It's pretty bizarre the take that Arbroath seem to have on this question. No bother changing game times all over the shop to satisfy TV companies and sedentary, armchair viewers but heaven forbid a club might want to make an occasion for fans who actually attend games.

Nah. TV games are contractual, would be lunacy to complain. Utd want to swap to commemorate the anniversary of a name change. Unheard of.

You have to wonder about the thought processes of those in power. Ok, if it was a very significant, important anniversary then could kind of understand the request but this is so tin pot it’s unreal.

What next? 50th anniversary of our first floodlights, 20 years since the new toilets were built?

Our 150th anniversary is coming up in 5 years - I think we need to start thinking now of how we can use it to our advantage when it comes. They have set a precedent.

Arbroath FC founded on 1 July. Not a great date on which to force an advantage. Plus I wouldn’t have the gall to ask.

This ‘actual football’ stuff - honest to f**k

What exactly has been wrong with the way we’ve played the last 2 games?

How many teams in Scotland actually play good passing football? f**k me man you could count them on one hand

Also were looking for defenders - I think they’ll get plenty of experience of defending here ffs… also have the benefit of being part time so the better younger players at the bigger clubs can still train with and be around their first teams

Boy wants DC gone. Fair dos opinions are fine. The dismissal of the Morton result on the basis ‘it was only Morton’ was a far out take though.

Think it’s abundantly clear from just setting eyes on him for more than 30 seconds, that’s coming from me, someone who championed him and said he should be given a chance. It just didn’t work out here.

I don’t think it’s just us either, a team like Queens Park for example. The team everyone’s been banging on about how good they are at playing football on the deck, I don’t think he’d do well there either. They’ve got a whole load of energy and pace all over the park, which you need for this league regardless of how you play.

It feels like a massive over exaggeration to a pretty reasonable and sensible decision that’s been made by the manager, because he’s not the most popular at the moment.

I agree with this. The notion that we could have built a team round SA I just can’t have. A huge disappointment of a signing. If he does anything of note at Larne I’ll eat my hat.

This is a terrible idea whenever its suggested.  Why offer cheap tickets for a terrible crime against football which will make newcomers run in horror and never come back?  If we are going to offer cheap tickets, it should be when things are going well!

It’s not just for newbies tho eh? Anyway would have to run it by Inverness if the gate is being split.

  6. I’ve been watching Arbroath play Queens for years and they always struck me as being good eggs. I don’t know much about the Lesser Hampden saga but it’s a shame it’s appears not to be going that well. Feels like a missed chance.

I hope they get a bit of terrace on Saturday and, one final thing, can we play maroon vs hoops and bin the unnecessary use of showbiz change kits please.

In all honesty, I hold a small and petty grudge.  I felt that defence was a priority, and that we badly needed cover.  I said that at the time and was roundly mocked.  Fast forward a few months, and suddenly all these exact same people are saying that of course defence is a priority, and should have been a priority all along.

Fair play for honesty. I disagreed with your assessment of Ricky being a “player in decline” not your call for signing defensive cover.

Kind of wish Simon hadn’t done this. The amount of time I’m wasting when I should be working is crazy - my boss is an absolute dick and I’d be in trouble if he found out…

    … I’m self employed 🤣

Brings back so many memories, good and bad. Some games just stick in your memory.

Always remember this 6-3 win over QOTS in April ‘84. On fire that day and I remember Dougie Lees playing a blinder and scoring a peach, curling one in from 20 yards for our sixth goal.

One of the reasons it stands out so much is that we’d recently found out that we were leaving Arbroath to move to Aberdeen soon and this was one of the last games I would go to for a while. At the time I was a 15 year old, Arbroath FC daft, season ticket holder so moving to the other side of the world (felt like it and might as well have been) was pretty horrible.

I’m minding a Queens missed pen. Pat McLuskey?

Ace. Able to relive the details of this shambles. 4-2 up with 8 minutes to go only to lose 4-5.

I remember (at 4-4) the feeling of dread when Watty Boyd went galloping up the pitch in slow motion to try and salvage the win only to lose the ball at the half way line and Roberts ran on to smash it past Balfour. Then the feeling of disbelief when the final whistle blew.

Some games just stick in your memory, normally the disasters. The Partick cup game when they were down to 8 and still won or the Cowdenbeath game in ‘93 when we were 2-0 up going into injury time and it ended 2-2.

    Great stuff.

I mind these 3 calamities pretty well. Interesting that the Cowden one (Diver scored I recall) lives on in someone else’s head too.
This site is outstanding Simon, thank you.

Your ambition this season is to avoid a relegation while ours is to win a league.

The mood in your forum is a lot less optimistic than ours which says it all.

Let's not kid ourselves, being in around the bigger clubs and stadiums isn't worth it for a supporter for more than a couple seasons when you start losing most weeks and not scoring much.

We’re striving, you’re settling. Arbroath v Forfar in the Championship would be great.
