New clubs in the West of Scotland
Dev replied to GNU_Linux's topic in West of Scotland Football League
Yes. There were plans to develop land on Halgreen Avenue, with access to a new roundabout at the western end. It would have been a great opportunity for Drumchapel United. Could it still happen? It is always going to be very difficult to sort out the problems with the Donald Dewar Sports Centre. It made a handy quick fix at the time but it only puts off the need for this ambitious club to find a better first team ground. -
Which? Be a long time before they get to the play-offs? of they'll never lose in such a shocking way in a play-off? Having said that it would be good to see the best current WoS clubs challenged by playing at a higher level !
-
Talbot obviously thinking ahead and getting folk to, already, half accept them losing when they eventually are faced with a play-off for promotion to the LL. Their supporters already preparing for it: "Explanation is they scored 3 goals to our 2 so they won by a goal "
-
Any news on which clubs are now on the SFA Club Licencing path now that applications are closed for the season?
-
"For too long Scottish football fans have been too insular, too focussed on their own club rather than to consider anything that will benefit the wider game in Scotland." ........... but isn't that the problem ........ and right at the top of the game in Scotland? If nothing else sort out a fair promotion/relegation structure for the pyramid i.e. from the top where the Old Firm play and right down to the very bottom , including the Amateurs/Welfare Associations. Get the foundations right!

One of my gripes is the way that, effectively, the SFA went along with B teams in the LL and the Conference Division idea. This, plus the failure to make the Pyramid system work fairly, to me shows how out of touch the SFA has become and how complacent it seems to be. Too many conflicts of interest and no plan even to acknowledge that let alone do anything about it. My views only. Others may well disagree!!
-
Thankfully the damage can be fixed provided the LL clubs get on and make sensible rules changes - and asap please!
-
Wouldn't be too surprised about that, to be honest, but you are just trying to create a smoke screen to deflect attention from Talbot's decline since the WoDS was created, aren't you? When was the last time that the formerly, genuinely great Talbot won the WoS Prem and when did the Bankies last win it? Erm ......... tough one for Talbot's alleged supporters to swallow, so keep up the failed attempts to deflect from Talbot's failures or maybe Talbot's fear of winning the WoS and having to move up the pyramid because it and its' alleged supporters, cannot afford the travelling time and costs to get to the Lothians etc to play teams which it considers to be below their level? The Bankies will persevere until we win promotion, no matter how long it takes, but at least we want to improve our place in the pyramid, if we can. We're not scared like some.
-
One of the issues with getting and keeping a licence is cost and time spent. Clubs which don't go for it don't have to find the costs and time taken involved so it is less difficult for them to challenge for the WoS title etc.
-
Thanks for that. Looks expensive, so would there be any Grants available for some of it e.g. New pitch (if it doesn't meet the grade), up-graded floodlights, etc etc
-
Difficult to look beyond Rossvale and Giffnock. I'd love to see Campbeltown Pupils move upwards to say mid-table. Which club is most likely to take the third promotion spot? EK Thistle?
-
That's how it seems unless a rich backer comes along out of no-where.
-
That's a good one. The club seems to be on the Up again and should be one of the favourites for promotion next season. Could Musselburgh's ground have any chance of a significant up-grade? Seems difficult but they might follow Tranent into the LL, especially if the lack of automatic promotion gets sorted some day.

New clubs in the East of Scotland
Dev replied to Moses McNeil's topic in East of Scotland Football League
With the problems that the Amateur leagues are having with clubs folding all of the time maybe the likes of Steins Thistle might find it easier to jump up to the EoS before very long? A while back long term ambitions to move up were voiced by Tullibody St Serf's (Stirling Amats) but they've struggled as an amateur side. Then LEA side Kirkliston & South Queensferry showed interest in a move up at some time in the future. With the Borders sides filtering down the Divisions maybe one or two might reconsider moving back up to the EoS, especially with the Border Amat League losing clubs/getting weaker(?). I believe that Langlee Amats ground share with Gala Fairydean Rovers (or used to). With those facilities they could be an asset to the EoS. -
There could be a few WoS grounds which could, eventually, be improved to Bronze level for club licencing - if that ever became relevant for the clubs concerned! In the EoS are there any clubs left with lofty ambitions i.e. eventually moving beyond the LL. I can't think of any just now but are there even any grounds which could be up-graded if the opportunity eventually came along? Tynecastle might not be too far off Bronze?
