  1. The "England expects" phrase is really a matter of semantics, the word "England" in place of "Britain" was generally accepted up until the 1960's. In reality it doesn't make any difference, Indy isn't going to happen. Leading up to the Salmond referendum it was generally accepted that a referendum should only happen once every generation, which is every 25 years at least. It must be argued in principle that you can't just re-run any kind of voting system continuously until you get the answer you want, no matter how you rage up and down with a jimmy hat and ginger wig on your napper. If Scotland got what Scotland voted for we'd since have starved to death in Michael Foot's communist revolution years ago.
  2. Looked up the price of an aftermarket silencer for a 2014 insignia 1.8- £136.00. on Eurocarparts. Maybe they quote for vauxhall original parts in short supply for an out of production model? Easy job to do at home, as well.
  3. I remember milk only came in glass bottles, crisp packets were all paper up until the mid 1970's? My Da washed his armpits in cold water in the morning and people bathed twice a week, if that. The plastics , water and electricity usage of folk under 25 nowadays is atrocious, while they patronise my generation and tell us there's a better way. My point is that when people start off life being so self-appointed, their habits don't improve when money/opportunity comes their way. I'm all for technology bringing the answers but new tech. requires more intelligent people to service it in the future, thus removing more well paid jobs from the "working class" as time goes on. Then fine, lets all stick our heads in the sand while banging on about wind farms, the UK is now negotiating with France/China for the building and running of nuclear power stations we can barely afford, while we pretend the luxury of protesting against such terrible things. It's the XR people who want to end the motor industry, paper production etc, etc, while having little answer to future employment/economy for all the humans they want to save.
  4. There is no great "superior intellect" or "morality" involved here, these things are a matter of "pride" and "habit" for the most part i'm with Malky3 on this one. It's the millenials who come to my work and proudly tell me that they need to shower twice a day, their work clothes go through the washing machine every day after work and that's before I get to their mobile phone use (I shower once a day after work, my clothes washed at weekends as necessary). I grew up in the 1970's when all packets were paper and all bottles were glass, if anything this world is going backwards while hiding behind "intellectual arguments". I work in a small/medium size business which employs about 12 people, we fill a large skip with polythene/ plastic banding/cardboard/paint/cement, over a ton every week? About the same amount goes outward as we complete jobs and as far as I can tell you, all of it goes into landfill. That's not the fault of the millenials but they cannot do anything to change what they take part in, the recycling plants for all of this just do not exist. Technology can't really improve that situation, profit margins nationwide just don't allow for it. It's one of these who came to my work, the younger generation always claim to know better, now she's a bit older married a man with money who bought her a Porsche Cayenne turbo-diesel, go figure. Yes legislation/technology might improve these things but believe me people's habits/pride is what the greater problem is, it always changes by the age of 21, when reality finally sets in, so god only knows what millenials will be like in 10 years time. Superior intellect and morality are for people hiding from truth - that millenials if anything are wasting more than my generation ever did.
  5. I had to read your post three times to realise you were being sarcastic. I'm presuming you were being sarcastic?
  6. Edit: to mention the indyref2 poll at the top of the page- i'm surprised "never" isn't an option, if Brexit isn't a tragedy, then I don't ever see it happening.
  7. But that's only because we've run out of parties to "find out", like we've found out Scottish Labour. Besides, the poll refers to the governance of Scotland, not the indy vote. You don't need a silver bullet toto slay the independence vote, it's barely a talking point among anyone I know, far from being a cause. I feel the general public don't have the stomach to raise such an argument. The only thing that could rouse the floating voters is if Brexit turns tragic, but then the indy people will always need greater and greater tragedy to prove their argument.
  8. Thread, sub-forum, whatever. I thought the whole point of this was to have a debate, I didn't realise it was a love-in. I only intended to make a couple of posts but people wouldn't stop responding.
  9. Idon't think I could have made all of these points and not be genuine. I don't get your point about football, the top league has been much of a muchness for a couple of decades now, at least. Apart from the original Rangers going bust there's been little to speak of, the football part of this forum could write itself, i'm just being honest. Don't worry, i'll soon get bored and find a whole other forum. This one is probably the best, though.
  10. That's funny, I just responded to your later post (or was it quoted by somebody else?) stating that it was 20 mins. too long before I seen this.
  11. Just seen the Joker, I can't imagine what films you've seen that does all of those things better. Joaquin Phoenix was superb, I honestly think that was an Oscar-winning performance. Maybe it would seem more intense if it was 20 minutes shorter ,but that's a small gripe. I'd still give that 10/10. Different folk like different movies, but if there's a better performance than that of Phoenix, I can't wait to see it.
  12. What was the question(s) used for this poll? I noticed this before. It's not a game changer, it's a cross section of some people's views, stands to reason many of them will be misinformed, also matters where it was held- 200 yards from the SNP conference?
  13. I'm not the one who demands 4-yearly referenda but then if they get a yes vote, deny that to us. I couldn't presume such intolerance, so I misread the reply.
  14. I'll go horse fucking moron for 10, Bamber. My statement doesn't presuppose "yes" won anything, 'cos in the first place I always knew it was fiction, I think the confusion here is that I know "yes" will never happen, while it's you who tries to presume that it ever could. I think you're arguing semantics now in order to presume that you are right. I don't think this is important, there's no point going round in circles with someone who makes a fictional presumption of "yes" in the first place. "If the boot was on the other foot you wouldn't stand for constant re-runs" That statement stands up for itself. then that states that you wouldn't stand for 4- yearly re-runs, while you expect that of us until you had your way, then be completely intolerant of Britsh who wanted re-runs. I may have misread your reply because I didn't presume complete intolerance by yes voters.
  15. Well, "if" and "independent". Sorry if I overlooked those words, I never thought that made a difference, that's because I cannot presume that Scotland will ever be independent. That's a whole other Disney movie, Tigger.
  16. That's not democracy. The Scottish parliament doesn't count. Youcan't really just add a parliament north of Watford and call yourself legitimate. That's like me forming a parliament around my house and voting never to pay tax again. Then why doesn't the city of London form it's own parliament and vote to give nothing to the isle of dogs, or west ham. Just because we give ourselves a name like "Scotland" doesn't make it any more legitimate than "BILmac1967land" Just because we vote for something doesn't mean we get to deny it to the rest of the UK, like oil revenue, if there is any left. Us and whos'e army, ultimately.
  17. Well, a state we vote within, if we're being pedantic. So now you raise the question of what a country is. A country is defined by it's borders. The previous borders Hadrian's or Antonine's, was really created by the romans. The whole concept of Scotland as a country was really defined by them, not even the English. Surely it was the borderers who wanted to move freely for the sake of trade, this modern Scotland thing is just restrictive. Any historical border wasn't created by those who live here. I honestly feel that Scotland as a country is a load of tartan biscuit-tin romantic tosh.
  18. You state "the country you live in gets what another country votes for" -we're in the UK so we got what we voted for. A majority is a majority by whichever percentage, that's as certain as you can get. If the boot was on the other foot, you wouldn't stand for constant re-runs until we got our way. We were supposed to get a referendum once in a generation. That's 30-35 years, not every four years until you get your way.
  19. Can't find it on amazon prime, Smithsonian will probably repeat it soon, I think it's that kind of channel. But if you like looking at countries from the air, you're in for a treat, going by their schedule. Wasn't this originally on C4 or C5? I'm sure that's where I've seen repeats. I think Smithsonian repeat a lot of stuff from other channels.
  20. Don't get The Apprentice at all . I don't get the point of watching others trying to forward their career. People completing unsuitable tasks probably doesn't tell you much, almost certainly has nothing to do with their future career.
  21. Um frae Glesgae an' a support the Celtic. You're frae Forfar an' ye support Dundee. Yin thing a cannae staun is ye glory hunters.
  22. I thought about this, just looked at Seinfeld on amazon prime, has a laugh track and possibly better for it. I don't think there's an option to remove it but I feel if you did then some of the lines would fall a bit flat. Maybe it's because it was written by a stand up comedian and his style works with laughter after each line. I think Taxi and Cheers had laugh tracks, maybe some jokes don't work without them. I think I prefer ones that don't have them, they're usually better without it.
  23. Both of them stayed in their careers for 4 years at most, for such highly qualified people, they didn't amount to much before they got to run a whole country, either of them.
  24. Used to have Netflix. Moved to amazon prime( for the next day deliveries) ,you get a lot of that kind of stuff there as well, poor quality documentaries labelled as "films" is typical. You might get one good film a month. Green Book is in it, will have to watch it soon. The vast majority of films I stop watching after half an hour.
