  1. "He's gonna flick one, HE'S GOING TO FLICK ONE......." Brian Moore's iconic piece of commentary as Ronald Koeman flicks England out of qualifying for USA 94, just minutes after RK inexplicably and hilariously stayed on the pitch after a blatant professional foul on David Platt and poor Graham Taylor's infamous meltdown on the touchline all captured for that infamous Channel 4 documentary.
  2. Karl Heinz Rummenige tries the spectacular for West Germany against Morocco at Mexico 86. A last minute free kick from Lothar Matheus was the only goal of the game in this round of 16 tie, advancing the Germans to a quarter final against the hosts they won on penalties before defeating France 2-0 in the semi finals, a French team absolutely blown out after beating Brazil on penalties in an energy sapping classic in the searing Gudlajara heat a few days previously. Eventually going down 3-2 to Argentina in the final this was another example of an average German team using their experience, craft and guile in tournament football to go further than their talents probably merited. Something they were renowned in that era.
  3. Roy Keane doesn't look overly impressed with Mick McCarthy's outstretched hand after Ireland beat the Netherlands 1-0 in September 2001, a result which eliminated the Dutch from qualifying for the following Summer's World Cup in Japan, where Keane/McCarthy relations would seriously go tits up. This was the same day England won 5-1 in Germany and Scotland drew 0-0 at Hampden against Croatia. I was actually in Dublin that day for the U2 concert at Slane Castle on the outskirts of the city, they showed the second half on the big screens I seem to recall.
  4. Yeah, he ended up back at Ajax for a year or so at the end of his career.
  5. Les Ferdinand celebrates scoring a Newcastle goal against Arsenal next to a less than impressed Lee Dixon.
  6. Referee Perluigi Collina consoles a distraught Samuel Kuffour at the end of Manchester United's incredible smash and grab Champions League final win against Bayern Munich in Barcelona on 1999, Dwight Yorke looks exhausted as a disbelieving David Beckham and Jens Jeremies look on.
  7. One of first football matches I ever remember watching on TV was the second leg of the 1984 UEFA Cup final between Tottenham and Anderlecht, the North London side winning on penalties thanks partly to the heroics of then rookie goalkeeper Tony Parkes, unsure why Ray Clemence wasn't playing, back then you were lucky to get half a dozen live matches a year up in Scotland in a non international championship year, the two domestic cup finals and two or three Scotland games was about your lot. Being aged 7 than and beginning to get into football I remember the thrill of seeing this, followed in the space of a week or two the Aberdeen v Celtic Scottish Cup final and Liverpool winning the European Cup against Roma in the Italians own stadium. Tony Parkes went on to play a spell at Falkirk and a couple of decades later Anderlecht received a European ban after it emerged they had bribed the referee in their semi final against Nottingham Forest in this tournament.
  8. I'm a bit of a nostalgia freak when it comes to sport, music, films etc especially pertaining to the era's around my childhood, there is a cracking thread on the Premiership forum for nostalgic pictures of Scottish football from the recent and distant past which I thoroughly enjoy reading and posting in. Thought I'd start one here for non Scottish football related stuff for nostalgia geeks like me. To kick off, here's a cracking picture of Marco Van Basten celebrating his opening goal of a hat trick against England at Euro 88 in the then West Germany, love the sea of oranje clad Netherlands supporters in the background, think the other player is Jan Wouters who was a coach at Rangers for a spell later on
  9. In fairness is Levein can still get a Premiership gig there must still be hope for Yogi?
  10. Funnily enough, almost identical to Forthbank, there is a Morrisons supermarket a few hundred yards from the ground.
  11. I have a 4 and a half hour stopover on the way out, land at terminal 2f and depart from 2e..... should be fine but only 90 minutes between flights and the same terminals at CDG on Thursday coming home so that might be tight but, reading there is a train every ten minutes which takes 8 minutes or something?
  12. Anyone on here flown with Air France before? I'm off to Madrid with them on Monday and wondered if you are crammed in like Ryanair/EasyJet, being relatively tall/big I tend to boom extra leg room seats with them, what are AF like for legroom/space ?
  13. Pretty sure he is making a joke in reference to Celtic using one of the units at St Mirren to sell merchandise when we played a couple of friendlies there whilst Celtic Park was being used for the Commonwealth Games.
  14. It's genuinely staggering how much of a fanny you are.
  15. Once described Rangers and their fans as 'A permanent embarrassment to Scotland and an occasional disgrace' in reference to the clubs 'signing policy' and the regular instances of the fans acting like animals. Archer, I believe was born to Scottish parents but raised in Devon so, had an insight and understanding of the nuances of Scottish culture and in particular it's influences on Scottish football fans but, from a distance down in England where, many viewed some of the extremist attitudes and behaviour with a sense of bewilderment. He was one of the first and very few back then to call out Rangers and their fans for their caveman attitudes and behaviour.
  16. A 3.00 kick off on a Saturday, away day in Edinburgh, looking forward to a wee sesh on the supporters bus through and afterwards in one or two auld reekie boozers before a train home. Was commenting to my mate yesterday that, in recent years, regardless of the form of the two Edinburgh sides we have always had a harder game at Easter Road than Tynecastle, statistics seem to back this up although, thankfully unlike the dead rubber at the end of the season we won't have Scott Bain or Kobiyashi playing. Based on how unpredictable Hibs can be and their decent record against us at home I'd take any kind of win here so I'm going for a 2-1 win for the Champions with O'Riley and Hatate on target .
  17. Stephen being knocked over and killed by Peter Barlow in Coronation Street.
  18. Heard we're getting the full Roseburn back for the second half once the Hertz fans f**k off home at half time.
  19. I don't think anyone with a semblance of intelligence really thinks that Jordan Belfort, before and after his downfall, is and was anything but an absolute scumbag no matter how he came across in the film but, it is an absolutely sensational performance by LDC and, frankly the film is hilarious. Several scenes where, on first watch I was doubled up in laughter... not least when Donnie first sets eyes on Nadine at the party
  20. The Departed is an absolutely sensational film, anyone who says otherwise a damn fool.
  21. The old main stand at Brockville. Sat in it once, my uncle who passed away recently was a scout for Falkirk and took 14 year old me to a midweek game against Morton the home side won 2-1 in September 1990, been to Brockville many other times watching both Stirling Albion and Celtic as well as a few Falkirk games as a neutral but always on the terracing.
  22. 1988 Scottish Cup final Tommy Burns, Billy McKinlay who like his team mate Kevin Gallagher was constantly linked with Celtic in that era but never came to anything, Paul McStay and a blurry Frank McAvennie in the background who's two goals would win the cup on a baking hot day at Hampden. Eerily similar to the final three years earlier, Dundee United took the lead early in the second half, Celtic equalise with about 15 minutes left and scored the winner with a couple of minutes left, that final and the 1-0 win against Rangers the following year were both played in blazing early summer sunshine.
