  1. Right get on with it then ! 5 times up and down the steps in the grandstand to give you time to think.
  2. Can we get the thread onto taking about the future rather than chewing the fat of past players and their merits and shortcomings it's getting boring. Positions that must be filled for the coming season. Goalkeeper, Right back, Left back, Midfielder with a bit of pace and an engine, Midfielder come winger, Forward. We have enough experience so players in the 19-25 year old bracket with maybe the exception of the keeper. So any thoughts folks. Anybody from other clubs got any comments on who could do a turn ?
  3. That's what I thought would be the best course of action. Something along the lines of a pre contract agreement that kicks in at an appropriate time to start pre season training. With the appropriate get out should the worst happen and kick off is delayed. Players I would think would get comfort from the certainty of getting fixed up early. There will be a tendency to take the offer so you can stay in the game, knowing many won't. We should get in early !
  4. Looking at the future not the past. Any forum contributors got any names of available players that could do a turn for us. I do hope we don't go for the usual last 2 -3 week signing frenzy picking up the leftovers.
  5. Would have kept Brough, ok he was a bit slow but he was not a bad player and as good if not better than some we have signed after him.
  6. Size of squad will depend on the budget and what the club is prepared to pay as a wage. Plus if done right some part time players. There will be a glut of players looking for a club and not enough positions to go round. So it's an employers market with players available with a point to prove so no lack of motivation to ensure they stay in the game. Assuming on top of the 6 signed for next season the 6 on short term deals get a seasons extension. The club require - Back up goalkeeper - Right back - Left Back - Center half - Midfield playmaker - Midfield box to box player - Midfielder come winger - Forwards x 2. Should be looking at the 19 -24 year old age group as we have enough experience of older players already signed. Think anything less could leave the squad exposed when injuries , suspensions , drop off of form come into play. As I said, nothing wrong nothing right its just an opinion.
  7. Back onto all thing FFC. We know the league we are in. We know M&M have the gig for the foreseeable future. We know the core of the squad. We know after the Deans interview there will be signings so can expect a 20 -22 squad. This is the first bit of certainty the fans have had for months. What positions do other forum users think required to be signed and what age range. ? No rights or wrongs in the answers but opinions made would be of interest to all. Lets get discussions back on track and leave Pandemics and Junior football to the appropriate forums.
  8. Have always thought Dixon would better playing as one of the center backs.
  9. Have not seen him play to make a judgement but could be the leader on the park we require. Suspect he will get an offer at a higher level though.
  10. Does Alston still have it in him do that role ? So many hero's have come back and not worked out for them. .
  11. Lets get back to the purpose of the thread - Falkirk Football Club related matters. Hard decisions regarding the forthcoming abridged season will be taken over the next month. Lets assume M&M get the managerial gig for the coming season. The six signings for next season is a core of the squad to build on with most certainly some of the six on short terms contracts get an extended deal if not for the season at least half the season. Lets say we have 9-10 players on the books. FFC should have an idea of the budget M&M have. What's the thoughts on the minimum squad to get us through the season. Also on having some part time players if that means a few more players signed. Open minded on this and there will be a glut of players desperate to stay in the game.
  12. I hope there are crowds as well. However betting the clubs future on belief is inherently dangerous. Taking a cautious and prudent budget projection based on a worst case scenario would be the best way forward. If as we all hope crowds return to the stadium then the increased revenue will be a welcome bonus. Better to under estimate your income than over estimate.
  13. Clubs will have to cost their budget on a no crowd scenario. Every club will run with reduced squads - reduced wages or a mix of both. Could be some interesting signings on the horizon !
  14. You could be right ! it was decades ago but the point is still valid. Playing the same team every few weeks is not good marketing.
  15. There was an instance in the Jim McLean era at Dundee United when they played a team who's name leaves me 13 times in one season. That is not a marketable product as far as the fans are concerned and as you posted the players get sick of it. That's how bad blood, grudges and vandetta's start. Nothing will be done because the clubs themselves legislated away influence to a self appointed elite !
  16. Of course not ! we are where we are because we deserve to be there. Never insinuated otherwise.
  17. To be fair there are circumstances beyond our control. Teams in the bottom two divisions do not influence policy and it will be a case of this is what you are getting. It's anybody's guess what October will bring and teams will have to commit by August latest so they can get the infrastructure, squads, staff etc sorted. If it's closed doors games I just don't see how some teams in our league can do it and be financially viable. Therefore it is only fair that teams should be given the opportunity to sit the season out without penalty.
  18. Think you are talking about the Scottish Tar fire in 1973 !
  19. Was told by an American that came across the pond during the early days of the North Sea Oil exploration. That he had never seen so many high pressure volatile processes is such close proximity in the western world. Commenting ' If one went boom it would take the rest with them. It was scary stuff ! in the 70's and nobody had a clue of the danger. How perverse - he worked for Occidental !
  20. It is anybody's guess what's the next episode in this bizarre mega shambles. FFC are so far down the pecking order of things and have no influence at all. Case of wait and see and think no higher than existing when what the f**k is going to happen - happens !
  21. Was always of the opinion that the demise started when Eddie May left his post at the Academy.
  22. No statements one way or another. If the lower league clubs had been asked. Can you play a season behind closed doors ? they would not be shy about telling people about it. So in the absence of these clubs saying anything it's reasonable to presume they have not been asked.
  23. Many clubs in the lower leagues will have worked out playing is not a financially viable option without crowds. Forcing them to commit financial suicide is madness. The blazers have not asked them, can you play with these restrictions ? They should be given the option to sit out the season without penalty. Then those clubs willing to risk it or can live with the worst scenario can go ahead. If what is proposed goes through there is a likelihood some clubs could fold. There are twists and turns to happen yet with this mega shambles.
