Always be wary of a man so undistinguished that he has to be given a 2nd hand nickname.

Pretty sure that the Ajax tie was only a quarter final. They were knocked out by Inter Milan the next year at the semi-final stage though, courtesy of a Dixie Deans penalty that is still in earth orbit.
Definitely the quarter final

This is an entirely normal thing for a broadcaster to say. He's not saying it's alarming for him personally, but rather that it is alarming for them.If that's what he meant then that's what he should have said. He didn't.

Richard Gordon supposedly speaking on behalf of the 'national broadcaster' , described Celtic 's drop in form as 'alarming' .

Oh, I totally agree. I have huge problems with the idea that sport should somehow be "regulated to be fair", because it stops being a competitive sport at that point. We all look at the MLS with it's no promotion/relegation and think what an aberration it is to have a 'closed shop'.
I think the problem is, allowing laissez faire has left us with a situation we are in now. Do we just accept that this is our lot and that the two big clubs will always be the two big clubs and even though the scales of finance are tipped even more in their favour (when it was before) that's just the way it is and always will be?
This sort of comment obviously opens up a debate of the OF going to the EPL (which won't happen, no matter the amount of chat surrounding it) or the idea of permanent division between domestic and European leagues rather than domestic leading to European qualification. Neither of those I personally find particular palatable, for differing reasons.
It's the fact that these two vile clubs have the duopoly they have due to a fanning of the sectarian flame for financial gain that makes the situation utter shite.

I've met quite a few Scotland fans who don't have a club team at all. I find that quite strange.
Not at all...perhaps as a wee boy your dad took you to see the club that he supported and you loved that team....then you grew up and got to ' know the history ' and it was enough to make your stomach 'go turn turn turn turn' . So your country becomes your 'club'

If that slavering half -witted enabler of sectarian bigotry James Kelly has no confidence in Richard Leonard then maybe the Labour leader might actually be on the correct path ??

Cowan says himself he knows nothing about tactics and formations etc. I do find that odd considering he's being going to football for years - he must've had noticed something about what he's watching.
Tam Cowan has zero interest in or knowledge of football as a sport....indeed he has zero interest in or knowledge of any sport...He seems to wear as some sort of badge of honour his total indifference to European or international matches that don't have a Scottish connection, preferring to concentrate solely on the turgid tedium that is the Celtic ritual group phase hounding . Yet still he claims to be a 'fitba fan' … Like claiming to be a 60s pop music but having no time for the Beatles because they weren't from Wishaw.

This is technically action from the 1968 League Cup Final which, due to a fire in the Hampden stand, was delayed until April 1969. The 1969 League Cup Final took place that October with Celtic beating St.Johnstone 1-0.
