Strange/Funny Fitba Team names.

Was that the same league that Henhousemanure and Hamilton Lackadaisicals played in? -
Visited Myanmar in 2016. Military was surprisingly inconspicuous; indeed, outside of Yangon, practically invisible. Tour guides and hotel staff generally agreed that "The Lady", as they referred to Aung San Suu Kyi, was the best thing that ever happened to the country. It was a guided tour, so they took you to the places they wanted you to see, but if that meant going through the poor side of town, so be it. The poverty couldn't be hidden. Shwedagon Pagoda, although touristy, was fascinating for all that. Outside of Yangon, also visited Bagan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the 2000+ 11th - 13th Century temples and pagodas that litter the countryside, and Inle Lake, which is a bit like Loch Lomond on steroids. Houses are built on stilts in the shallow water, crops grown in floating gardens, and larger buildings like schools built on man made islands. Other place I want to mention is Gambia. I know, package tours direct from the UK and all that so it's not weird or off the beaten track. But when I went in 2005, by sheer coincidence, the African Under-17 Championship Finals were on. The night I arrived, I saw two group games, Burkina Faso v Ghana and Gambia v Mali, which the hosts won 3-2 in front of an exuberant capacity crowd. Following day, I bumped into one of the South African squad who for some weird and wonderful reason was wearing a Scotland strip. Gambia went on to win the title, the only thing one of their international teams has ever achieved at any level of the game.

Whoops... I posted this one in the other topic. This was actually Albion Rovers home leg, first leg was at Firs Park.

League Cup, 1st round 1979-80, The Shire v Albion Rovers. 1-1 first leg at Firs Park, 0-0 second leg at Clifftonhill after 90 mins. Ref goes straight to penalties which Shire won 9-8. However, the ref had been given incorrect advice when he phoned the Scottish League (I know, who could believe it?) to check if extra time should be played, being told no when it should have been yes. Second leg replayed a week later, Rovers won 4-1, and Shire missed out on a 2nd round clash with Partick Thistle.

It was an utterly ludicrous result even then. Shire were 2nd at the time and IIRC, Selkirk were bottom. Might even have been their first win.

As I remember it, we had a decent penalty claim turned down by the German referee. The Georgia manager was also German. Not that I'm being cynical....
-
France finished the group two points ahead of us so a draw wouldn't have helped.

I joined a couple of organised walking groups recently, to get myself off my backside and out for some exercise during/after the lockdown restrictions. On my latest jaunt, I got talking to a 40-ish year old Aussie who came up with the most outlandish Covid conspiracy I've heard yet. According to him, the FBI/CIA/MI6/Mossad etc discovered a huge terrorist plot. In order to foil it, they decided they had to put an immediate stop to all international travel. How to do this without causing world wide panic? Easy... invent a global pandemic! So there is actually no C-19, nobody has died. It's all a cover story to foil those pesky terrorists.

Both teams agreed it made more sense to play the game in Dundee rather than drag both sets of fans down to Hampden and not even half fill it. Dundee won toss of coin for venue. -

For The Shire, I can think of Ian Crawford, Dan McLindon, Bobby McCulley, Billy Little and Derek Ure off the top of my head. -
Was never a penalty!

"The problem is that when the pyramid was started, the juniors weren't involved." Entirely at their own choice.

Don't we all
-
Any team on a long, winless run only ever had to wait for a game against the Shire to change things...

In the bottom league is fine, if that's bottom league of the pyramid for the appropriate area, ie in the OF case, WOS conferences. Not if it's bottom league of the SPFL which means they are jumping the queue ahead of other teams who have more right to be there.
