  1. Yeah, the problem is and has been consistently elsewhere.
Was made very clear we need more goals in the team, and whilst Shaun Byrne is a good addition to any championship side, and no doubt strengthens Raith even more in what has shaped up to be quite an impressive window for them, my worries about the squad would not be all that sated if we'd brought him in.

Saying that, at least I'd not have withdrawal symptoms from the severe lack of pen gif.

What's everyone's feelings over Wotherspoon now as the saga goes on? Bin the idea completely or still want to see him sign if he wants to. I'd rather he p*sses off to Canada than goes to Airdrie.

I'd still take him, but time is of the essence now and if he's had a chance and not taken it then onwards and upwards.
Unless it becomes clear it was him holding the deal up though, I won't be holding it against him.

Was it not mentioned that there were a number of players who were interested on loan moves based on the success we had in the loan market last season? There must be decent quality options out there willing to give us a try... just need that market to become more available.

No idea, the Fletcher one sounded a bit wild from the off.

Whereas getting a promising youngster on loan who has one year? Left on his contract sounds like exactly what we'd do.

Fair point. Think I've seen enough from that Transfer Scot/Jock McTeckle pages to know not to trust a word that comes from them at this stage, so if they happen to be the source then I'll stay reasonably unconvinced until proven otherwise.

For what it's worth, I do think that'd be an encouraging coup. I was under the impression Hearts wanted to keep him around though (based on other unsubstantiated rumours a couple weeks ago).

Chalmers was superb today. That's coming from somebody who was pissed off at his two year deal

Thought a large part of his success in our team last season was the quality of his "final ball", but his dribbling has really surprised me recently. Bursts of pace I never even knew he had.
He's really come on in the last year and a bit, hoping that continues because when he plays well he's a massive asset for us.

  5. Decent game, great result. Game itself very similar to the matchups last season.

Just hoping it’s not too much longer before we don’t have to feel nervous about how thin the squad is. Showed great fight and determination to win that today, bolster this squad and I’ll be reasonably comfortable we can reach our aims this season.

Last, but far from least… Take a bow Paul Allan. Peach of a strike deserving of a winner at any level.

Same Twitter page that said Deniz was injured has also just said that not only will we sign Wotherspoon before Saturday, but also... Steven Fletcher WTF

Has said twitter page ever revealed anything of any substantial credibility before? A.K.A. Something that then actually happened afterwards?

I’ll sit up straight and take notice if so, otherwise I’m gonna continue to bite my tongue until the pen gif comes out (it’s quite sore hurry up pars ffs)

I actually think this is one of his best attributes tbh, have definitely noticed an improvement in his distribution in pre season / league cup.

Me too, I think his awareness when gathering/going for a quick counter can be excellent and short-mid range he can have both good decision making and accuracy (most of the time... not saying there isn't a howler in there).
Where things go downwards is when we're forced into route 1 punts, but I think that has more to do with that being a pretty rough tactic in the modern game, and McCann being our only forward player with the height and physicality to win those kinds of duels. Even then it's a bit of a lottery if we end up with the ball afterwards, but I'd hardly say that failure is Mehmet's fault.

You're close to signing Harrison Sharp from us on loan according to the Record. He really needs first team games and you lads seem more than happy with Mehmet.

Sharp is a promising keeper but at the stage where he needs to be playing. Not sure who this benefits if it goes through other than us getting a wage off the books.

Our backup keeper Max Little looks to be wanting regular game time this season, so we'll need another backup too. Suits the clubs, whether it's Sharp's best option remains to be seen I guess.

If a Pars player had made that challenge and got sent off I’d have thought “silly boy” and had no complaints. Would be delighted to see plenty of those tackles dished out now we’ve established it’s only a yellow card offence.

I mean McCann pretty much did the same thing later on and most pars fans cheered it given the context.

  10. Encouraging performance, in spite of the scoreline/result. Think 2-0 flatters Killie massively, gifted them the first, 2nd was a great strike though.

Otherwise, have to be happy with how we accounted for ourselves. Gutted Tod didn’t get his goal, keeper made a quality save for that shot (otherwise thought their keeper was quite poor though, indecisive and poor distribution).

Not sure what our chances of progression will be now, but don’t care all too much, if I had to choose between that and getting everyone else into the season fit and healthy I’ll take the latter.

If what Dunfermline fans are saying is true then I do worry about not just Ross but some other players as apparently Annan were quite 'industrial' shall we say. Crocked their golden boy last night.

To be fair, Todd went over awkwardly on his ankle, not 100% how much outside influence there was on the resulting injury as I didn't get a good look at it.

They did put a number of heavy challenges in on the night though, left ones on quite a few others which look ok but could have gone worse. I'd be wary if I were you.

I’m the opposite, I much prefer him at DM over CB and I’d include today in that

I'm the same, his passing can be iffy and naive but he does some really positive driving runs and can be an excellent ball winner when he's on it. We completely fell out of the midfield when he went to CB as Allan and Chalmers don't have the same physical presence or instinct to break up the play.

  13. Good entertaining 1st half. Disappointed to concede but good run and finish from both McCann and Easton. Well in this game, and was a bit concerned with the signings Raith had made that we would struggle a bit.

Half expect us to fall away a bit later in the 2nd half when subs need to get made and the lightness of our squad starts to show. At this stage of the season with time to bolster though, quite happy with what I’ve seen.

Obviously El-Bakhtaoui left that summer and took a very different path to the Championship but I'd say he's also a great example of how it doesn't always work out at this level

Still irks me that went how it did, we signed a lot of bodies and played a totally different style of football in the Champ. El-Bak went to Dundee and played a graveyard shift every game in the premiership, and effectively destroyed his development. He was never the same or in a team that suited him again, including when he came back. Often wonder what might have been if we'd have been able to hold that side together a bit more. Your initial write up is an excellent read btw.

As for my predictions, boring and otherwise quite uninformed. Utd will almost undoubtedly win the league, possibly at a canter, possibly under more stress than necessary, but absolutely 1st. Everything else is a bit of a free-for-all.
Dunfermline good for mid-table I reckon, although KRH out for the first 2 1/2-3 months will have an impact I'm sure.

I'm just not "getting" this game yet? What is wrong with me?

Nothing at all, I'm sure come kick off I'll be keen for it but these group stage games are always kinda low key. The only one I remember being genuinely hyped for was the away game at Tynecastle when we knocked out Ian Cathro's Hearts.

The 4 league fixtures I'm sure will have a great atmosphere and build up, but today was never quite going to hit that mark.

I have no objection to relaxing some of the rules in friendlies as already happens eg in the number of subs allowed. Even friendlies are learning opportunities for players and if they see that mistake go unpunished in the friendly, they might do so it in a competitive game with a different outcome?

Not if the ref makes it clear they are fortunate, which they would and should do in event of a 'yellow and a sub' situation I described.
I think it's probably the correct decision, but the reason people are complaining isn't solely because of the suspensions later. It's because it looks like a bit of a harsh-but-fair one.

For that to get given in a friendly stings a bit.
