The Falkirk FC Thread
HopeStreetWalker replied to Kris.'s topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
See Gomis as on the bench this season or starting for 60 minutes. As for Leith, Laverty and Telfer all three of them know this is a make or break season for their football careers. So there should be no lack of motivation and M&M must think they have a chance so its a case of wait and see. As for signings if what has been posted is true the club confidentiality is a disgrace, talk about tipping the wink to the competition ! -

It's looking more and more like a 3-5-2 line up for the coming season. -

Agree ! This pitter patter settle into the game for the first 15 minutes nonsense we have done for in the last few years has played a part in where we are. Put a team on the park and go for it from kick off. Nothing better than having the opposition defending corners, making saves, desperate clearances right from kick off. -

M&M must see something in Telfer , Leitch and Laverty to convince them that they have a chance. Every player should be bursting a gut to hold down a place. But these three know it's a a make or break season for them. Hope they make it ! -

Yes very possible ! but this a a standard he could well step up to, all depends on the training and bounce games in the next few weeks. Would love to see us taking games by the scruff of the neck. -

Agree, we should be setting out our stall, this is how we are going to play - try and stop us. That's what the great Willie Cunningham did with his team home and away. Be bold and go for it from kick off every game. 3-5-2 and pummel the opposition. Mutch Durnan - Hall - Dixon Mercer - G Miller - ? - ? - Sneddon Dowd - ? If we have the two athletic wingbacks we hope we have that can get up the park and importantly back to turn the defense into a back 5 when required. Coupled with Miller as a holding player we are nearly there. If we get Alston and McKenna it looks an even more attractive option. If you have possession in the opposition half then that is the best defense. Enough of this lets settle into the game for the first 15 minutes nonsense we endured for the last few seasons. -

Would suspect every player on contract will have a clause should the worst happen to terminate the contract with stipulated compensation. Football Clubs will be no different from any other company which have employees on a fixed term contract. The worse happens and business comes to a grinding halt come November. They have to factor that into the employees contracts. As for an HR department they would have to have a suitably qualified individual employed or on board as a consultant. Deans background with KPMG will ensure that side of things are covered. -

Like every employer issuing short term contracts there will be a get out clause for the worst case scenario. Human Resource departments will have the appropriate legal wording in place. If FFC haven't then hell mend them for their stupidity. -

The John Perry of the modern era ! Can win you a game one week and next game would be a liability and as well sitting in the stand for all he would contribute. Two of the most frustrating players ever to play for Falkirk as you knew they had the game to play at a higher level. -

Could Laverty be the one to fill that role ? It's his make or break season and M&M must think he has a chance. -

Like O'Hara - Shepherd just did not fulfil his potential after he first broke through. Shame for both of them as I think fans were full of expectation of what was to come. -

The clubs don't trust the blazers and are not willing to give them the power. From their past exploits it's understandable. -

It's a worse case scenario I was making my point on. Your post highlights how important it is that the guidelines are followed. -

M&M could be thinking of a 3-5-2 ? Durnan - Hall - Dixon then they could use the new signings Mercer and Sneddon as wingbacks. Maybe not every game but horses for courses. -

In these unprecedented circumstances, I would expect most contracts offered by clubs to have get out clauses for worse case scenarios. Beginning to come round to the idea of 2 - 3 signings then the rest part time. In fact some good players may prefer part time as a fall back. Can you imagine the St Mirren scenario mid season good grief. Teams they played in the last 14 days then the teams these teams played into lockdown. Very quickly the season could grind to a halt. Not having a go at St Mirren ( poor sods ) and this is not a gloat fest ! far from it as it could happen to any club and suspect it won't be the last. Go Canny ! -

That was always the great unknown. How much cash will the season tickets bring in together with what will be the regulations in October regarding football crowds. Get the incoming and outgoing finances wrong and like any other business football clubs will close. -

From who we have signed there are bankers as starters for most games. Mutch - Durnan - Dixon - G Miller - Connolly - Dowd - Sammon that is the core of the team like it or not. We need pace, drive and flair in our signings. Interesting times await. -

If we do go up we would require a rebuild any anyway, there would be no more that 4 -5 players kept from what we have signed at present. -

Football is moving away from rigid systems with players being more flexible in a variety of positions. Under pressure lets be realistic its a 5-4-1 while going forward it is often a 2-4-4, with a 4-5-1 in midfield tussles. So as the game moves up and down the park formations change. If anything its an evolution of the old W W formation of 3-2-3-2 with key players moving in and out certain positions. Good example of that is Robertson at Liverpool moving from fullback-left midfield come winger and back again.
