I was told when I attended the only proper match* that has been played at the new ground in Kirkintilloch that it was expressly because KRR hadn't put a penny towards it that the cooncil are going out of thier way to give KRR the cold shoulder.

The person telling me that could have got his facts wrong of course, but that's what I was told...

But you'd think that if KRR were paying normal rates to rent the ground for Saturday games and/or training nights then the council would be happy to take their money while they decide on the lease? Or are one or both parties not speaking to each other about using it while the lease is still being sorted?

Good to see that irvines fixtures have been sorted now if Kenny can hop down to the 3rd division and sort Bellshills out that would be great best part of 3 months without a home game and probably one of the only grass parks at the level able to get games on in the winter months 🟡⚫🟡⚫

You were supposed to be playing Threave at home on 20th January which would break up the run of away games, but for some reason it is postponed and now Threave are playing Stranraer in a South Counties FA Challenge Cup match. Something that Kennie should really be explaining, especially as Bellshill have played 3-4 games fewer than their nearest challengers and are still in the Junior Cup.

  3. Leith Athletic making the long trip to Threave, but they are quite rightly not happy about it and seemingly not getting answers as to why they have to make the trip two days before Christmas - when 20th January is a free week for them and two other ties with LL/EOS clubs are being played then.

When I looked at the WOS website a couple of weeks ago, Threave had a fixture on the 20th so it's not quite as straightforward as the other two ties. Now it appears Threave have a free week in the WOS and instead are playing Stranraer in the South Counties FA Challenge Cup. Meanwhile their opponents Bellshill posted a fixture list on Facebook 3 days ago, seemingly unaware that their 20th January game is postponed!

So how did that come about @Kennie and if Threave can miss a WOS fixture why couldn't the Leith game be played then?

That's only half the story.  Other 2 rescheduled games allocated to 20 Jan, a cup date in EoSL calendar.  Leith told to play 23 Dec - a free date in EoSL calendar.  Leith tie the furthest apart travel distance wise by a long way.  Rediculous to ask a team to travel 7 hour round trip 2 days before Xmas. Throw in the difficulty in accessing a bus for 23 Dec & the cost (a lot higher than was being asked for the bus when first attempt to play game was cancelled ON THE DAY).  Threave, a WoSL club, do NOT have a WoSL fixture on 20 Jan.  They are due to play Stranraer Reserves that day in a SoSL cup competition.  South Cup sec has been extremely uncommunicative in responding to Leith's requests for an explanation.  Quite why a WoSL team are playing in a minor SoSL competition is a puzzle in itself.  South Cup sec, who lives not far from Castle Douglas where Threave play, is part of the SoSL Board & is sec for the SoSL minor cup competition too.  Interestingly there are NO SoSL fixtures scheduled for tomorrow & only 3 in WoSL. Not surprising given players etc under pressure with families etc so close to Xmas.  I would have thought South Cup took preference to a minor local cup never mind the SoSL/Wosl conflict.  Leith have been treated appallingly & have had little back up from the EoSL who weren't even in possession of all the fixture facts until yesterday &Thursday).  I think Threave have saw an opportunity to gain an advantage as soon as Leith queried the date & have enrolled a friendly face in the shape of the South Cup sec to insist on the game being played 23 Dec.  Whole thing stinks.

Nothing wrong with the other two games being played on 20th January, as there's no LL or EOS league fixtures scheduled yet so the cup games can get priority. WOS games being played tomorrow to help ease fixture congestion, but no need for Leith to travel when the 20th is an option.

I'm sure when I last looked on the WOS website that Threave had a game on the 20th, but now they (and Bellshill) are the only teams without a game that weekend. However if you look at Bellshill's Facebook page, 3 days ago they posted their fixture list which had them playing Threave at home on the 20th! So how did Threave get that changed with the WOS to allow a SCFA cup game to take precedence? 🤔

Touching on the subject of ventilation, we raised the matter re opening up promotion to the Lowland League when we joined but were advised the member clubs’ overall view was that this was contingent on automatic promotion being granted by the SPFL. We believed this to be flawed reasoning and also knew that the SPFL would not agree to this in any event. There is no constituency among the SPFL members, as far as we are aware, which actively desires to see automatic relegation from SPFL 2 introduced – and we can’t see why that would change. We wouldn’t have supported that when we were in the SPFL after already having conceded a play-off route to promotion which did not previously exist. Why would they accept auto-relegation when nothing is offered in return? As regards ventilation from Tier 6, this is a subject we are happy to consider further with our fellow member clubs.

Only way it changes is if non-league is more attractive to SFPL clubs (and if more non-league clubs are promoted) - in other words, if better tier 6 clubs replace current LL clubs. Eventually that will take place with 1 up from tier 6 each season, but by not opening up promotion it just means it'll take longer for the LL to achieve and thus longer for it to become a better league. Of course the LL clubs in danger of being relegated are not going to hasten their own demise, especially when there's not even automatic relegation just now.

Tranent have already tabled a change to the current relegation/promotion places.

We wrote to the secretary last week with a motion for two up and two down every season, we now require a seconder for this change to be discussed at the next LL meeting.

That's good to know, at the very least there should be a motion to change the rules so that there is no chance of the bottom team escaping relegation.

Is there anyone at all at Rob Roy who has any information as to whether they are ever going to get this ground?Or even when they might actually find out…..

Guessing there is some issue with deciding who is getting the long term lease, obviously the ground is ready to be booked for hosting football on an ad-hoc basis but perhaps neither Rob Roy nor the Council want to allow that to happen whilst the lease is being sorted?

  8. The only good outcome from the B team vote is if the fact that it's continuing with 18 rather than 16 teams persuades enough clubs to increase relegation/promotion, because 1 team up from tier 6 and no guarantee of relegation from tier 5 is not good enough for a league of this size.

I hear that Rovers board are very much against this, and quite rightly so!

I could be persuaded that 18 teams is the right amount for the LL but obviously the extra teams should be promoted in the correct manner.

Especially if it meant the EOS and WOS champions getting automatic promotion each season.

  10. Before tonight we were on 4.000 for the season, great week of results to get to 6.200 - and there was certainly points dropped over the campaign by all three sides.

Looks like we'll finish at least 11th as the Swiss are unlikely to catch us (impossible for Austria or Denmark even if their clubs won all games), but the Czechs taking advantage of only have 4 clubs with 3 of them still in Europe.

As we have the largest score for 19/20 outside the top 7, that drops off next season so we'll be in a big fight top 15, at least this week's points brings us much closer to 11th.

Aberdeen's 5.5 club points is the largest for anyone outwith Celtic and Rangers since they score 6.0 in 2007/08, will be useful for them to help with seeding should they get into Europe next season. Celtic keep their 57th / 32.000 while Rangers move up 5 to 26th with 62.000.

I said at the time, the directors then were in far too much of a hurry, to rush us back to the old Meadowbank site before construction of the leisure centre was even finished, and Should have waited another year or two until we had a decent venue ready and in place.

Well it's a year and a half since you moved back to Meadowbank so surely it should've been a lot longer than that. That's assuming Meadowbank could ever be a decent venue? As soon as the plans came out it was obviously not going to be suitable.

  12. No Beith thread but they've applied for planning permission for floodlights (only 200lux with one at each corner but enough for entry level), so if everything else has been sorted in the meantime it could mean a licence in the spring.

Ground ownership issue not actually sorted as no more information can be found about the trust that was wound up, but seems like they can go ahead anyway.

  13. Leith not happy their SRCC game is two days before Christmas, though with the next round on 3rd February and Threave playing on 20th January one of Threave's league games would have to make way.

Leith Athletic are disappointed that the rearranged tie in the South Challenge Cup has been rescheduled for Saturday 23/12/23 at 2pm. The tie is away to Threave Rovers who play in Castle Douglas, Dumfries.

When I got the email from the Challenge Cup secretary nearly two weeks ago I queried this immediately.

The 23/12/23 is a designated free week in East of Scotland football and has been since the fixtures were announced in the summer.

Our players have family plans, holidays and most have just finished work the day before so many have Christmas work nights out organised .

I also noted to the secretary that there are two other rescheduled 4th round ties and they are both scheduled for 20/1/24 – one of the ties is just 15 miles apart ….

I asked for an explanation why we are being asked to travel on a free week for over 3 hours on 23/12/23 when a tie 15 miles apart is cast on 20/1/24 .

I am frustrated and angry to write we have not had the courtesy of any explanation. I have requested this several times in the last few days .

We have worked very hard on the pitch to get to this round and cost us a good sum financially but we will be playing this game without a full squad for no real reason. The club, our players and supporters deserve so much better.

Kick off set by league as 1:30 I don't see any valid reason to move any kick off to suits a game out of our league.

Other leagues keep the same kick-off time throughout the season for clubs with floodlights, which for fans is good - and if you normally play at 2pm then starting at 2.30 or 3 isn't that much of a change versus the extra fans you might get.

Kilmarnock are also at home on the 30th so a Friday night game would avoid that as well. Though of course the opposition need to agree.

Beith are never given a home midweek winter game, we have.  If they can’t host a midweek winter game dock them points.  Don’t give the same teams home midweek games losing them a Saturday fixture when others are maximising their gate by not losing a home weekend game.

surely you see that as unfair? Surely then it would be better for us to say lights aren’t working we can’t host a mid week game

No doubt you'd also be complaining if a fixture pile-up for Beith meant their home game against you had to be played on the first available midweek date in April at 6.15pm or something (can't be good for either their gate or players getting to the game).

There can be obvious offsides but in general a linesman’s job is impossible.  He needs to see when the centre back launches the ball and at the same time see the two attackers 30 yards up the field on the shoulders of their markers and determine which of the two is attempting to play the ball.  So essentially he needs split second vision of 3 different events on the field.  Impossible.

On the Premier League ref mic audio you can hear someone say "now" or similar when the ball is kicked which presumably is there to help the assistant keep an eye on the line.

I’ve never understood the “murderers and beasts running around yet they focus on x,y and z” line trotted out by folk

Were there any murders on Thursday night reported that these two coppers should’ve been looking into instead? (Other than Rangers Europa league hopes)

It's also ironic as a number of those types of criminals have been caught due to traffic stops. Whenever the police post about stopping cars for something minor there's always some in their list of offences that include no insurance, no licence, drink/drug driving or outstanding warrants.

  18. Lochee beating Largs on penalties in the only game to go ahead in the last 16, rest will be played next week or the week after.

Draw for the QFs. If things go to form it'll be all WOS Premier semi-finals, though Lochee and Johnstone Burgh if they get through will be looking to change that.

One of the ‘what if’ scenario possibilities seems to be including Dunbar & Broxburn. Both putting on very good displays and perhaps on another day, who knows?

But if both had gone into the pot for round four their ball numbers would have resulted in -

    DUFC vs Rangers

    Celtic vs Broxburn

Not bad for two clubs in tier 6 of the Scottish game.

Not quite - if both had gone into the draw then it would've been Broxburn v Dumbarton.
