The Partick Thistle thread
Barney Rubble replied to South Lanarkshire Jag's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Had this discussion with my brother who is a Celtic fan - there is no way on earth in any of the top leagues in England you will be taken seriously as a centre back if you are less that 6ft 2ins - irrespective of who your father was/is. Niall Keown is 5ft 11ins. My brother made the interesting point that Fabio Cannavaro is 5ft 8ins and it didn't stop him winning a WC medal. Fabio Cannavaro was known to favour a move to the Premiership for a number of years towards the end of his career. Guess why he was overlooked? -

I get what you are alluding to. But bringing it down to Lindsay is way too simplistic. Two seasons ago Lindsay and Keown were being protected by a fully performing Osman and a Barton that was interested in playing football. Last season, Keown was being - ahem - 'protected' by Ryan Edwards and the ghost of Adam Barton. Even Liam Lindsay would have been exposed as a defender last season with those two in front of him. -

The Keown situation is beyond farcical. By all accounts he handles himself properly and is thoroughly professional in his outlook, so given that we are having to pay him anyway, then play him. There's a story that an element of his package is based on appearance money. So what if it is? Pay him it , we've been leaking goals all season with a back four of Archie's choosing. -

Sad to say but it's time we cut our losses with Archie. Let's face it - whatever was there 5 years ago went AWOL in April 2017. -

Interesting one for sure, but not as good as my image of you tuning your stringless guitar to do See Emily Play, and then actually playing it. I would pay to see that. -

Not fair play to the club. The club's announcement tried to pass this off as a regular signing, so nothing much to see here folks. Whoever the announcement was aimed at, it was not transparent with the full facts. Therefore this should not have been passed off as a normal signing. -

No need to be charitable, the recent evidence comprehensively proves that we need a proven right back to replace Christie Elliott. And Keown doesn't wipe his arse with £20 notes - standard practice is £50 notes. -
Nice one - Eric Clapton did a great cover of it on his last album.

After today, Penrice should never ever be fielded as a full-back again. And neither should Christie Elliott. -

He still would, given the current incumbent. -

Christie Elliott is not a full back, right or left. Never has been. Never will be. It is scandalous that Archibald tries to take us in with the nonsense that Christie Elliott is a full back. For the avoidance of doubt, I like Christie Elliott. A cracking guy who will do you a serviceable job in many positions when necessary, but can never be seen as an owner of any position in the current Thistle team. -

This in spades. Thanks for articulating it so succinctly. -

Even before he got his injury v Hearts last October it was clear to everyone that Christie a left back is not. Except Archie. -

Anyone see the Dutch MEP who is deputy to Guy Verhofstadt in the Brexit negotiations on Sky News last night? She ripped Dermot Murnaghan a new one before he came away with his usual mantra 'I'm sorry, but we've run out of time.' -

Harsh to put him in the dud category TL. At worst he was an Emergency dud. -

To underline your observation, ICT were relegated the previous season with 34 points - a total that three teams last season (including ourselves obviously) failed to match. -
