guess work on my part but a few weeks ago I’d have been not fussed if Murray left at the snd of the season but now I’m hoping he stays and gets a full proper season run at it and see where we end up.

Just listened to Holt, full of the usual crap. Interviewer says “ We turn our attention to the Play Offs now”.  Is he aware or been watching what’s been served up for months. Chances are there isn’t  going to be any Play Offs at this rate, you idiot.

Just want this season to end and would be happy if the last game is at Airdrie next Tuesday and we finish 5th.

Why we brought Holt back for any role at the club is beyond comprehension.

Airdrie have went down the DOF role (sporting director) with Eddie Wolecku Black,  Gordon Dalziel and Stuart Millar everyone of them was ego driven, and it affected the playing staff and management....   We have only looked half decent since Millar resigned due to his contract not getting renewed next season....

To me Gary Holt is the same as that lot,   we're Miller and McCracken not well clear in the league when Holt joined...

Interesting team for us tonight. I’d guess it’s a back three of McKay, Kerr and Fordyce with Walker as a right wing back and Carrick moving into the middle but it’s hard to say for sure when Kerr has mostly been used in midfield so far this season.

Kerr was outstanding in defence tonight, why are we trying to make him a midfield player,  Gutsy performance and very well organised,   credit to Ian Murray,    Ritchie and Roy had 10 mins each and both looked completely gubbed,   Our squad as we know has no depth..

Looking not too bad for the playoffs..

You want us to take him off your hands?

Murray definitely splits opinion in our support,  has he taken us as far as he can with the budget available,  possibly.....    If we were to look for a new manager nobody would stick out I wouldn't think...  If Murray was to get us into the playoffs i think a new deal could be on the table.

would think Falkirk like most clubs trying to recruitment a new management team will not want to pay compensation,  so most managers available are of the damaged goods vatiety..

I thought Roy had a better game than Gallagher too before his goal, and he was unfortunate that he was subbed off before we really got into the game. He worked very hard and he’s been putting himself about, which isn’t something you could have said about him last season. Connell has made a decent impact in recent weeks too and is someone we know can put a chance away so it’s nice to finally have all of our strikers in a bit of form.

I always class Ally Roy as a willing runner,  Seagal and Connell are better all round forwards, who can get an important goal,  jury's still out on Roy on that respect.  But......it's working and in that respect don't change the winning formula up top.

That’s a really interesting stat about our subs. I bemoaned our lack of impact off the bench for the majority of this season but, again, it’s nice to finally have substitutes that can win or change a game and it makes a hell of a difference. And that’s without Robert really finding his groove yet since the re-start. I’m not sure what the score is with him at the moment but, as I said a few pages back, hopefully he can play himself into a bit of form and find that spark he provided earlier in the season. Again, it could prove to be crucial in these tight split and/or play-off games.

Robert is a funny one, is there any league 1 fullback s who are having sleepless nights after facing him..  No...  Has he had a decent 90 mins ... No.    Flashes of brilliance. Yes  Cove, Livvy, Clyde, For far the rest has been a lethargic ineffective spell in a struggling side that needed a spark...

Since he signed our now departed DOF has been hawking him to the media and agents to get him up the ladder,   I would think he would be away in the summer, and good luck to the lad...

Onto the game,  it will be difficult against a well drilled side in form,    I hope we have a plan in place for defending against Tiffoney and an overlapping Foster,  that is an area of the park defensively we struggle..

    Onwards and upwards

Allan Stubbs or Alex Rae would go a long way to ensuring I never set foot back inside the Falkirk Stadium.

Will it be the appointment of the usual retreads,    has Jim McIntyres name written all over it.

or how about a left field appointment.  Stuart Taylor......

I hear Alex Totten has packed it in too.  Spin....Alex has decided to enter well earned retirement. No Spin......,A disillusioned Alex Totten has decided to resign.

Pick the one you want to believe. Let’s see them fill the commercial revenue hole that Alex’s departure will open up.

Get him to f**k, old dinosaurs like him are a leech to Scottish football..
